Descendants 2 (2017)
Really Disappointed:(
The premise for the movie is exciting: Uma and her crew planning to over Aradon because they were abandoned. It's sad to say that I was rooting for the bad guys to win not because of their edgy nature, but because they had more plot motivation tion than the other characters.
Can we please talk about the music? Bland lyrics, decent beats, but absolutely horrible vocal mixing! Seriously, it's like they did one take and thought extreme use of autotune was the answer to everything. The only song I jammed to was Uma's "What's My Name". Otherwise, the others were forgettable.
I really liked the costume and set design. Is a bit cheesy? Sure, but it's in good taste.
What really killed this movie was the plot. A couple of storylines could've been abandoned or expanded upon. For Chad, if we could've seen his taste for the throne pushed into vengeance rather than using a 3D printer to live out his fantasy, that would've been more interesting. Carlos and Jane were cute, but we never got a chance to see where the spark started. It felt thrown together for the sake of him finding a lover. Maybe focusing on him and his "man's best friend" would've been enough.
Towards the end it really disappointed me that all it took to relieve Ben from the spell was a kiss. That one I let slide, but to top it all off, all it took was for Ben to jump in the water, say a few words, and Uma would just walk away? No, just no. Uma is fighting not only for her crew, but for the people on the Lost Isle. I don't believe for a second a couple of words would squash the anger built inside her for years.
Can we talk about that fight scene?? Actually unbelievable. No, really. It was unbelievable. Obviously this is a Disney movie, not James Bond, but still. Who do you guys think you're fooling? Evie, a dainty girl who loves heels and dresses could take on brutal swordsmen? Carlos, a cute scruffy boy could go head-to-head with a big brute? Ben, the kind prince slashing a sword at a bloodthirsty son of Hook? If everyone else had a different role in the fight like the smoke bombs or using a distraction, rather than flailing a sword around, then this neverending scene would make more sense.
The actors overall did a great job. I personally loved the pirate crew lead by China Anne McClain and Thomas Doherty. The main cast delivered their lines well also. The script, however, could've been so much better.
