The Hunt for Eagle One (2006 Video)

Well they must have spent the budget they had set aside for the technical adviser on all the pyro and squibs they blew off. A good war movie is FAR more than authentic uniforms, locations, equipment. Doesn't matter how good your replica looks if the acting, continuity, and technicalities are crap! The pilot, after the crash doesn't even attempt to check the many other troops injured in the crash, she goes right to the conscious one with a hurt leg - no blood to be seen... this is the crappiest triage I have ever seen - not at all real to what a true Marine would do in that situation. She also remains way too calm during the crash AND after the crash - this scene coupled with the lame beach attack scene alerted me that turning the movie off would be the best thing to do.

This movie is a waste of time, a waste of a Hollywood budget, and a shame to army movies.

Dreamcatcher (2003)

Read the book (and enjoy!), but don't get your hopes up for the movie.

Warning: Spoilers
I read the book before watching this movie so I have no idea what it would have looked like to fresh eyes. I imagine many parts of it would have been confusing.

It was a fair enough adaptation of an 879 page Stephen King novel, but there really was a lot of details that were left out, changed, and in some cases there were some things not in the book that got added....like the ending: Duddits physically kills Mr.Gray by becoming an alien lifeform himself. Kurtz (called Curtis in the movie) gets to the reservoir where the others are in a stolen chopper and Owen's gift gun from Kurtz with the bug in it (no psychic byrum-filled Perlmutter needed)is how he even finds them in the first place. As for Henry's earlier escape from quarantine - General Mathieson takes over - no Henry borne uprising in the quarantine needed to break free. Not much mind-reading going on at the army setup at Gosselin's. Not much mention of Mindspeak aside from D and the 4 friends at all.

On the other hand I did like how Jonesey's warehouse of memories was portrayed. Those scenes are just as I'd imagined them while I was absorbed in the novel. And also the scenes of when they are younger were done well. The line was supposed to be yellow, nonetheless the line was portrayed interestingly in the movie (similiar looking to Donnie Darko's). Too bad we never got to see them bringing Josie home to the worried Rinkenhauer parents gathered at the Cavell's.

The film is good to begin with, then everything kinda speeds up and gets messy and that seems to be when all the major additives came in. Too bad! I'd say read the book, and enjoy it, because it's great, just don't get your hopes up for the film.
