Surprised I Haven't Seen This Already
1 April 2022
I really liked this movie. When I told my professor I just watched it for the first time he was surprised because this is a "classic." I see why you can call it that if you saw this when it first came out. Watching it for the first time now and I thought it was really funny, had some really quotable moments, and there were a lot of creative and well-written characters.

John Goodman and Jeff Bridges had good performances. John Goodman was surprisingly hilarious and I really enjoyed the scenes with Steve Buscemi's character and the three of them at the bowling alley a lot. I have never seen Jeff Bridges in this type of role and I thought he was really funny and really personified The Dude character well. The plot doesn't take itself too seriously and it is a good movie to just turn on and enjoy.

Overall, The Big Lebowski was a really good movie and I recommend checking it out. It was a really well-made comedy and the characters had depth and were fun to watch. The Dude lowkey reminded me of one of my professors that I have had with the way he dressed and walked. Not necessarily his whole personality but parts about him. Also the cardigan The Dude wears at the end is fire. Iconic look.

Very Interesting
1 April 2022
Saw this at the 50th Anniversary Screening at my University. Werner Herzog attended and had a discussion after the show with co-producer Jose Koechlin.

I thought Aguirre, The Wrath of God was a really good movie and I recommend watching it. I thought it was very well filmed and that the actors had very interesting performances. The story itself was a little confusing for a first viewing and even a little bit slow. But, the allegories and hidden meaning through the symbolism and filmmaking were very well crafted. The themes of madness were also very apparent.

I found it really interesting during the discussion when Herzog mentioned how they shot all of the film on location and most of the shots had to be done in one take. For example, Herzog states that the famous "Wrath of God" scene was done in one take. As well as the shot of the ship stuck in the tree, the final shot with the monkeys, and most of the raging river shots. They quite literally could not afford to do things twice. Herzog kept saying he was so young when he made the film, only 28, that it was "a film made by kids, a kids film." Werner also shared how he went door to door during shooting to get money that he needed to pay the hundreds of extras. And He sold his shoes.

Herzog also shared a story about Kinsky and how he genuinely was mad just like his character. He told a story about how he shot a gun in a tent filled with crew and extras because they were making to much noise in the jungle late at night.

It was a very interesting movie and it was really cool to sit there and watch Herzog himself have a discussion. Very informative and definitely great experience. I believe with a rewatch and more analysis I will enjoy and appreciate this film more.

Really Good. B+.
1 April 2022
Creative title, but don't get excited because they never explain it.

Licorice Pizza is a Dramedy set in the 1970s and follows the lives of two characters: Alana Kane and Gary Valentine. Gary Valentine is a 15-year-old high school student with an obscure passion for acting and an incredible entrepreneurial spirit. He is also a lady's man. Alana Kane is an 18-year-old photographer's assistant who has a fancy for boys who know how to sweet talk. The film is essentially about the two and how they go through the treacherous navigation of young love in the 70s.

I thought the film opened very strongly. The opening scene is a long take where we are immediately introduced to the two main characters. I thought the dialogue in this scene was well written and the actors' chemistry translated well onto the screen. We get a sense as to who these characters are, but not fully, which gives us room for wanting more. Which is something I really liked.

A big theme of the story that I interpreted is the idea of unspoken love and how it can lead to things such as jealousy, malice, or regret. The fact that they say they are friends but are flirting with each other throughout the movie is an example of this. This leads to tension whenever one of them flirts with someone else as it is obvious that they both like each other. They both like each other but don't admit to liking each other which leads to them doing things that hurt the other. In that way, it is a very different type of romance. One that isn't necessarily even about love, but about unspoken love. I actually really liked this aspect of the movie despite it almost becoming repetitive.

There are a few plot points and character decisions that I either didn't fully understand because it wasn't explained or that I just did not agree with for the characters. Some involve Gary's acting career, how he gets money for his various businesses, as well as Alana and her ties to the campaign for mayor, and her relationships with some of the characters there. Both are not explained at all and you are just supposed to accept what the movie is telling you. Other than that I thought the screenplay was very engaging and fun.

The cinematography and framing of the shots was very interesting as well. There were a lot of well-filmed scenes and sequences. Like the Bradley Cooper sequence was hilarious and well done. While the sequence doesn't necessarily drive the plot at all it does a good job at showcasing the chemistry between the characters as well as the choices they make and the emotions they show. There were a lot of funny scenes in the movie, I was actually surprised at how funny this was because I was going into it having thought it was just a romance movie.

Overall, I thought Licorice Pizza was a really good movie and I recommend watching it. The movie is filmed beautifully and has some really great sequences. The dialogue is written very well and the actors have great chemistry. The editing also stood out to me in various scenes and does a good job at enhancing the storytelling. I did not agree with some of the character decisions and some of the major plot points which I thought maybe could have been done differently or been explained more. But, I still enjoyed the film and the ideas it was trying to express were very unique and interesting. This movie isn't for everyone because not much really HAPPENS but it definitely is a movie that can be analyzed and interpreted in different ways. I feel like with a rewatch I might even appreciate or enjoy the film more, but who knows.

Love This Film
1 April 2022
The first time I watched this movie was in my 10th grade film class, and I didn't quite appreciate it at the time. Although the Roxanne scene some how stuck with me for sure. I did enjoy the music too. But, I thought the story and acting was a little weird and over the top.

Second time around, now a few years later and I really enjoyed this film. The editing, music, and the cinematography were all beautifully put together. There were many moments that are unique and the creative remixes to some of the songs are all put together into the story. It's a great film and it's a great musical. Although if you're not a fan of musicals, love story's, or the fast paced editing. This film might not be for you. I thought it was a very creative film.

Eraserhead (1977)

This Whole Film Felt Like a Fever Dream.
1 April 2022
This is the first David Lynch film I've ever seen and in this film he truly proves his cinematic genius. The film makes you uncomfortable from the very start. From the disturbing visuals to the unique camera placement and the genius cinematography Eraserhead is certainly dreamlike.

It feels like everything in this film was done for a specific reason. The framing as well as the unique sound editing and mixing all work together to create a very uneasy and unsettling atmosphere combined with the weird acting by all the performers. Who all do terrific in providing creepy performances. The film definitely had me saying "What the F-K" on numerous occasions.

The screenplay is very weird, but from the second that strange opening scene ended and especially the strange scene with the chicken and the dinner. I was in it, I was hooked. The film feels very much like a nightmare, as if we are a viewer looking in to Henry's mind as he's experiencing a nightmare.

Overall, I thought Eraserhead was great film, and I recommend it for anyone who loves classic films or horror films. Definitely going to check out more of David Lynch's work now. I also feel like there's 100% a deeper meaning to this film that I know I missed. I will definitely be checking it out a second or third time in the future.

Great Film
1 April 2022
Well written, well acted, well directed. Not much wrong with this film. Natalie Portman nails it as The Swan Queen and deserved that Oscar. I particularly liked the long takes during the ballet scenes as well as the editing during the nightclub scenes. It's also got some stunning visuals as well as beautiful choreography for the dances. Will I be watching it again any time soon? Honestly, maybe. It's definitely a film that can be deeply interpreted over multiple viewings. Watching it a second time may honestly make it a complete different viewing experience. It's a great film and worth a watch. Absolutely not at all what I expected.

Riveting and Genuinely Surprising
1 April 2022
A genuine compelling, well shot, and well acted film. This is a film that makes some risky decisions and brings something new to the table. The cinematography and shot choices make the film very unique and engrossing. The colors and lighting in this film are very psychedelic and it looks really pretty. There's lots of handheld camera work and long takes. As well as closeups, extreme closeups and some documentaryish camera angles. This will either work for you, or it won't. I enjoyed it and thought it was a creative way to film what we were viewing to truly capture that feeling of stress and anxiety the filmmakers were looking for. But, if your like my dad, it annoyed you. (Dizzy) Robert Pattinson has a great performance and really makes you believe he's this asshole who only really cares about his brother and himself and Benny Safdie's performance really surprised me as I've never seen his work before and that opening scene with him was heartbreaking and I didn't even know the character yet. I thought it was very unique and creative how they decided to begin this film especially with the opening credits. But, after the opening 15-20 minutes, it does drag. But, once it picks up it's like "wow okay" and it really makes the movie.

Besides the camera placement, movement, cinematography and acting. The music in this film was also beautiful and perfect for the film. It definitely gave me the same vibes as the music in Uncut Gems as well as the psychedelic color scheme throughout the film. I guess that's just the Safdie brother style, but I like it, it's unique.

This film is filled with surprises, some truly jaw dropping ones at that. Multiple times I was like "Wow" or I was thinking "This film is crazy." Although, the ending definitely left me quite unfulfilled and honestly a little disappointed. Overall, I thought it was a great movie with some very interesting ideas and it was filmed quite beautifully. But, I did like Uncut Gems better, although they are two very different yet very similar movies. I recommend watching it though, it is a *GoOd TiMe* ba dum tss.

The Start of One of My Favorite Trilogy's.
1 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't remember this being that good. I mean, I loved the 2nd and 3rd, but I always remember thinking this was the slowest. I always liked this film but I remember it being kinda of slow and boring. But, honestly after seeing it again after a longtime I truly think this film is amazing. The storytelling, character building, and the realism are all amazing. The CGI doesn't hold up the way it used to though.

The best way to watch is to watch with the idea of this happening in real life because it makes it so much better. Thinking if something like this was actually possible. The ending is also very much like real life bc of COVID, spooky.

Caesar is one of my favorite movie characters of all time. Andy Serkis is the king of motion capture and I think the Planet of the Apes is some of his best work so far. Watching Caesar learn over time were some of my favorite scenes. I loved watching the evolution of the apes and how Caesar becomes the leader and learns and teaches. My favorite scene is when (SPOILERS) Caesar speaks for the first time and they take control. It still gives me goosebumps when Caesar says NO. My other favorite scene is the Gorilla sacrificing himself for Caesar. It really shows how they are willing to die for there leader already.

Overall, Rise of the Planet of the Apes in my opinion is a great film. Any film that makes me feel this strongly about it deserves a great rating. The CGI may not be comparable to the sequels, but the character development is outstanding, and the story is both good and bad, because you want to cheer for the apes, but you know that means the humans lose, and you can't bet against your own kind. That's what's so amazing about this trilogy and why it's one of my favorites. I genuinely feel emotion when watching this trilogy. Great film. Honestly, when it comes to terms of quality and filmmaking, I think War is an overall better film. But, I honestly think I like Rise even better. I just feel like Rise is a more rewatch able film and the fact that it's the shortest also helps as well as the fairly simple story in comparison to the sequels. But Dawn is definitely my favorite of the three. Dawn, Rise, War. In terms of my favorite, but overall filmmaking Rise is the weakest.

Great film. This is a childhood classic and one of the best of Dreamworks filmography. The animation is great. There are some great characters as well as amazing storytelling, action, and emotion.

Jack Black is a king, and hilarious af, even through just his voice he always gets me. The cast is filled with A listers also. I mean Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogan, etc. That's a crazy good cast for any film. Let alone an animated children's film. Tai Lung is the best animated villain in cinema. Lmao jk. But he truly is a great villain especially for an animated film like this. He was menacing.

Overall, Kung Fu Panda is a great movie. It's got character development, action, emotion, good storytelling and great animation. As well as an amazing ensemble voice cast. Not much not to like. I also will always love it because it is from my childhood, so it will always be one of my favorite movies.

Gremlins (1984)

Great Film
1 April 2022
"What superior popular moviemaking is all about" (Richard Corliss, Time).

Gremlins is a great film. Directed and designed beautifully this film utilizes practical effects, horror and comedy to create a classic Christmas film for the whole family. The production design, props, and special effects are all done so well. I love the use of practical effects and I wish movies today used them more, we know if this was made today the Gremlins would have been CGI and the fact that they are practical makes it 10x better. The story is pretty simple and the film is really good at showing as opposed to telling. With its use of the rules and showing us what happens when the Mogwai get wet or eat after midnight.

Overall, Gremlins is a great film. It's well made and well executed. The story isn't complex, it is simple and easy to follow and the practical effects are amazing. I also really liked the soundtrack, there are a few really good songs in there. I think Gremlins is a good time for the whole family, doesn't require much attention, is easy to enjoy, and is a very well made and well directed film. I recommend everyone watches Gremlins in their lifetime.

Blackfish (2013)
9/10
Heartbreaking, Shocking, and Very Well Told
1 April 2022
Watched this in my Animals and Society course at my University

Blackfish is a 2013 documentary about the treatment of Orcas in captivity. The story mainly follows the whale Tilikum and his tragic life, but also focuses on multiple different whales and their stories as well. Tilikum in particular is responsible for three human deaths with one of them being a very important senior trainer. Blackfish puts a spotlight on the devastating consequences of keeping these intelligent and sentient animals in captivity.

My personal reaction to this film is that of a multitude of feelings. It makes me feel upset but also angry that this has been going on for so long. What is really heartbreaking to me is that I have been to Sea World Orlando when I was a little kid and I literally saw Tilikum in person with his bent fin. I remember thinking at the time "Wow that's a huge whale," but also "Why is his fin bent so far down like that," and now that I have the answer I find it to be very disturbing. What is also very hard to process is the fact that I likely have seen Dawn and Tilikum together during a show while I was there.

Now, when it comes to the film and the content they show I thought it was all heartbreaking from beginning to end and it is an absolute tragedy what happened to Dawn. The fact that these animals speak in their own dialects, have their own pods or social groups, and are very well quite aware of what is going on was mindboggling to me. The beginning when they show the hunters and how the whales split up to confuse the hunters was amazing. These whales are seriously smart and the treatment for them regardless of the love the trainers give them is barbaric. It is not surprising to me that there are so many instances of the whales hurting somebody. There is no bond with the animal other than the human giving it food.

It's crazy to me that the treatment of these animals has lasted the way it has for so long and at this point, it is not like Sea World can just shut down and release them all because they would all die. It is kind of a lose-lose situation unless someone in Sea World wakes up and finds a way to put them in a safety pen or habitat in the ocean where they could have enough room to roam and so they don't die in a swimming pool. It is clear that Sea World tries really hard to cover things up, especially with the way they handled the tragedy with Dawn. I do not think it was a complete lie when they said "If Dawn was here she would say it was her mistake" because she has that personality which they make apparent in the film. But, to say that in the reaction of the tragedy is very apathetic in my opinion, and had Tilikum been with his family then Dawn would have been with hers and this never would have happened.

Overall, I thought Blackfish was an amazing film. It is probably now my favorite documentary and one of the best that I have ever seen. The story is very well told, the footage they show is well crafted, and the film manages to evoke a lot of emotion from its audience. I want to show this film to everyone. It has had me in a trance for weeks. Everyone needs to see this amazing documentary.

127 Hours (2010)

Great Film.
30 March 2022
It's hard for a movie about one guy in one place for an hour and a half to be interesting and not boring for an audience, but I honestly think this film did a great job at keeping a steady pace and not really ever becoming boring. Despite the lack of multiple characters or any real engaging dialogue. There's times where it may drag in truth, but the tension and anticipation keep you on your feet the whole time. In my opinion.

I loved the whole way the first act is played out and how when he gets stuck the title appears and the movie really starts. Thats when I was like, "ohhhh, okay." The film was honestly really realistic and at times disturbing. I definitely wanted to look away. Iykyk.

Extremely well acted by James Franco and great directing by Danny Boyle. Probably James Franco's most well acted film? Either way, they were the two stars of the film. There was really great imagery and cinematography used as well, to make us understand and feel when he's dehydrated or hallucinating etc. I thought that was really cool. Made me thirsty.

Overall, I think 127 Hours was a great film. The soundtrack? Wow, so many bangers, I was delightfully surprised. The SOUND and the EDITING. Really make this whole film an experience. It's the sound effects man. That whole scene where "it" happens. The sound is so intense it just enhances the cringe. Really great filmmaking for a very uncomfortable scene. But, in all honesty, I might not watch it again anytime soon, but it's definitely worth it at least once. The whole movie is very tense, especially if you go into it knowing whats going to end up happening. Its definitely an experience. You're really rooting for him the whole time.

Ted (2012)

Such a Great Film. Seth MacFarlane is a Genius.
30 March 2022
I remember seeing this in theaters when I was 12 with both my mom and my dad. LMAO.

Ted is one of the best characters ever. There's no denying it. He's hilarious as hell. Everything he says makes me smile. He's such a like able character.

This is one of those comedies that makes you laugh no matter how many times you've seen it. I've seen this film more times than I can remember and it still gets me. Such a consistent film in terms of comedy. Despite the many offensive jokes, this film really wasn't just all raunch. It's got heart.

No I don't wanna say Mark Wahlberg carries the film, because Seth Macfarlane does a terrific job with the voice work. But, man Wahlberg has never been this funny. He's funnier in this than in Other Guys. Such a great actor, he does a great job.

Overall, Ted is honestly a great movie. It's a comedy that will have you laughing from start to finish. It's a comedy that you can watch over and over and still laugh. It's honestly one of my favorite films and Ted is one of the best CGI characters ever made. First and second acts are great while the third act is the weakest of the three.

If you hate Family Guy then this film isn't for you. Then again if you hate Family Guy your probably boring as hell and wouldn't enjoy a funny movie if it slapped you in the face.

Great Film
30 March 2022
Surprisingly hilarious and strange story about living life to the fullest. This film was really well made and the soundtrack for the film was also amazing. I really enjoyed watching it, it was fun to watch.

Ruth Gordon really had a great and touching performance in the film as Maude, an old woman who loves life and the earth. I also thought Bud Cort was surprisingly charming as well in the film as Harold, a young man who is very much so obsessed with death. I think the clashing of the two works very well and they actually have great chemistry together. Whenever it was their time to shine they both absolutely rocked their scenes. I thought in the end it was actually a touching, yet heartbreaking film. It's a perfect example of opposites attract.

Overall, Harold and Maude was a great film. Definitely gave me similar vibes to The Graduate. Nevertheless, the characters, storytelling, camera work, shot composition, cinematography and acting were all great. I recommend checking it out tbh. There are a lot of good messages in the film.

Definitely one of my favorites from the New Hollywood era so far.

Lady Bird (2017)
8/10
Amazingly Written and Extremely Well Acted. Terrific Filmmaking.
30 March 2022
You know it's a great movie when you can feel as if you're not watching a movie and your watching real life. The characters in this film feel so real and are written and portrayed so well that it feels like you're watching real people. Like I want to be friends with Lady Bird. I feel like I already know her. The things that happen to her and the people she meets along the way were honestly really relatable. The way Christine thinks and the things she does reminded me a lot of my senior year of high school.

Greta Gerwig did a phenomenal job with the screenplay and with the direction of this film. It is really inspiring to know that this was her first film that she wrote and directed. She absolutely killed it. I was very impressed.

Overall, Lady Bird was a great film. I really enjoyed it. It was funny, relatable, and sad at times. The acting was brilliant and the writing was inspiring. All the scenes were shot beautifully. I really don't have any flaws for this film. It is nearly perfect. Although, it may not be for everyone. It is centered around a teenage girl and it is very much about a mother/daughter relationship. I could see that not being interesting to some. But, I'm glad I watched it and I'm excited to see it again. I'd even buy it on Blu-Ray tbh. Definitely check this one out.

A high school movie where the kids actually have acne? Love to see it.

Forever Iconic
30 March 2022
Although very short this film manages to be one of if not the most iconic Halloween film as well as being one of my favorite Christmas films as well. The entire soundtrack in the film is outstanding. That and the stop motion animation is easily what makes the film as memorable as it is. Had it been animated and not stop motion then it would not at all be as great as it is. It would still be good and the music would still be great, but the stop motion gives it that creepy vibe and it makes it so much more fun to watch. It's honestly really short. Like really short. Not even 90 minutes. That just means the film manages to get everything it needs done in that time frame while still managing to create a multitude of memorable characters and a few iconic ones as well.

Overall, The Nightmare Before Christmas is a great film. I could listen to the soundtrack all day it's so amazing every single song SLAPS. The stop motion in the film is so creepy yet so beautiful and oddly satisfying at points. It's one of the greatest films to ever do it. So many amazing shots. Every stop motion film strives to be at least as good as this one. So that says something. Definitely check this out if you haven't already. It's the greatest Halloween X Christmas crossover you'll ever see.

Saw this in Universal Studios City Walk in Orlando. Was awesome to see this film on the big screen. I loved it.

Great Film
30 March 2022
It's a great movie. This was my first time watching it and although, I know it's probably unpopular, I do not see this movie as a "masterpiece." It is a good character study and you follow the mind of Travis Bickle. I was entertained by this movie and thought the score was absolutely amazing. Robert Deniro also has a great performance as well as a young Jodie Foster. Scorsese does a good job showing what it's really like in New York in the 70s and I did like how he shot that ending shoot out in the brothel. Making it slow motion really made it seem like you were in Travis's head, how Travis doesn't even flinch when he gets shot in the neck. The story wasn't all that complex though, but that's not really a bad thing. I didn't really like the cinematography all that much in certain scenes and yes the story was good but I honestly felt like it could have been done better. Not a masterpiece and definitely not Scorsese's best, but nonetheless it is a really good movie. Although not amazing, but it's really good. I'd watch it again as well, and maybe after seeing it a second time my opinion will change. But as of rn, it's not. Also, I went in knowing that people thought the Joker was like it, and honestly I could see similarities but to me joker was a better film.

A Guaranteed Good Time With Every Watch
30 March 2022
"WOW! The worlds best cup of coffee. Congratulations guys! You did it!"

This film truly never gets old. I've loved it since I was a kid and it's honestly one of my favorite Christmas movies and I am a huge Christmas movie guy. Will Ferrel is absolutely great in this film and does amazing with the innocence of Buddy the Elf. I definitely had a few real laughs watching this movie. There are some really funny parts. It's also SUPER quotable and there are lots of memorable scenes. Although the third act is where it goes downhill imo but it's not bad. I thought the relationship between Zoey Deschanel and Will Ferrel was a little rushed tbh. Would she realistically fall for him? Maybe. But I do always love the end when everyone is singing in Central Park.

I thought the special effects with the elves in the North Pole compared to Buddy was really well done. And the set and stop motion characters in the North Pole were amusing as well.

Overall, Elf is a great film. It's heartwarming, funny, innocent, has great music, and is one of my favorite Christmas stories. I just saw it in theaters because they are playing Christmas Classics. It was a lot of fun. Definitely still holds up but I didnthink the story gets a little rushed towards the third act.

Great Film
30 March 2022
Heartbreaking that this was Chadwick Bosemans last performance, but bitter sweet that it was probably his best. He absolutely steals the show. With every line of dialogue Chadwick expresses his emotions beautifully. The laughter, the excitement, the anger, and the sadness can all be seen through his eyes and it's truly amazing how you can see the passion within him.

The screenplay is extremely well written. There are multiple monologues in which Chadwick evokes so much emotion that it not only brings him to tears but potentially to the viewers as well. I certainly found myself to be choking up a few times. Viola Davis is also great in this film. She was so charismatic. I can see her and Chadwick being nominated for Oscars. They both show some much passion in this film it's just an experience in itself to see them act. There are some really powerful monologues and important concepts and themes in this movie.

The fact that this film is only an hour and a half saves this film. This film did not need to be long and I'm glad it wasn't because it did NOT feel like it dragged at all. I was entertained and intrigued the whole time. Especially the scenes with people sitting around talking. The dialogue is just so well written. Had this film been longer it would not have been as good.

I thought the filmmaking was great as well. The cinematography was gritty and the shots all were filmed in a way that makes us feel like we are in the room with characters. The film is based on a play after all. The long takes, shot composition and the fact that it's all mostly in one location is what really brought out that theater feeling. You can tell it's based off a play.

Overall, I thought Ma Rainey's Black Bottom was a great film. The screenplay is fantastic as well as the acting and the filmmaking combined with the music work extremely well together to bring this play to the screen. It's a perfect length in my opinion and doesn't drag at all. A great ending as well. Lots of symbolism. I'd love to see Boseman get the Oscar nom he deserves and hopefully a win as well. So sad that we won't get anymore from him. Truly an amazing actor and he shows it in this film.

This is a Pure Action Movie
30 March 2022
Just became one of my favorite films.

I don't know what to say other than, wow! This movie has some of the best action I have seen in a long time. Maybe ever. You can tell this movie was made by real martial artists who knew what they were doing and not only did they choreograph some absolutely spectacular scenes, but the way they filmed it was almost perfect. There is no overuse of shaky cam and there are no jump cuts and there are some really great long takes. The action is well framed, clear, and in the shot so we can see these fighters go to work. The camera work and cinematography definitely was impressive.

The main character is set up in the beginning and the film wastes no time and tells us what we need to know so it can get to the point. The main character is badass and ballsy. You understand his motivations and who he is as a person and you can see that he knows he is in danger. Which is what makes this movie so good because it's like we are watching this guy genuinely fight for his life. Although he is the only character that you're really gonna give a shit about. There's not much depth or character development given to many of the characters.

But, the action is able to tell the story. In fact, the storytelling within the action is some of the best I have seen. It is absolute carnage and mayhem at its best. The bad guys are given a few establishing scenes to show us they are bad. It's the cliche crime overlord villain. But the way the action plays out really does tell a story. It's extremely hard hitting and fun to watch. I was laughing and enjoying every second of it. There were so many times where I was like "Damn!" or "Holy Shit!" and just loving it all.

Overall, The Raid is a really good movie and I recommend watching it. If you like action movies at all then you will love this movie. There are so many awesome fights that I went back the next day after I finished the movie and rewatched a bunch of them. This makes me really want to start getting into some Kung Fu movies. The plot of the movie is simple but the execution is what makes it really good. If you like action movies there is no way you won't find this film enjoyable.

The scene where he is hiding in the wall was so well filmed. I was on the edge of my seat.

There is a 2v1 fight that very well might be the best action scene I have ever watched.

A Quiet Place (2018)

Rewatched Before Part Two
30 March 2022
John Krasinski did a fantastic job with this film. The writing, the directing, and the acting are all great in this movie. That says a lot for a film that willingly puts itself in this situation by everyone needing to remain silent. The sign language really works and kudos to all the actors because I thought they did great.

Emily Blunt was amazing as usual and I was actually really surprised by the acting from the two children as well. I mean they kind of had to carry the film with their acting since it was practically a silent film. Millicent Simmons and Noah Jupe really acted their hearts out and were able to give two memorable and emotional performances while having to coexist and act alongside such great actors like Emily and John. I can imagine that may have been intimidating, this only being Millicents second film. John has multiple emotional scenes and they are all great. The same could be said for Emily because she has one scene in particular that is just absolutely crazy.

Really good opening scene to set up the film. It creates a world, sets up character arcs, is emotional, shocking, and scary as it shows you how dangerous this world they live in really is, and how serious it is. The filmmaking throughout the film is great. Also, the sound editing and how all the noise goes out when it's focused on the girl and the ambient noise returns when the cameras on the son. Real good stuff. Brilliant. I also really liked the production design. There were a lot of little details around their house that shows you how they survive. It tells a story in itself.

Although, I didn't like some things. Some of the jump scares I thought were ineffective and unnecessary, I did not like the ending and I think the film could have benefited from being a little bit longer, there are a few plot holes as well. But the movie is fun and it is better than most horror films these days. I was on the edge of my seat.

Overall, I thought A Quiet Place was a great film. I have seen it once before when it first came out. I liked it just as much this time around. This is a movie that you want to show people. Like if my friends hadn't seen this I would wanna show it to them. The filmmaking and acting is phenomenal from everyone and the movie manages to be a suspense driven thriller that is not only emotional and character driven but interesting and unique throughout.

I Thought This Was A Beautiful Film
30 March 2022
The voice cast did a great job with this film. Jacob Tremblay, Jack Grazer, and Emma Berman did a great job at filling their roles and I thought that their chemistry really translated well onto the screen. Also, the actor Saverio Raimondo as Ercole I thought did really well for what he was given. Even though he is one of Pixar's weaker villains he was super entertaining to watch and the character was a total douche. I thought it was funny. If his presence starts to piss you off, good, it is supposed to.

When it comes to the animation, production, and sound design the filmmakers knocked it out the park with this. The music SHOULD NOT be slept on. It is amazing. The Italian culture is represented beautifully. It has Italian actors and is made by an Italian director. Within the animation it is no surprise that Pixar kills it again. It is my favorite style of animation there is. The countryside, the ocean and the town looked beautiful and definitely took a lot of research. Also, there are easter eggs planted throughout. (Look out for the Pizza Planet scooter). The water, the hair, and all the little details are really well done as well. And when it comes to sound it's just so ✨crisp✨ It definitely isn't Pixar's best film and it isn't one of the deepest movies you'll ever see. But it does send a few messages such as accepting people for who they are and embracing people for who they are but it does take some more deep diving into the actual content of the story to find that out.

Overall, I thought Luca was a great film. It isn't a Ratatouille or a Nemo but it definitely is a great movie nonetheless regardless if Pixar doesn't knock it out of the park or not. The story is easy, fun, and executed well. I do think the movie could have benefitted if it told us a little more about Luca's world and explained to us some more about what he does down there in the sea with his family before they started the fish out of water story. Also they never explain why they change into humans. I know it is mentioned once as the change or changing, but it is very brief and thrown away quickly. Nevertheless, I still think they did a great job at creating a heartfelt and amusing story. Great film. 👍.

Watched this on a projector screen in my Aunt's backyard next to the pool. Was pretty cool.

Memento (2000)

My Friend and I Both Left This Movie With Headaches.
30 March 2022
I went into this knowing nothing. This is a heavy movie. It requires your full attention and if it is your first viewing you will most definitely be confused at first. And it had my full attention.

It took until pretty deep into the first act to figure out what was actually going on. In terms of the editing. I can imagine for some this may be very confusing. But once I figured it out I kind of dug it. It does become slightly repetitive and almost predictable, to a point, but impressive and intriguing nonetheless. The film is definitely one of a kind. I have never seen a movie quite like this before. Extremely clever and original.

Guy Pierce is great. He carries the film with his performance. Christopher Nolan's talent also shines through the directing. He is one of my favorite directors of all time. I'm glad I finally got to watch this film. It is really well put together. I will also shout out the editor Dody Dorn because this must have been a bitch and a half to edit.

The way the film plays out it really does make you feel like you have Leonard's condition. It's crazy. I definitely think I should watch the movie again because then I will truly understand everything also because I will find something new every time. The movie is shocking at times.

Overall, I thought Memento was a great movie. For a first viewing this was definitely both a confusing and thrilling experience. The performances were great, the story is clever, original, and mind bending. I think there is a lot more to this film than one viewing does justice. With another viewing I might rate this higher. For a first viewing and knowing absolutely nothing about it, it really requires a lot of work to watch and figure out what is going on. With a second viewing I can really sit down and enjoy what's happening while fully understanding it. It really is one of the craziest movies I've ever seen and how it is put together is awesome to me. If you are a true lover of film I definitely recommend checking this one out. Great film.

Tenet wishes it was this good.

Lone Survivor (2013)

Not Every War Movie is Propaganda
30 March 2022
This is one of my favorite modern-day war movies. The fact that it is a true story not only makes it much more emotional, but also impacts the film in that these guys are really some real life heros. Mark Whalberg is amazing in this film, the action is amazing in this film, and the stakes are really high as well. The action has even been described as some of the most realistic action that looks at combat scenarios since Saving Private Ryan by former members of the military. It's claustrophobic and doesn't rely on crazy explosions or an abundance of CGI.

People say that it is nothing more than army propaganda and for those who do it honestly, shame on you. This actually happened. There are a few cheesy lines which definitely make the viewer wanna go "America! Fuck Yea!" but this is the exact type of movie I would expect to hear things like that. The scene with the kids and where they debate what to do is really compelling and makes your heart race. Seriously, what can you do in that situation?

Overall, I think Lone Survivor is a great movie. It is an awesome action war movie which also happens to be a true story. It is emotional, inspiring, and super intense. The movie manages to keep you on your feet despite the spoiler in its own title. Great film.

Mike Murphy grew up in the same town my Grandma lived in.

Totally Feels Like an Animated Ocean's Movie
30 March 2022
Great

The animation is absolutely superb. With some of the best stop motion work I have ever seen. The aesthetic of the entire film is absolutely beautiful and the story is one that both children and adults can enjoy.

It made me laugh a lot, I was surprised how funny the movie actually was, I don't think I have ever seen it all the way through until now. I loved Isle of Dogs so I knew I would like this one. This film really does have a lot of heart. The voice actors were brilliantly cast and really enhanced the film. And the music was amazing! The soundtrack really stood out to me.

Overall, I thought Fantastic, Mr. Fox was a great film. The story was well written and fun to watch. The film was absolutely breathtaking from the start, with it's aesthetic being beautiful throughout the entirety. And it has a lot of rewatachability. The ending doesn't necessarily feel happy but it isn't exactly bad either. So not sure how I felt about that. Otherwise, great film.
