SpongeBob SquarePants: Lights, Camera, Pants! (2005)
A fun, family-friendly game!
Playing this game was my idea of a joke since the guy I was going to play it with wasn't a Spongebob fan. But the game turned out to be a blast! Since you can have up to four human players in the game it's excellent for parties, small groups of friends hanging out, or even a family game night! The highlight of this game is the partnership required in half of the Spongebob mini games. Since you have to work with your team mate to win, there's an extra element of social fun involved in playing the game with company. The games are all unique in their design between one another and the lines recited by the characters as you win or lose make for a good laugh.
If you're a Spongebob fan, this game has the double bonus of keeping up with the TV show's bubbly humor. When playing through the story mode, every three games the character who wins plays a role in part of the Mermaid Man and Barnicle Boy movie. This means that there are six different characters who can win and play one of the ten roles in the game so it's fun to play over and over again just to see how the different characters react to the roles that they win! A must buy for any hard core Spongebob fan!
SpongeBob SquarePants (1999)
Excellent! until the fourth season...
I became a Spongebob fan when I couldn't find anything to watch and then stopped on this cartoon. The very first joke made me laugh and ever since I couldn't stop watching it. The humor is innovative and the characters are vivid while the jokes are possibly more entertaining to teenagers and adults than the younger audience the show is aimed for.
Seasons one through 3 (including the Spongebob Movie) are consistent with their excellence in comedy but in the fourth season the show takes a turn for the worst. I tried to figure out why the jokes weren't as good and why the Spongebob character wasn't funny anymore. At first I thought it was a different voice actor since Spongebob's voice had become higher pitched and squeaky. But then I noticed his character was no longer naive and optimistic but high-energized and annoying. Examining the credits, I noticed new names under "Writers" so I figure that maybe the new rookies aren't as familiar with the old Spongebob the way that the fans are.
Hopefully it's only a matter of time before the newbies in the writing department tune into the classic humor that was in the older Spongebob episodes. =)
