Seriously not bad
9 June 2012
I've probably given it a slightly generous rating and that's probably thanks to the music, I'm so pleased that there is finally a teen musical movie that has kids in it that can act and sing. Not the whiny voices Disney keeps trying to tell us we like but ones you might even consider buying an album of (without 3 weeks of whining from the pre-teen in your life). Admittedly they probably wouldn't win Idol off their own backs but they can sing, just have a listen to Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars) in the opening.

The plot and supporting characters can seem a bit flimsy at times but to be honest, who really watches these types of films and expects them to win an Oscar?

Definitely worth 88 minutes of your life. Preferably with a tub of Ben & Jerry's and your most comfortable PJs

A film that gets you 'right there'
21 June 2008
I was recommended this film by a friend after she heard me remark that I was sick of run of the mill romances. She warned me of two things; that I'd need a great deal of Kleenex at the end and that the film would never leave me. She was right on one count, I don't think I'll ever forget this film but it didn't make me cry. By the time the film came to it's climax I was so vested in the characters that it would have been wrong to shed hollow tears, instead I felt the kind of physical heartbreak that normally only comes with seeing your own love life crumble then as it all came together at the end, my spirits soared. I gave the picture 10/10 simply because of all the emotions it evokes, something modern films seem to miss. This is a must see for any girl with a Cinderella complex or anyone with a heart for that matter. Just be warned, you'll be smiling for years every time you think of it.

BTW Just in case you're thinking I'm a golden oldie myself, I'm 22. Just proves films like this one don't have either a shelf life or an age limit. =)

Love it but it wont win any awards
10 January 2008
I would like to say to everyone that's been blasting this program, it's TV! If you want your view to be challenged, something that will make you question your existence, read a book, pick up a paper! TV is mainly for entertainment. If you want to learn something, watch the discovery channel, don't watch a prime time show and then moan about how bad it was. We know it's like the O.C, that's exactly how I described it to a friend of mine ("you've gotta watch it, think O.C meets friends"). The show has been written for a certain demographic and guess what? That demographic loved the O.C, they love Smallville and the love every other paint by numbers show out there, myself included. It's a winning formula, Beautiful settings, great wardrobe, an under dog to root for (Dan), actors older than the character so girls in their 20's can gaze free from sin and 'older' characters played by younger actors so we can gaze longingly at them as well (FYI Rufus, Lily and Eleanor are all 39, 39 and 47 respectively. Perfectly old enough to have 17 year old children).

It's a formula that works, why mess with it? I, for one, am really enjoying it. It's funny, well written and I can't wait for the strike to end so I can see more.
