54 Days: China and the Pandemic (2021)
Decent documentary
This appears to be a very well constructed documentary on the outbreak of the Coronavirus. It's a really important story, but I find it hard to concentrate on what it is telling me. There is constant eerie sound effects, sinister music and the screen keeps shaking presumably for dramatic effect.
In Search of Medieval Britain (2008)
Good history/travel series
Alixe Bovey travels around Britain using the Gough map (circa 1400). She is good company and full of interesting information and stories. I am currently watching it for the second time on PBS America and enjoying just as much as the first time. I am a big fan of Robert Bartlett who is more concerned with medieval political history, whereas Alixe Bovey, here, is covering medieval social history.
Stateless (2020)
1 or 10 out of 10
Please stop giving rating depending on your political bias. I began to watch this drama because of the high ratings this was getting on IMDB. It's good intentions were obvious, but as a drama it was second rate and I gave up half way through the 3rd episode.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)
Great film for kids (and all the family)
I am getting annoyed with all the extreme reviews
Too many 10/10s and definitely too many 1/10s.
This is a lovely film which all children love. Some of the child actors aren't very good, but they improved as the series of films progressed. The adult actors are terrific. The creme of British actors, perfectly cast and having a great time.
The locations and music are very good and the film is well paced.
I just wish people would give films a score they deserve and not rank it extremely high or low to change the IMDB average to suit.
Defending the Guilty (2018)
Good comedy drama.
This is not a sitcom.( There are few laugh out loud moments). It is a very good comedy drama. With Interesting, likeable characters, well written and with an extremely good soundtrack
Years and Years (2019)
Doesn't highlight the most important dangers facing the world
Climate change and (the not unrelated) overpopulation of the world are hardly mentioned in this look at our dystopian future. The Arctic ice has all melted but nobody seems to be affected by this major disaster even though it is suggested everybody will have to move to plateaus.
Otherwise the drama is well paced and acted by a good caste.
