9-1-1: Lone Star (2020)
Some characters don't get enough screen time
First of all, I only recently binged all four seasons. This after first binging all seasons of the original 9-1-1 (which I ended up loving)
So when I started this, I felt really sad and was essentially mourning all the characters I left behind on 9-1-1. It just wasn't the same.
It took me probably half a season or more for some of them to grow on me.
In the first season, Liv Tyler's character hogged the storylines. Sorry your sister is missing, but does it need to be a whole season thing.
When I started season 2 (never read spoilers) I found out she was replaced by Tommy (Gina Torres) and I love Gina Torres. She brought so much light and energy that Michelle just couldn't.
The characters that really started to grow on me: Marjan (total bad a##!!!), Paul, Tommy, and of course Judd.
I thought TK and Carlos were super boring. Just a happy couple the whole time. I wish they would have found a reason to move to New York to be with Gwyn long before her passing. And to be there to watch TK's baby brother grow up!! Jonah was forgotten about. If TK loved his mom as much as he'd expressed the entire 4 seasons, he would have made more efforts to be there for her new baby.
Rob Lowe as Owen was okay. Just basically picture Chris from Parks and Rec (enthusiasm toned down) but health but still there. And he's a fire captain. Rob Lowe being Rob Lowe. Not much to see here.
Special shout out to the Texas wildfire episode. I just about cried when I saw Buck, Hen, and Eddie (though I also find his character slightly boring, too) I was hoping for more crossovers, maybe one where Bobby and Owen interact.
Then there was one final crossover where we got to see the lovely Angela Bassett's Athena!!! That came as a surprise and delight to me. She was is one of my favorite characters and her sassy one-liners for her arrests always get me.
Anyway, I give this a 7/10. Some fun characters, similar entertainment in the 911 calls and danger. But I don't remember seeing intense nail-biter episodes like 9-1-1 had with the earthquake, Bobby/Athena's ship, etc.
Abbott Elementary: Mom (2023)
Solid episode
This was a solid episode, from start to finish. It was really fun seeing Ava giddy over Jacob's magic show in the cold open.
Not a ton of Melissa in this ep, but her reactions to Jacob's magic tricks were priceless.
The B-plot Greg small talk thing with Shanae was also pretty hilarious and cute. The delivery of "We stopped serving almonds at 7:08" made me laugh. It was nice to see them connect at the end over baseball.
Ava only stays at 5-star hotels, but they are 6-stars once she walks in. Classic Ava.
"Step one: have a daughter. Step two: play the long game."
For Janine's plot, it was really nice to see everyone so proud of her for taking a "girl trip" for herself, especially Barbara. It was moving to see Barbara try and protect Janine from her mom suddenly visiting because she needed something. It sort of made me think of that Fresh Prince episode where Uncle Phil comforted Will because his dad let him down.
Can't wait to see where this bond between them goes.
Clifford (1994)
I think it's hilarious
I grew up watching this movie and see nothing wrong with it like many of these poor reviews.
I love Martin Short and he proves to be hilarious even in his facial expressions (i.e. The "look at me like a human boy" bit)
There are so many other hilarious bits, like all the stolen items from the airport. The whole scene on the airplane itself when Clifford has his arms spread out and smacks people on the backs of their heads.
The dinner party stuff. Swapping out lipstick for Martin's lip balm.
Clifford gleefully watching the topless tribe while eating donuts. The party he threw.
If everyone could just get over themselves a little and enjoy a classic Martin Short film, you'd probably realize you're laughing and enjoying yourself.
I rated this a 10/10. I think it's more like a 7 or 8, but I rated it higher to do my small part for society and balance out the bad ratings.
You're welcome!!
Nashville (2012)
Hot Garbage
This show is cringe and I can't believe it wasn't on during the daytime.
Some of the storylines are so far-fetched.
Like when Maddie discovers Deacon is her biological father. She immediately forms a personal texting relationship with him. Even starts calling him "dad" almost right away. Wouldn't really happen in real life.
But don't get me started on Maddie. Her character is THE WORST. Super whiney and annoying B in the later seasons. I would rate higher than a 5 if they had killed her character off.
There is maybe only one redeemable, not annoying character and that is Will. The rest are insufferable and whiney.
Ugh. Trash show. I feel dumber for have watched it.
The Good Fight (2017)
Wild ride
I was drawn to this because of Christine Baranski (without ever seeing The Good Wife), but stayed for Sarah Steele as Marissa.
On paper this looks like your run of the mill law show, but it's a whole lot more than that. It's super weird at times but also funny. Heavily political for most of its run. If you lean mostly right, you won't really like this.
Christine Baranski is an icon and was really fun to watch. I am quite sad I finished it already.
Now I am starting The Good Wife. Somehow, Christine Baranski aged in the opposite direction after this. I'm hoping to see her character evolve from what seems to be one-dimensional at this point in TGW.
Scotland, PA (2001)
Rock Block
This movie is dope. Probably my all-time favorite movie.
America's Sweethearts (2001)
A very good movie, I loved it!!
I loved America's Sweethearts. I saw it opening weekend with some friends of mine, and we all loved it. It had a lot of funny parts in it. If you are looking of a way to cheer up, see America's Sweethearts. You will laugh at the funniest parts in this film. I hope it is number one this weekend, a whole lot of people saw it in this smaller-town theater, so it just might be!!
