The Night Agent (2023)
Abysmal
This is really poor, but unfortunately typical for a run of the mill, couldn't care less Netflix show. There are far too many episodes for the writers to be able to create and maintain a coherent plot. The acting is abysmal - totally wooden and unwatchable. Netflix could possibly stop producing so much rubbish and put a bit of effort into giving us one or two shows that are worth watching. It betrays a contempt for the critical judgment of its audience. I can't understand how any reviewer can give it even a hint of approval. If I could have given it zero I would have done. 1 out of ten is flattering.
The White Crow (2018)
Mind numbingly boring
Any interesting narrative that this movie might have had was removed by the wooden characters and constant changing time which perpetually destroyed the train of the story.
And such an interesting story it should have been. A wasted opportunity.
Prisoners (2013)
Gruesome and unwatchable
This was awful. I don't understand why anyone would undergo watching it all the way through.
Ford v Ferrari (2019)
Superficial, boring and condescending
A combination of boredom and farce. The slow predictable trawl of Iacocca round Italy; the ridiculous characterization of John Miles and the car races turned into demolition derbys; the complete disregard of co-drivers; the simplistic portrayal of Ferrari. The best thing you can do with this movie is switch it off and slip in a copy of Grand Prix which really captures 1960's motor sport.
Beecham House (2019)
Not a good start
Like Downton Abbey, set in India, with a very predictable 'Englishman saves India from the English (and the dastardly French)' in which the poor actors have to make do with dialogue that sounds like they are giving dictation. No development of the Indian characters - and precious little of the westerners, unless they really are so dull. One might have hoped for some delving into the problems of white colonialism. Maybe it will appear in later episodes but I don't have great hopes.
