Difficult to understand the 10/10 scores
18 September 2022
Finding it difficult to think of the words to use to review this movie.

Acting 9/10

Top notch performances from everyone involved. Yeoh in particular is magnificent. Great to see 'Shorty' make a major flick comeback

Plot 5/10

People seem to think it's hugely original but if you think about it, it's got loads ripped off from The Matrix. Some funny parts and an interesting concept but too slow, mainly due to the huge over use of slow motion effects

Entertainment 5/10

Some entertaining parts with nice choreography and fight scenes but it felt way too long and started to drag near the end

Cinematography 10/10

Some truly beautiful scenes and very well made

Characters 6/10

Lead and her husband are great. Her dad is great too. Daughter rather annoying.

Effects 10/10

Superb. Top notch, especially during a time of some diabolical CGI being used in media.

Dialogue 7/10

Great mix of the two languages. Some truly mental dialogue at times.

Longevity 3/10

I won't be watching it again. I feel like it won't be a long lasting classic that people talk about in the future.

Music 2/10

Actually pretty poor. Quite annoying and frustrating at times. Hurt my brain.

Flow/Pace 3/10

Far too slow and really dragged towards the end. Too much slow motion used.

Overall average 6/10.

Not bad
28 August 2022
Reading some of the other reviews I watched this with low expectations. I found it enjoyable but there are some annoying moments. I don't want to go into them as people can make their own minds up. Does it have the quality and engrossing nature of the majority of the marvel films? No. Is it entertaining? Yes.

Acting is good. Effects decent enough. Music is not really noticeable. Nice concept. Good use of comedy but contrary to what a lot of people say it isn't all about the comedy. You can definitely tell that it is largely a female crew that have worked on it but that isn't a negative, it just means I feel the audience is definitely geared towards female rather than male.

Better than expected
11 July 2022
Watched it just for a laugh to be honest. But it's actually decent. Had die hard vibes about it. A bit better production value and could've been really good.

Awful music. Some poor characters
1 May 2022
The music is awful. Hard not to notice it all the way through.

The young girls are annoying characters that don't communicate how real people would.

Fixing these two things would greatly help the movie which had great potential.

Disappointing

Warning: Spoilers
His jail break was very disappointing. It felt unnecessary and forced. And also really changed the tone for the character and how he had been during the season. To suddenly turn the audience against him just felt strange to me. I feel like so many producers and writers are trying to be different and too clever and in doing so are falling flat.

If you want to remove him in this way then fine but don't turn the audience against him first. And also miss out on an opportunity for the reunion with Angel.

Great Sci-Fi
2 July 2021
Little twist on a combination of many things before like Edge of Tomorrow, Battle Los Angeles, The Thing. Not perfect but great fun and incredible that something of this scale is direct to streaming to be honest!

Quite Good but frustrating
13 April 2021
Good show with some gripping and interesting storylines. However I can't tell if it's realistic or not but the overreaction shown by every character to every situation can be frustrating. Everything is a massive drama with their first world problems. While it's also a bit predictable it's still enjoyable.

Third best Terminator
3 November 2019
Let's face it, the original film and the somehow superior sequel were never going to be bettered. It's seldom a sequel is better than it's predecessor and since it happened once in the franchise, it was unlikely to happen again.

That said, this movie had a refreshing take on the storyline. It kept me interested with the way the timeline has been affected by the actions of the first movies. The new protagonist called Grace was excellent, and the formidable enemy was superb aswell. It features an interesting set of new abilities for the terminator machine, and for the time fighting hero Grace. Sarah Connor was superb, and Arnie packs his usual punch.

I get why some people might feel frustrated by the unfolding of events for John Connor but there's not much else they could have done to give a fresh take. Overall this is an excellent action sci-fi movie and a suitable finale for the franchise.

Doomsday (I) (2008)

Can't make its mind up what it want's to be!!
3 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This movie starts off really well, and had me quite gripped for the first half. The second half has quite a few flaws in my opinion. I would describe this movie as a blend of Mad Max, 28 Days later and Dog Soldiers. The problem is i don't think the second half of the movie could decide what it was. It drifts from serious to the down-right silly. Dog Soldiers was thoroughly entertaining for what it was, but it was supposed to be humorous and not taken seriously. This movie starts serious, with a viral epidemic wiping out the whole of Scotland, and re-emerging to threaten the downfall of England. Millions dead from horrific and violent deaths. It continues in a similar fashion, for most of the movie. It has an interesting look into society of the future, and what it could be like if people were left with no laws or functional government. Very much like Mad Max. However some parts were just a bit strange, like the dancing on the stage before the cannibal feast? Was this supposed to be ridiculous? Then it goes back to relatively serious again, until a knight rides in on a horse, with a lance?? WTF!!?? There are two different societies that have been formed. However, usually one would expect that one group would be harmless and non-violent, and the other more criminalised. In this case, both groups are violent and primitive. The other group seem more ridiculous and unbelievable though, with their living area looking more like the set from Braveheart. This is the start of the downfall for me. A daring escape follows from here which is quite good, until they happen to stumble across a Bentley sports car in a container. Maybe it was left for someone important to escape in during all of the research into a cure for the virus, but it isn't really explained. The mad max car chase which follows is very entertaining and enjoyable until the most ridiculous thing happened which in my opinion took it too far and ruining the movie. Real music was brought into the film which moved away from the darker background score used for the rest of the film. And quite possibly the worst song that could've been chosen, Two Tribes go to war by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. It made a complete laughing stock of the film and pushed it more and more towards comedy than horror-action. If it had made up its mind to go one way or the other it could have been great. For example, it should have left out the stupid music that made me cringe, and left out some of the weird dancing on the stage. Mad max was a cult classic series, that cannot really be re-created. It shouldve tried to stay more original. In summary, first half great, second half was just silly.

Babylon A.D. (2008)

Interesting and enjoyable, but confusing. Has it been cut too much?
22 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This movie started off great. A dark vision of the future, with an exciting look at new technologies, and an interesting look into what the world could become. It began to build on the characters quite well, but it felt a little rushed, possibly due to the short length of the movie (come back to this in a moment.) Vin Diesel plays a hard man mercenary who is given the task of transporting a girl from Russia to the USA. Again though, it seems a little easy to get there, almost as though half the trip is missing as cuts on the directors floor. Diesel does a good job at portraying his character and has good enough chemistry with the other characters. The girl played by Melanie Thierry is beautiful and enticing. Michelle Yeoh is well cast as her mother/guardian. The relationships could have been built on a lot more if the movie was longer. The action scenes are good, but some parts are not explained fully. The movie had me hooked for a great part of it, but towards the end it became more and more confusing, and the end was rushed and inconclusive. I do not know who was to blame for the editing/cutting of material but it was not a job well done. I know personally that Chronicles of Riddick, Daredevil, Lord of the Rings, Terminator 2 and many others were far, far better movies when the directors cut/extended editions were released. A lot of the confusing parts of the movies were explained, and you can relate to the characters more. I hope that a longer version is released on DVD to give it a more fair review. It shows great promise. I've heard that the French release was a lot longer, and that there is a 2 and a half hour cut of the movie somewhere. Perhaps that will complete what i feel is an incomplete and unfinished movie. There is far too much to show in 84 mins of the US cut.

Good fun, if you don't take it serious
22 October 2008
Good entertainment. A bit annoying in parts. I did not like the son in it, and he looks really old. Brendan Frasier and the actor who plays the son do not look much different in age, and the mother looks the same age as him!!! Bad casting really as it quite unbelievable that they are a real family. Jet Li rescues it as a great villain. The special effects are pretty good, except the Yetis, which look about as realistic as Jermaine Pennant ever scoring for Liverpool again. Anyway, if its action, adventure and easy going entertainment then it hits the spot quite well. If you don't take your movies so seriously like so many people do these days, you will enjoy it. Worth a watch if you're bored.

Truly, truly terrible
19 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
The first film was very original, and entertaining. Granted it was quite cheesy in parts, but it was the first time i had seen anything like it. The second film was a huge let down, but was still maybe a 3 or 4 out of 10. This film is so terrible its unreal. It starts off not too bad, but then a military officer get beaten up by a farmer (like that would happen), and the whole plot just gets more and more ridiculous. The whole religious sub-plot is so bad its comical. Why did Casper Van Dien sign up for this but not the second one? The end of the movie with the giant robot suits is one of the most cringe worthy scenes ever. The only good thing in this movie is Jolene Blalock from Enterprise. She acts superbly especially given such a pathetic script.

It's nothing like the Matrix, but it's good
1 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I don't understand why people are saying its like the Matrix? Its really not. The movie has similar special effects to the Matrix series, but then so do many other films these days. There is nothing about computers, machines or the end of the world in this. It vaguely mentions something about focusing adrenaline to slow things down, which is kind of similar. The main thing is that people i know that hated the Matrix and think it is geeky, actually really like this movie. It had some very original ideas and effects. I think it was still slightly odd and had some parts were i was wondering where did that idea come from? It was a good directorial debut outside of Russia for this guy. I saw the Night watch and Day watch movies which were also good, but slightly confusing in parts. As for the Matrix, the first one is outstanding and groundbreaking in so many ways, and this film shouldn't be compared on the same sort of level. It is a very good, entertaining movie though, which is well worth checking out. I give it 8 as it has good acting, action and effects, soundtrack, and some excellent original ideas.

This film is at least a 6!
11 June 2008
I really don't know how people can be so harsh. The movie is entertaining, and good fun for most of it. Nearly all of the actors in it are good, and well known. The CGI is very impressive and i was surprised. The fight scenes are good and fun to watch. I actually enjoyed it.

Things that let it down are: 1) Matthew Lillard is a joke - he really cant act, and makes you cringe when he speaks its so bad. 2) A terrible music score - people talk about how music can make a movie - imagine Jaws without the theme, and Halloween without the tense music!! Well the music is so bad in this film it spoils it. I wonder how well it would have done with Hans Zimmer or the late John Williams behind the music 3) Nothing particularly new in the story, very similar to parts of LOTR and Eragon

Overall i liked it, and people who gave it such bad scores must not be into this sort of genre, or are being too picky, as its an enjoyable movie to watch.

The Mist (2007)
6/10
This movie is yet another reflection of how bad CGI can ruin something special!
10 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
The acting is good, the intensity is good. The characters and the relation to them is excellent. The story is very good, and the ending is very original. The biggest downfall, which is very common these days is the bad use of CGI. Where suspense and horror could have been created by "not showing" what was in the mist would have been better in parts. For example, where aliens are shown amongst the mist, it is more scary and intense. If it was absolutely necessary to make some aliens completely visible, which i don't believe it was, then they could have used old fashioned creature effects or simply better CGI. The worst was the tentacles scene which made me laugh out loud. It was truly awful. Before that, i took this movie seriously. After it i couldn't help but notice the bad CGI. If that scene had had the guy pulled out into the mist by something unseen it would have been better. I really though progress had been made with CGI, note its excellent use in Transformers, but this really was poor! How can a film be scary with such fake looking monsters like that!! It reminded me of Dreamcatcher, which i thought had an intriguing and gripping storyline until the ridiculously pathetic CGI came into it. Please somebody stop the excessive use of CGI, its ruining our movies more than the excessive releases of identical ROMCOM movie plots

Transformers (2007)

Any bad reviews ignore them
5 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I give this a 9, because as an avid transformers fan, that grew up with the toys and the cartoons, i was always going to be a tad disappointed, just as i was with all the spider-man films, and HULK(what happened there?) I felt it could have had more action in it based around the transformers themselves. Aside from that, i think its an outstanding movie. Exceleent soundtrack and score, crystal clear sound effects and visuals, and a superb cast. This movie features action, adventure, comedy and romance. I could watch it again, and again, and again! This is a far better movie than the sequel, and hopefully the 3rd installment will bring the series back to being outstanding.
