Sweet Sixteen (2002)
Companion Piece
This film is eerily similar to another movie, set & shot half-way around the globe. Check out, "Once Were Warriors", a New Zealand production that addresses many of the same issues. "Once Were Warriors" is about an inner-city Maori family that's forced to deal with the exact same social issues, such as impoverishment, dysfunction, violence, all of it. Jake, one of the lead characters in, "Once Were Warriors", resembles the, "Sweet Sixteen", character, Liam, in that both these guys will stop at absolutely nothing to see their agendas through. Jake, like Liam, charges into situations to get things finished, come hell or high water. They both eventually lose out, because they went entirely too far. Like "Sweet Sixteen", "Once Were Warriors" isn't a sweet, heart-warming family movie! Still, it's well-made & definitely worth seeing.
Redboy 13 (1997)
Unique & entertaining.
Novel idea--taking a promising JROTC member & preparing him for covert ops. Who'd suspect an appealing, supposedly lost & scared teenager is actually a highly-trained assassin? When it comes down to it, Redboy 13 looks like, (and for most intents & purposes) is, the "boy next door". Little did the bad guys know that the cute, skinny kid had an arsenal in his baggy pants, and knew how to use all of it! Redboy (whose code-name came mostly from the color of his hair, which I'd more likely classify as auburn than red), almost blows his cover when a real mini-Uzi gets mixed up with his usual kids' collection of water pistols!

The Boys in Blue (1983)
Bumbling Cops, a la Clouseau
I saw this not long after it was released, and I was already a fan of the early 80's TV show. The film involves two police officers, long-time friends, who are in charge of keeping the peace in a sleepy seaside town, Little Botham, that ordinarily is peaceful enough on its own. While one (Tommy Cannon), is a by-the-book true copper, the other (Bobby Ball), prefers moonlighting at the local petrol station/convenience store (he sees police work as his sideline to primarily being shopkeeper). When a mysterious new-comer takes up residence on a farm (replete with barn) in Little Botham, soon after a string of high-profile art heists, Cannon & Ball's rusty cop gears start turning. They'll stop at absolutely nothing to crack the case!
