Fargo: Bisquik (2024)
Juno Temple is fantastic!
I had a double-take when I thought it must be finished and realised thet there was another 15 minutes. After wrapping up the ranch seige and the 1 year anniversary, what could be left? Bad guys caught, tick, another nice character down (it has to be bitter-sweet in Fargo) evil step-mother shows her version of protective lioness/vengeful angel, life is good again, that must be it, right?
Of course, it was the story of the timeless wanderer/hit-man. Juno as Dot plays this beautifully, unexpectedly helping to free this ancient soul from the shackles of his past with forgiveness baked in a love biscuit.
I still shake my head when I remember she also played Keely in Ted Lasso!
Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (2020)
Sucked me right in
I had this on my list as a light, upbeat thing to watch at some point and, when I finally felt in the mood for that, I put it on. I am a bit of a closet musical fan and I enjoyed the concept of people expressing their inner emotions in big musical numbers. What I wasn't expecting was the touching story relating to the terminal illness of Zoey's father and the way the show expresses the emotions sadness, grief and hope (among many others) so effectively through song. I was immediately reminded of the illness and death of my own parents. By the end of the first episode I was a blubbering mess but ready for more. The show keeps you going with lots of quirky, funny, upbeat parts but doesn't let those get in the way of the deeper, more poignant moments. Best watched with a soul mate or good friend, cause you'll want to talk about it.
