The Aviator (2004)
Martin's Best film
Scorsese gives us a lot more than the Charles Foster Kane of the clouds. He keeps focus on Hughes, the dreamer, who continually reached out, grabbed the future and pulled it toward him. Bringing Hughes' life to the big screen was a task for giants. The film doesn't feel like an Scorsese movie, it has an audacious editing, homaging the Hollywood era it takes place on. DiCaprio and Blanchett are simply spectacular.
Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)
Classic Cinema!
Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Amelie is one of those once-in-a-decade comedies which scatters its charm like pearls from a broken necklace, all the more adorable because they are not real. I wish they made more films like this nowadays: magical and heartwarming.
Death of a Fool (2020)
If you love mysteries...
I've always enjoyed mystery movies and this one had me guessing every 5 minutes what the next turning point would be. A captivating cast and an unexpected ending made it truly enjoyable for my family and I.
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)
Wow..just wow
This is one of the best movies I've seen in the past 5 years. I checked out other films from the director after this one and he has an incredible collection. Highly recommend it!
No Country for Old Men (2007)
It doesn't get better than this
This is just a masterpiece of filmmaking and storytelling. The Coen Brothers know how to keep you at the edge of your seat with a slow-pace building conflict that will conclude with irony and relief.
