Sullivan's Crossing (2023)
Just started watching season 2
We didn't see season one so picking this up in season 2 is tough. So far so good. We are piecing things together. The actors are great. The characters are great too. It looks like the story is going to get complicated but that is a good thing. I like the bright filming which these days is hard to come by. Most of today's shows seem to be done in the dark. I appreciate also that there is not a lot of background noise and music to interfere with the dialog. The quality of the production is so important to me. Directors these days seem blind to the dreary lighting and deaf to all the background noise. This show is doing that right at least.
Well I spoke too soon. The latest episode, Confessions, had too much noise and background music during the storm . The storm noises were bad enough without adding senseless music. It really spoiled the ending.
The Woman in the Window (2021)
Not a great film
Again another modern movie where the director does not want any lights around. This movie is too dark and it does not need to be. It is so dark you can barely discern any colour. The story is ok but barely plausible. I was hoping for so much more. I won't recommend this movie to anyone. The ending was not very exciting since I chose to read some info on a new car while the final scene was going on. Boring movie in reality. Why are directors these days so intent on making movies in the dark? Amy Adams was ok but even she was not able to pull this movie up to any kind of good standard. Hard to find enough to say about this poor movie.
Tracker (2024)
Good show with too much background noise
Just started watching the new series. I find the story good. The story seems to be plausible. Certainly Justin Hartley is the perfect actor for the series. The show is different and I hope it is a success. I plan to continue watching but I do have one complaint that is a potential show dropper for me. The show has too much background music, noise actually. It interferes with the dialog and adds not one bit to the program. Noisy background has killed some other programs for me along with dark filming. Tracker is bright enough at least but the background noise has to go. The noise is unnecessary. Please fix this.
Titanic (1997)
So over rated
I really cannot understand all the positive hype this movie receives. The cast is ok except for DiCaprio. He is just terrible in this movie. His script is horrible. The rest of the cast is ok but certainly not as good as the 1996 TV mini series. This movie has only one story line that the plot centres on whereas the TV mini series has a few well developed characters and story lines.
I don't understand why all the focus is put on the theatre movie. I am sure that probably more people actually saw the TV series. It was free to watch. You did not need to leave your house to see it.
It is another example for me as to how off the wall the critics are with their ratings.
Beef (2023)
So bad
I have come to realize that if a movie or TV show has plenty of swearing then it will get great reviews. I watched the first episode for about 15 minutes.
Why is this series getting such good reviews? Who decides the Emmy ratings for these shows?
The beauty about watching TV programs and movies on TV is that you can turn them off when they go bad and you haven't wasted any money going to the theatre. This series didn't last very long. My wife and I don't have money or time to waste. We saved time and money on this one. I don't recommend this series and it is an indication of how off the wall critics are.
Drive (2011)
The first half hour was ok
After the first half hour the movie just goes down the tubes. The plot makes no sense and is impossible to understand. The story would have been great if the writer had just kept it simple.
I am glad I never wasted money to go see this in a theatre. Thankfully I can just turn it off. There is excessive violence.
The movie is so bad that I find it hard to find anything good to say about it. It is so bad too that I find it hard to get up to the required characters.
I guess you could say that this movie is about double crossers and don't trust anybody. Even the ones that appear to be good are very bad.
Monsieur Spade (2024)
Nothing else to watch
I was hoping for better. It isn't great but I'll stick with it. The plot is slowly developing. It makes no sense yet. I think I may be watching just to see the vintage cars at this point. The background music is annoying. Clive Owen is doing ok but the actor that plays Teresa is a bright star for sure. At least I am picking up a little French here and there. I have lost a lot since being away from Quebec for over fifty years. I certainly hope some sense is made out of the plot soon. It is growing weary. I agree with most of the other comments on here so there is very little new to add to the comparisons with the original Sam Spade and Bogart.
Secrets at the Inn (2022)
Not bad, not great.
This movie is ok. The story is plausible. Tamara Almeida is very good. There are two things about the movie that are annoying. One is the incessant background noise. Sometimes it is music that I suppose is meant to create suspense but does not and then there is just plan noise. Both the noise and the music just interferes with the dialog. Why do directors keep doing that? Don't they realize that it isn't helpful? The other problem is the dull filming. Almost all the scenes are dark and dingy. Why bot brighten up the indoor and outdoor scenes? Again the dull filming doesn't make for more suspense.
All the Light We Cannot See (2023)
Had hoped for better
Generally I enjoy WW2 resistance and spy stories so I was hoping this would be a good series. I was disappointed because this is another modern film. Why do productions these days have to be filmed in the dark. This has dreary filming. I want colour not washed out filming. Certainly there is no light to see. The start is so depressing that I did not want to continue watching. I turned it off after about 15 minutes. Perhaps the story and the characters might have been ok but I didn't care. Why are directors and producers these days so intent on making dreary movies? If they think dreary and dark filming adds to the suspense they are certainly wrong.
