The Dark Knight (2008)
Somewhere in America, we have lost the sense of what a good movie is....
C'mon, folks.
If Heath Ledger wins an Oscar for his performance, then the Academy has lost all sense of judgment.
What film full of that kind of horror gets a PG 13 rating??? I have read most of the comments on this side of the balance and must concur with all that I have read. I just saw the movie ....just to see it for myself. And I wish that I had my money and time back. Too long...too gory...too much of everything negative. Did DC Comics intend for Batman to be portrayed in such a manner??? I think not.
I really think something in wrong here in America.....when films like this get 9/10 stars.
Over Her Dead Body (2008)
This just plain sucks....
You have got to be kidding. I cannot believe that Eva agreed to do a film like this. I know that there is a need for money but some people need to really make sure that the choices of films they act in are worthy. And the title tells it all. There is too much silliness, too much overacting and repetitive lines. The entire plot is something for a child to watch. Even the movie Jack frost was more worthy than this one. Eva need to stick to and improve on Desperate Housewives. I hope that this isn't a trend amongst the actresses from DH...because if it is, we are surely in for horrible summer.
This is a no brainer. Save your money and your time for something worthwhile.
I Am Legend (2007)
I am walking....
away from any more Will Smith science fiction movies and I walked out of this one. When the mutants/vampires/zombies/whatever the hell you call 'em things came out of the library and injured both the dog and Robert (after he was left hanging upside down for all that time) i had it. And I am too freaking old for stupid crap to be jumping out at me on the screen. The unrealistic zombie crap? Awww come on. I couldn't stand it then and I can't stand it now. My daughter and her friend stayed and then proceeded to tell me the rest of the movie when she got home an hour later. I had to stop her from telling me anymore. And I am glad that I walked out. No more Will Smith science fiction for me. I liked Hitch and the combo of him and Tommy Lee Jones in MIB, but this crap was just dumb.
Norbit (2007)
Hmmm.......i'd rather see Eddie in something better....
I don't know.....i just left the theater saying, "I probably will not come or choose to see this again." matter of fact, I changed my vote to a three. Eddie's ability to play other characters of other races is awesome. But some of the slap stick was something for kids; not adults.
One scene in particular was not funny. I will not spoil it on this venue. But there were some scenes that were disturbing, yet the audience roared with laughter. Eddie Griffin and Katt Williams are truly a trip. They seem like they are old characters from the early 1970s. THey would've been wonderful in that genre. Thandie Newton is still one of the prettiest women in movies today. She should have more roles.
But i will not give another penny to this film. Eddie needs to go back to stand up comedy for a bit. He was so damned funny.
Stomp the Yard (2007)
Its About Time....
that African American men are shown in a positive light. When is the last time African American youth have been depicted on the theater screen in a college setting?? Its been awhile...ever since Drumline.
We need more films like this. Glad I went along with my teen aged sons and daughterm who is in collge as we speak. Was certainly also surprised to see such a mix of races in the theater that I viewed this film. It shows me that hip-hop culture is certainly more than just a "black" thing.
I don't know of if those in the IMDb will ever give this movie a chance. Most movies that depict young African American men in a positive light tends to be either laughed off as far fetched. There are certainly men and women in the IMDb who have never even approached a person of color who is college educated. Most of what the IMDb have seen is what the media wants them to believe; that most African American men are in jail or dead. It would be surprising what this film is rated and the comments that are given.
