Dark Matter (2015)
An amazing show!
This show is so amazing! The characters are so lovable (my favorite character is 5) and the stories are so interesting- sometimes it seems like dull military sci-fi but the worldbuilding and character development is beautiful. I just wish that this show could have continued, it could be dark and depressing at times, but most of the time it was really fantastic and fun! If you like sci-fi with good characters and good ideas, definitely watch this!
A Wrinkle in Time (2018)
A beautiful and creative movie!
I LOVE this movie, I don't see why people don't like it. Maybe it's not perfect to the book and I wish so much wasn't left out, but this really brought the creative story to life in such a vivid way... watching this movie is like being in a dream, with happy moments and sad moments, and an all around sense of wonder. This movie has such a amazing style and a fantastic cast- it's like a rare gem of a movie, I wish more people appreciated this, and I wish they had done the sequels too. But this film is very powerful with a really nice message- honestly, this is one of my favorites.
Terra (2007)
Beautiful movie, fantastic story, one of my favorites ever!!!
This movie is beautiful! One of the sweetest, saddest, most spectacular sci-fi movies I have seen- I don't usually like war things as much, but this was amazing! I LOVE the worldbuilding with both the Terrians and the humans, it felt very natural and creative- also a very sweet friendship and an amazing main character. I like how it was mostly from non-human perspectives too, unlike Avatar where it's a human trying to fit in, I actually liked this version even better since here the main character is not the human guy, but a non-human girl. (and also, it's always good when the main character is a girl and not a love interest or with sexism) And a cute robot too! This movie has fantastic character development and it's visually pretty too. It's a sad movie in lots of ways and very dramatic, but it's so beautiful and I wish there was more!!! Absolutely wonderful and fun, with a complicated message- I wish more people watched this!
Passengers (2016)
I was so excited for this story, but...
I was so excited when I heard about this movie- a love story set on a generation ship, 2 people woken from suspended animation too soon! Also that spaceship is beautiful and the actors are too. This seemed like a really creative story, and I mean, it is- but I still couldn't enjoy it because the "love story" was actually extremely creepy- it's a very one sided and misogynistic romance and that plot really ruins the movie. If they had them both woken up by accident it would have been much better, but as it is it's just a guy being creepy and getting away with it, he ruined her life. I'm very disappointed in this, it could have been so good.
Roketto gâru (2007)
I LOVE THIS!!!!!
Really, this is amazing! It's so hard to find a realistic sci-fi space travel anime, especially one about teenage girls like me, so I LOVE THIS. Most shows like this are about generic adult men, so it's just such a breath of fresh air to be able to actually relate to the characters.
All 3 main characters are teenaged girls, and NOT as love interests to boys like in a lot of anime- in fact there is none of that, and the show focuses on their friendship and actually isn't sexist- so yeah, this is a fantastic show! It's very realistic modern day style space travel, but the best part of this show is the AMAZING character development. My favorite character is Matsuri, and I love how creative and unique this show is- definitely one of my favorites! I only wish this went on for longer, it's so heartwarming and sweet. And just SO cute too!!!!!!!!!!! One thing I didn't like though was how sexualized the characters were in a lot of episodes- this isn't really in the story at all, so its annoying whenever that comes up- also a few stereotypes which are very old fashioned and dated, and offended me. But most of the show is fantastic with amazing characters and space travel- I wish it was more well known and that they made more!
Jupiter Ascending (2015)
This movie has like EVERYTHING you would want
No seriously, this movie has, like, EVERYTHING. A lot of it seems to be taken from other movies (or fanfiction or something) and it can definitely be too much at times, but honestly I loved this so much! The story was really imaginative and it's beautiful. Sometimes the writing is silly but I like how dramatic and creative it can be too. Also the protagonist is a woman and not a stereotype, and then there's this dog dude who is actually pretty hot. (This totally reminds me of a fanfiction but in a good way)
Anyway, this movie is a lot of fun and a step in the right direction. I love classic sci-fi, especially when it's more feminist like in this movie. I also like how it's a mix of sci-fi and fantasy and normal life- so yeah, I loved this movie! Maybe it's not the right movie for everyone but I wish more people would give it a chance. It had everything I would want, anyway.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Boring but Beautiful Story!
This movie is beautiful. At first I didn't want to watch it but I'm glad I did! But just to warn you, this movie is really, REALLY depressing. There are fun moments too and the story is very moving but its hard to watch. I sobbed when watching the final scene. But the movie is boring at times, especially the parts where its just this old guy alone on a dead Earth. The parts on the spaceship are really cool and feel like a lot of sci-fi but with a twist. Visually, the movie is really beautiful, both the landscapes on Earth and some of the best space scenes and spaceships ever. I love the acting and some of the ideas, its also nice that the crew is more diverse but I wish that one character hadn't been killed off it just felt so random and that was a bad choice I think. But I love the story and the romance and a lot of the emotions of the characters- the actors in the movie are amazing and I love that the theme of the movie is about kids and parents. The best part of the movie is the young girl Iris who gives a amazing performance and I love the portrayal of a nonverbal girl- sort of sad that this was ruined in a twist that I did see coming, but it was a beautiful twist for both the daughter and the father anyway. And come on, George Clooney as a Depressed Dad is just too cute. So I loved those parts and I wish he could get to know his daughter more. But also I like that the movie doesn't just center around the men and that Iris is her own character after all so its better than a lot of sci-fi movies that way. I just wish it had a happier ending but its a very powerful movie and I'm still thinking about it.
