Terrifier 2 (2022)
Did Rob Zombie make this?
I feel terrible giving this a bad rating, I loved the first film and there was a good portion of this movie that was just as fun or better. However, this is a slasher movie. They should run about 90 minutes. This ran well over two hours and it was mainly due to a bunch of unnecessary symbolism and half baked lore. Look, I get adding lore. It's needed for a franchise, but everything they added left major plot holes or raised questions. The movie really got away from itself for about fifty minutes and went down a rabbit hole of bad storytelling. I honestly felt at a point I was watching Rob Zombies Halloween 2 because of how much of a mess this movie became.
Demonic Christmas Tree (2022)
So much potential wasted
Obviously if you're going to go the route of a slapstick type killer on the loose, you need to know your film is a comedy. This clearly doesn't. Not a single joke in the film. Unless if you count them using the Star of David instead of a pentagon as a joke, but I'm pretty sure that was just a production error. This could've been an instant cult classic like Jack Frost, heck, all they really need to do is re-record the voice over of the tree and make him funny. Like if the tree were to strangle someone with lights have the tree say "lighten up" or if the tree kills a barking dog say "all bark, no bite" or if the tree kills a topless girl with his roots or whatever, have him say "got wood?"
It's really not hard to make this concept worth watching. And it wouldn't cost too much to redo the ADR and make some cash.
The Problem with Apu (2017)
The real problem with Apu
Apu was created before Indians were really on TV.
While some say the original idea of the character was problematic because he fit a common stereotype, the show made him a conduit for new information like Hinduism, Buddhism, Vegan, arranged marriages, and more. Honestly not sure I would've learned half of this if not for Apu being on TV.
Don't think I'll ever understand how it's okay for all these other stereotypical characters to be voiced by people of a different heritage but some how a line is drawn at Apu.
I'm glad in 2022 there's more outrage about an Italian character not having an Italian accent than there is about the actor not being Italian.
Losing Apu over this kinda sucks for everyone and I'm sure the next generation will grow up less informed because of it.
