The Last Airbender (2010)
Ruined a great story
Had high hopes for this one, but it was apparent within the first few minutes when the title character's name was mispronounced that this was doomed to be an epic failure. They also changed the pronunciation of another of the major characters. M. Night Shyamalan totally missed the mark on this one. He thoroughly ripped away what was the very heart and essence of the show. What made it fun, was Aang was a fun loving, but reluctant hero, thrust into a role he never wanted. That was the charm in it. But Shyamalan, with Arnold Schwarzenegger type lines like, "I must stop them," missed the charm of the show. It was the fans of the original series that even made the show worthy of a movie in the first place, but M. Knight betrayed the fans by trying to put his own stamp on things. Don't bother with this one unless you're into disappointment.... Epic fail..!
The Prisoner of Zenda, Inc. (1996)
If you're bored...
Probably kind of silly reviewing a super old movie like this, but with the power out and nothing else to do I decided to watch it on my phone on YouTube. As the other reviewer said it's not that good but it's not the worst either. Couldn't decide if it was supposed to be a dramatic comedy or what? The three kidnappers were very mindful of the two bad guys in the Home Alone movies. Bumbling idiots. The storyline had some moments, but it was almost like a Disney film, in that it was very predictable. The worst part about it was whoever the director was. If that's all the better he can do. I hope that was the only filmy directed. William Shatner was in it, and it certainly wasn't his best work either, although a lot of that I attribute to the Director. Anyway, if it's a boring evening, with nothing else to watch on TV, you could give it a try if you're into this genre. And your kids might like it.

Still waiting....
This movie seemed to have so much potential. A coming of age story, yet it seemed like not much more than an average week of summer vacation. As other reviews have stated, nothing really happens. There was some typical, yet tame boy-like adventuring. Roaming the woods, building a camp of sorts, and just two buddies hanging out. But there was no plot, no real story. Then a sequence of other boys chasing them in the woods, where they split up and one boy was unexplainably missing for several scenes. All in all, the viewer is left waiting for something to happen, the payoff, the big surprise which never came. Disappointing.
Second Best (1994)
For man and boy; one is the loneliest number.........
If you have a sense of love within you, this movie is for you. There are few things as sad as loneliness. And few things as heart wrenching as seeing it overcome.
This film provides both. though it was not a huge success in the theater, (this film was gravely underrated), it is a wonderful story. A bond of trust and love between child and adult, forged in the pain and fear of emptiness. If you missed it in the theater, take the time to find it, and watch it at home.
I can only hope that a long awaited DVD release is near at hand. there are too many movies with 'created' story lines. This one is as real as it comes. If only there were more like it......
An Update... Here in 2012, this has still not been released on DVD. What a shame. I watched it on Laser Disc yesterday, and it is such a wonderful film. Someone missed the boat on the DVD release. Sad...
