Albert Nobbs (2011)

Beautiful film
7 October 2011
I saw this film at the Mill Valley Film Festival Opening last night and I thought it was an amazing piece. Luckily I didn't have an preconceived notions about the film. I hadn't heard anything about it which for me is always the best way to go into a film. I always set high standards for any film that Glen Close is a part of and she definitely met that expectation and then some.

Visually, Albert Nobbs had a fairy tale feel to it. I would say it was an atypical film without political agenda. A simple but highly intelligent story full of life and character detail. I would like to see this again. I have a feeling that in a second screening I would see so many new things that are so subtle in the first viewing.

Glen Close transformed completely. It was dazzling to watch. I was captivated by her face and her mannerisms. I would highly recommend this film to friends. A must see!

Three Veils (2011)

Great Film
11 April 2011
I saw Three Veils at the San Francisco International Film Festival 2011. The theater was completely packed. There wasn't a seat open and the people waiting out in the street were turned away. It was a great crowd of film viewers and the film did not let us down. Three Veils examined the lives of three very interesting Muslim women trying to navigate the Cultural challenges in their lives. I found it to be an eye opening experience. There were so many moments of lightness and humor. I found this humor interesting because the issues that were being discussed are very much about the dark side of humanity. My congratulations to the filmmakers for creating a rich experience. This film gave me a better understanding of the lives of women in a culture I don't know.

Marie Antoinette-Artful and Intimate
10 November 2006
Sofia Coppola has directed a masterpiece concentrating on the quiet intimacies of the last royals before the French Revolution. Shot beautifully with an endless parade of amazing costumes, there were very few negatives I would attach to the film. Kirsten Dunst is tantalizing and it is difficult to take your eyes away from her every movement. Jason Schwartzman is quiet, intelligently boring and perfectly cast for King Louis XVI. Sofia adds an contemporary edge to the film through music and language but this doesn't upset the delicate nature of preserving the characters integrity. Hats off to Sofia Coppola. I loved this film.

If you love art, fashion, or are interested in the elaborate and intimate nature of the eighteenth century French Royals, you will love this film.
