Street Kings (2008)
7/10
Flawed but good movie.
12 April 2008
I wasn't expecting much from Street Kings, just to be entertained and that's what I got. Keanu Reeves played the part good, Hugh Laurie did exceptionally well, while the worst acting in the movie was from Chris Evans. Chris Evans was wooden and didn't seem to be able to act his way out of a glass box, during the argument in the locker room between him and Reeves I bit my tongue to keep from laughing as Reeves was actually doing a good job. The story was good, flawed and slow in places, but overall good. Sure the movie could've had a better cast but it doesn't and the only surprise here is that Chris Evans was worse than Keanu Reeves.

The Signal (2007)
2/10
Forget the hype for a forgettable movie!
22 February 2008
I read a review claiming that this was the greatest horror movie in years, the directors and creators were the next great horror movie makers. I read the review and got excited about seeing the movie, that was a mistake. The acting wasn't very good all around, except the woman playing Maya was very good, the only other standout was the guy who played Jim Parsons, he was good at acting even though his lines were the worst in the movie. Aside from these two actors the others were wooden and flat at best, next problem was glaring continuity errors. Maya's car changes from a manual transmission Honda Accord to an automatic transmission Acura, the reason for this being budgetary probably but come on! There are millions of accords in this country, thousands that are wrecked, annoying and sad. The story starts off promising in the first "Transmission" but degrade horribly in the second and third "Transmissions." The first half of the second "Transmission" is actually funny but it goes bad very quickly. Don't go expecting this to be a good movie, don't go in expecting this to be an even half-way decent horror movie. The Signal is a straight to DVD movie (that never should've been made) that is unfortunately being released to theaters, in that way only is The Signal scary or terrifying. Positive Points: Maya, Jim, sets, and story concept. Negative Points: Glaring continuity errors, all the other actors, the story follow through.

Intriguing Marketing, Poor Follow Through
18 January 2008
I gave it a six because it was only boring during the opening party scenes. After the opening the action picks up and you start to enjoy it, then the nausea from the camera's movements start to kick in, this had me screaming in my head to just end already because no movie should make you feel like you've been spinning in circles for 30 minutes. I only went because the mysterious marketing campaign sucked me in, after leaving it left me wishing that I hadn't paid $9 to see it, if interested try to make it a matinée. Overall, interesting story, moments that will make you jump, a nauseating camera and poor story leave you feeling screwed over but entertained for a short while.
