Hulk (2003)
Superhero movie unlike any others
Director Ang Lee delivers the traditional comic superhero onto big screen with a whole new approach. Instead of just dumping in tons of mindless action and stupid emotion twists into the movie like other ones (Batman, X-men, Spiderman), we see someone who's more realistic to a real human in the real world. The fear and the emotion in the movie is just so engaging, and the action scenes are superb. CG is good from ILM, music is good too. I like how Ang Lee plays the presentation of the segments on the screen, that's really some refreshing view. I gave it 9/10, recommend for people who has some longer attention span and expect to see something that has more sense than mindless actions. If you love spiderman then you probably won't enjoy this movie, but it is good, maybe just not what you want it to be (with mindless actions again).
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
OK sequel....
The action scenes are better nonetheless, but it offers nothing new or innovative compare to the first one. It's quite interesting that the missing plots are filled in by the Enter the Matrix game (how I just have commercialize movies like these...). Anyhow, I gave it 8/10.
Lu bing hua (1989)
A classic that is so pure and innocent.
I remember seeing it when I was in elementary school, and it remains to be one of my favorite movies (and YES, i'm a Star Wars fan too, so here is a dose of reality that I'm not some sort of weird person :p).
The reason I post this comment today is that I just saw a rerun on TV, and since it's on IMDB, I'm here to comment on it.
Genius. What's a genius? Do we see a genius naturally, or do we admit that someone is a genius AFTER he's been "proven" to be one? A 4th grade young boy from a poor family loves to draw, and he is talented. His drawing is so imaginative and colorful, that we "normal" people see it as "weirdness." So what do we do? Do we give him a chance, or do we simple ignore him? This's the core of the story.
Children are gifts. They see what we adults can't see, and we shouldn't use our narrowed vision to limit and restrict them. Freedom, purity, innocence are what they seek. I do think that everyone should find some plot in the movie that is related to your life, and I sincerely wish you learn the meaning, after viewing this great movie.
Sorry, only tiny English captions, that is, if you can find it. But trust me, it's a rewarding experience, indeed.
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
You can't get better than this!!
Just come back from the theatre, all i can say is WOW!!
Though i do agree that the dialogue is a bit lame, the non-digital project messes up the scenes sometimes, but SO WHAT!! This movie is GREAT, period.
Plot wise, a bit surprising but since i'm a SW fan, i know pretty much everything about it. Acting wise, it's not great but good.
NO ONE should be disappointed at this movie, because if you are, THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOU.
Upon closing mark, Phantom Menace was a good movie, the ONLY reason that some people dislike it, is because it's a STAR WARS. Take away your bias, and enjoy the Attack of the Clones!!
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Good but Hyped
First, I'd like to say that I have NOT read the novel, this is my views towards the movie ONLY.
The first half (1:30) of the movie is all about boring (interesting? not me) Hobbits life. Instead of focusing on important events with smooth transactions of others, this movie seems spending too much time on unimportant ones. I have NOT read the novel, but from what I've heard, it's sort like quest after quest, meeting interesting people, exploring new worlds, and goes on and on. I just don't see that in the movie.
Yes i do understand the director is trying to show that it's a long journey, however the National-Geographic-Explorer-type shooting of scenery needs to STOP after like 10 times. I'm annoyed after seeing it for 10 times, it's tiring. Not as much action as I'd like to see, but maybe that's true to the novel, which I haven't read. Not as true to the spirit of the internal struggle faced by the characters, I can't feel the emotion.
To conclude my words, this movie is good but it loses the fine point of balance. I wouldn't recommend people to see unless they are interested in the D&D setting. It is WAY TOO LONG, cut the first hour completely then I would feel better. I give it a 7/10 for such production but I believe I submit a 6 due to my fast itchy-trigger finger.
