Napoleon (2023)
The problem is Joaquin Phoenix himself.
The main issue in this movie is how predictable Joaquin Phoenix is in his play style, this actor is really not unlike Marlon Brando which many people view as a great actor but I view him the same as being very limited in range of acting.
Napoleon does not start well and does not go well throughout the movie being it is very dark, very emotionless, very detached, distant from emotions and the main energy comes from Joaquin Phoenix which is always way too dark and way too "Out there" when it comes to acting.
My very personal opinion is that this was the root of the failure of this movie, Joaquin Phoenix should have never been chosen for this role.
The Outpost (2019)
One sided view of the conflict.
It always takes the United States to create a war movie where the only views, the only glorification goes to one side and the other side is reduce to figures in the background.
Going from soldier to soldier, what they were doing during the movie you soon realize that what you are seeing is a movie that kind of tells the story in reverse, that is the United States is not actually invading a country but the Taliban are trying to invade them.
As always the word "insurgent" is used a lot to diminish the enemy, trying to take away the fact they have as much if not many times over more courage for fighting with the very basic gear and most of the time without nightvision and obviously with little to no intel and no air support and almost no heavy shelling support.
Yes, they are scumbags, the Talibans are just scums that think women are worthless but... it is up to each and every country to decide on their own what is right and what wrong, not up to us. And yes, they are SOLDIERS not insurgents, they are fighting a foreign invaders and they are not backing down which makes them heroes for their countries and very much in all rights soldiers of a real army.
Born Innocent (1974)
Unpolished Gem
I know at times people tend to either go full out on a 10/10 or a 2/10 for movies but, in trying to be fair and looking at this movie again many decades after seeing it for the first time. There's a definite deepness to this movie which was probably very low budget and the script wasn't too much on complexity but there is emotion in this movie that does reverberates inside if you let the movie creep inside of you as it may not be so obvious the first 20 minutes.
There's sadness, there's a low of raw emotions, there's truth, there's reality of a broken family, there's the violence and the abuse and the despair. I did bumped it from 6.4/10 to 8/10 for my own taste as I believe that rating is far too low for this unpolished gem.
