Monster in the Shadows (2021)
Detective is a complete idiot.
The media does not fare much better. Especially this talking head they chose to include? I hope they chose to interview him as an example of what NOT to do. Total scumbag. However, no one is as bad as the detective. How did this green, inept, and barely-out-of-training-wheels "cop" get a case of such magnitude? All you need to do is listen to this loser talk for two minutes and you know he's not qualified to manage a Burger King, let alone lead a missing persons investigation. The investigators, media, and social media trolls should feel NOTHING but deep shame and feelings of inadequacy, because they are trash.
Saints Row (2022)
It's not THAT BAD...
It's just not that good, either. My score would actually be closer to a 6, but I experienced severe bugs that made completing the campaign almost impossible. This hot mess is lucky she's not getting a 4, but I can't rate it that low because I DID have some fun. Turns out being able to aim down sights and access your weapon-wheel are pretty essential for bombastic comedy violence. When it works, I enjoyed the shallow gameplay because it's exactly the same as SR3&4's, warts and all. I'll revist to clean up the side missions after a couple stability patches. In it's current state, it's a mild chore to power through.
Pharma Bro (2021)
Brent Hodge is a garbage apologist.
Shallow and incompetent. Brent, you may be saying technically negative things about this DB, but you're just another cheerleader giving MS exactly what he wants. Billy the Fridge, you're also trash.
Relentless (2021)
Fontana, YOU ARE MAKING EVERYTHING WORSE.
Step. Away. You are actively causing harm. This is an obsession and you are putting yourself and your subjects in danger. This is not about you and every episode where the only thing accomplished is wasting time (in the most emotionally manipulative way possible) makes anyone with some distance and objectivity furious. You are not helping.
Undercover Underage (2021)
Voyeuristic trash.
No matter how you look at it, this is media that profits off of sexual abuse and exploitation. I don't care that it takes a hard-line, black and white stance against sex abuse. This is an attention-seeking vanity project. If you want to help, ACTUALLY HELP. Volunteer to man hotlines for victims of trafficking. Do community outreach. When you support garbage like this, you're just putting money into this woman's and Discovery's pocket, while supporting a project that an equal number of offenders consume, not just those with morbid curiosity who think they're helping. You're not. True crime media is problematic, in general, with this niche subgenre being the most problematic, with the most potential for harm.
The Karma Killings (2016)
Racist, apologist TRASH.
This is propaganda trash that excuse the actions of the wealthy and demonize the poor who are born into a low social status that they can never escape because Hinduism love their inequality granted by God. You think racism is bad in the West? It is, it is LEARNED behavior. It's not as baked into the very culture and religious practices and can be un-learned in a lot of cases. India has a rich a vibrant culture but may as well be in the Stone Age when it comes to class and race warfare that people excuse with their extremists spiritual beliefs. I'm hesitant to blame the people for being influenced by this culture. Obviously it is. This makers of this POS documentary have no excuse for how they explain away the behaviors of this wealthy psychopath and diagnose his live-in domestic help with every deviant paraphilia to ever exist. The people who made this "documentary" are just as bad as the CBI and everyone law enforcement agency who enabled the criminal who actually facilitated these crimes. DO NOT WATCH THIS. The horrifically, tastelessly named "Cannibal Killer" is less offensive and has more journalistic integrity than The Karma Killings. If you watch and enable this trash propaganda, YOU are part of the problem.
On the Case with Paula Zahn (2009)
S-Tier ID gabage.
It's everything a tacky murder show should be. Paula dominates every interview by asking really long, yes or no questions and never letting anyone get a word in. She's still amazing, though and has worked hard to be where she is now and and no one will outclass her. Diane Dimond? Hard pass, since I have 8000 episodes of this show with Paula! Drinking game: take a shot every time an old, white cop says something like "well, this girl didn't deserve to be horrifically murdered, she went to church!" I see, Officer, so am I to infer there are people who deserve it. Almost every sentence uttered by these detectives could be construed as "this is a safe, white community! These crimes belong in the city where all the non-whites prefer to hang out!" This sounds like I'm hating on the show and I'm really not. Virtually all ID shows fall victim to the same cliches: "she lit up a room," "we never locked our doors," "this overkill seems personal." And since the show has been on for 100 season, there's plenty of content if hearing about horrible murder helps put you to sleep, like it does for me.
Searching for Sheela (2021)
Vile.
Why does this documentary exist, Netflix? What was your thesis for glorifying a woman who, as far as I'm concerned, is a literal terrorist. If you loved Wild, Wild, Country...just go watch it again. There's at least some knowledge to be gained from that, even though I feel like it could have told it's story in two episodes. This is shorter than a single one of those episodes, yet somehow feels just as long.
Netflix, you've jumped the shark so hard with these true crime documentaries. Gone are the days of Making a Murderer, Don't F with Cats (super problematic, but still captivating) to garbage like this, the Elisa Lam documentary and The Night Stalker.
DON'T watch it. Don't give this garbage any numbers. Your quality of life will remain higher if you don't see this.
