Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
Really quite bad & Such a waste of time
This film promised high & delivered low in my opinion.
The premise of the film makes this another remake of Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai" but really quite poor in the retelling. Remember when the Original 'Dune' film tried to compress 4 books into 90 minutes? This film takes a similar approach but even at over 2hours there a so much assumed backstory that you're lost halfway through.
Once you get past the unoriginal plot - you're onto the script , casting and acting. All of which are stilted and horrible. Clunky dialogue that feels like each scene is rushed to get to the next scene without any improvement to plot. The accents are all over the place and even the SFX feels like it was cut in from a 20 years old sci-fi movie. And finally once you get past all of that.... There's the very heavy handed use of slow motion in the fight scenes. It's all so over the top and bad that this film will no doubt be an odds on winner for the Golden Raspberry Award. 3 out 10. Utterly disappointing. Really quite badly made.
Inside Man (2022)
Contrived, idiotic nonsense.
I watched all 4 episodes (I state this as some reviews only made it as far as 20mins). The only saving grace in this entire shambles of a drama was the the interactions between Stanley Gucci's character & his fellow Death Row inmate. Here you find good dialogue, wit and humour. Precisely the opposite of the rest of this series. The conversations , responses & actions by all other characters were utterly contrived, completely unrealistic & implausible. It's as if Stephen Moffat (Writer) couldn't write this without such fantastical reactions that otherwise would never happen - just to perpetuate this nonsense plot. Special mention to the actress who played the "investigative journalist" who acted like an entitled and stroppy teenage college student.
My advice : avoid this. Save your time for anything else.
Chicago Fire: Completely Shattered (2022)
Sack these writers...
Used to have a lot of love for this show but ever since they brought in Stella KIDD's character. Something has been off. It seems that the writers have created a monster that everyone except them can see. Arrogant. Demanding. Sexist. Plays the gender card to get what she wants. And all the male characters are written to capitulate. It makes for a deeply unenjoyable viewing experience. Beyond that the other characters now get less and less screen time in favor of the Cringeshow horror fest that is Stella Kidd. If it were up to me - I'd write her out of the show and replace her with Otis' long lost twin brother. The Fire has well and truly gone out on this show.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Fun - but Disney's Leftist Woke Agenda abounds
Its fun to watch, sure... I really wanted this to be a film worthy of the character and Mythos of Thor. Regrettably it falls short. Once again non-white, non-straight, non-male takes the front
seat. You'll see this very clearly when That Rocky fellow tells of his two gay Dads and how he himself is gay. Nothing wrong with being gay. Nothing wrong with being female or black. But having that as a surreptitious theme in a kids film makes that insidious & disingenuous. For that I have no respect for Disney. Let people decide. Stop ramming this woke "you must think like this" down the viewers throat.
Moonfall (2022)
Enjoyable big budget B-Movie
Its a by the numbers disaster movie that is actually quite enjoyable to watch. Is the story original? Not really. Is the acting award winning? Definitely
Not. Should you leave your brain at the door when you. Watch it? Most definitely yes.
It doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is : A fun utterly daft scifi disaster movie.
Watch it. Enjoy it.
Peacemaker (2022)
Very Entertaining Live action comic tv show
Lots of reviewers are looking too in depth at this show. Remember it's a live-action comic book. It's supposed to be over the top and fantastical.
Yes there's a lot of violence. Yes there's a lot of swearing. Yes there's a CGI Eagle that deserves it's own show !
It's funny , poignant, gross & gory - but fans of any comic genre will love this.
And that pay off line towards the end of the last episode is just perfect.
And the soundtrack Rocks!!!! \m/
Watch it. Love it & Be Your own Peace maker.
( Eagle BFF optional)
Trigger Point (2022)
Almost unwatchable.
Episode 1 was fine. We are introduced to the characters. The story unfolds. All good so far....
What happens next is a sequential degradation of acting, plot and script. By the penultimate episode the characters are so ridiculous you just don't care if they make it or not.
Main Character and the actress who played her is especially painful to watch. Found myself hoping she'd cut the wrong wire many times.....
Avoid. There's much better out there to invest your time in.
Chicago Fire: Dead Zone (2021)
Poorly researched cyber attack plot
A standard episode with a cyber attack / ransomware element that , from the district lack of understanding, shows said writers did no basic research into crypto-based ransomware attacks. Marking this ep down to a 3.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa (2022)
Kidz on Scooters?!?
Utter utter crud of an episode. I'm giving this some stars for Danny Trejo & The Rancor.
The rest of this ep was just horrible. Wealthy bored cyberpunk street kids on their brightly coloured scooters?!
Was this ep sponsored by google??
Let's agree this didn't happen ok?
"Move along... Move along ..."
Superman & Lois: Pilot (2021)
Horrible horrible horrible
Casting choices are all wrong here. "Superman" looks like a skinny dweeb in a muscle suit. Lois Lane? Someone get her some food! And the teenagers? Urgh. Bad plot. Bad acting. Terrible even for a show based on comic book characters.
Red Notice (2021)
Moderately entertaining but ultimately a poorly executed mess.
Predictable twists.
Dwayne Johnson plays himself.... Again.
Gal Gadot, as usual, relies on her looks to get her through her scenes due a severe lack of acting ability.
Ryan Reynolds plays Family- Friendly Deadpool... again.
The Spanish/British villain decided to deliver his lines as Albous Dumbledoor.
It's a hot mess of a film. Barely watchable. Ok if you have absolutely nothing better to do.
Infinite (2021)
Watchable but flawed
Reincarnated guy who's sick of being reincarnated invents a gun and bullet that stops you from being reincarnated.
Doesn't use it on himself but instead tries to kill all life with an Easter egg.
Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)
Let's erase Bill & Ted. Avoid at all costs.
I love Alex Winter & Keane Reeves. I'm a big fan of their works but why did they agree to this Utterly terrible film? I grew up in the 90's and loved the Bill & Ted films. Funny, enjoyable with great music. This film was clearly made with the female empowerment agenda in mind. Erasing male characters like this is soulless and painfully common. Avoid.
F9 (2021)
Watchable but completely Over the top sci-fi nonsense
I genuinely like watching the Fast & Furious movies but each has got progressively worse I'm sad to say. Of course each new film has to outdo the previous but this one has gone too far in my humble opinion. The inclusion of the impossible electromagnetic devices , that the ridiculous plot relies heavily upon, puts this film squarely into the "Sci-fi" / Action movie category which is a shame. It's watchable , even at the extra long runtime , but I think this spells the middle of the end for the Fast & Furious....
Without Remorse (2021)
Predictable standard action movie
I'll admit this OK but don't set your expectations high. It's predictable and not well scripted. There's better films of this genre out there but who cares it's free with your prime subscription right? 4 out of 10.
Thunder Force (2021)
Enjoyable family rated comedy
It's fine. You'll laugh. There could have been more jokes but you'll enjoy it nonetheless. I do think an R-rated version would have been soooo much funnier but hey.... you get what your given right?
SAS: Red Notice (2021)
How does she still get roles?
Avoid this. Ruby rose is the anti-Midas. Everything she's involved in turns to s**t. Watching her deliver lines like a 2 dimensional automaton is painful. Paper has more depth than her acting ability.
Hold the Dark (2018)
Atmospheric but disjointed.
Flawed and disjointed. Seems to be a supernatural thriller but it decends slooooowly into a confused mess of killing, the reasons for which are never explained. Films ends with no answers. Avoid.
Colossal (2016)
A pointless confused mess
Really wanted to like this film but I'm sorry to say I found it a confusing mess of ideas. Strong actors can't save this movie. A waste of your time. Shame really. At least everyone got paid....
The 2nd (2020)
Shockingly Bad.
Terrible script. Terrible acting. Terrible everything. You'd enjoy licking a 9V battery more.
The Undoing (2020)
Urgh.... Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman has had so much Botox you can only tell she started acting by when she physically moves. This is a well made , well written show with pace. But Nicole Kidman's Botox-face is just irritating. How can you act a scene when you only have A single permanent slightly confused scowl for a face? She ruined this for me.
The Last Thing He Wanted (2020)
A Slow , laborious watch....
Even with the solid casting this was Pointless painfully slow film. I actually felt aggravated by the end of this. just avoid this one.
The List of Adrian Messenger (1963)
My Dad met all the stars in a local pub during filming
Not a review - just thinks it's cool that when this was being made my Dad met them all in the Peltham Arms (Greenwich , London UK )
On the Rocks (2020)
Lacks a certain something...
It's a typical Sophia Coppola Film in that the finished story is gentle and sedate (a pace & tone very similar to Lost in Translation) but that's it. That's all you get. The story is not really one worth telling & therefore not worth watching. (In my opinion only, of course).
The only saving grace is Bill Murray. He delivers standard comedy 'Bill' and so without him this film really deflates to a well made waste of time I'm sorry to say.
