Leave the World Behind (2023)
Trash - and I understood it fine, thank you
So many reviews here saying people who didn't like this movie didn't "understand" it. We understood - the entire concept was blatantly shoved down our throats from the beginning. All that blatant advertising had to be part of the plot cos it was glaring you in the face the entire time. Brands of cigarettes & junk food, and Jenga, Tesla, Nasa, Obey.
The ending didn't seem abrupt to me - the movie was cramming it's message down your throat the entire time. If anything, the ending was decent and tied it up. It wasn't about the apocalypse at all. It was about being fine to sit out the end of the world (no, the end of America, cos we all hate America and ganged up on them) cos you can fester and rot in the very things that brought you to this point.
And there was barely any Kevin Bacon! He's part of the reason I watched it in the first place. Would've been fine if I'd actually enjoyed the movie.
Anyway, watch if you fancy watching what seems like a long, drawn out play with a very clear message being rammed down our very stupid throats.
Scream (2022)
Disappointed...
I enjoyed this on a whole, but it was also really disappointing. I loved the original, and I thought things were getting good again after Scream 4, but this felt like a let down. I did like that they didn't go easy on the "gore" though.
Also, is it just me, or with Billy having a daughter, could they not have made Ritchie be Stu's son? I expected that the entire movie - that would have made this movie so much better. I feel like it was a total missed opportunity! Especially after the start, when Tara answered Ghostface's question and said Billy was the killer and made no mention of Stu! It could've been Ritchie's motive for everything! Sure, it also would've been stupid...but we were already at that point so why not go all the way?
Nope (2022)
I loved it
I don't know why everyone on here disliked this so much - I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was fun and scary and had some really funny moments. I went in with no real expectations except that it was Jordan Peele, and I adored Get Out (and liked Us...except for the ending...but it was great before that!). So yeah - this was a little different and a fun ride. And the acting was spectacular, but it course it was going to be with this cast. I quite enjoyed the sectioning too, which I wouldn't have thought.
My only "complaint" would be what they did toward the end...bit of a bizarre look going on there...parachute jellyfish? But it was also different and interesting and so I just went with it.
The story kinda reminded me of the Stephen King short story "The Raft", but in the sky. And I love that story so I found this really entertaining.
I think sometimes people just like to hate on things. There's definitely some underlying themes and points here, but it's also just an entertaining movie. Stop looking for things to complain about and just enjoy the ride.
Why Are You Like This (2018)
Spoilt brats
You'll love it if you like watching spoiled brats being cruel and vacuous.
I thought it'd be fun and joyful, but everyone was a self-obsessed jerk. Maybe they realise they're awful as the show continues, and learn to be decent people? I wouldn't know because I couldn't make it past the first episode.
Also, the Jonbenet drag queen was in poor taste. Incredibly poor taste.
Venom (2018)
Awesome
I didn't expect this movie to be so funny! Funny, entertaining, violent, and with the beautiful Tom Hardy. A totally unexpected treat.
Dahmer on Dahmer: A Serial Killer Speaks (2017)
Disgraceful piece of trash
The journalist in this ruins any credibility. I didn't get through 10mins. I expected an actual documentary, not something that feels like a scripted reality show with snippets of an old interview with him. If I want to watch trash, I'll watch it.
And the passive aggressiveness against his father....his father wanted to be interviewed with sunglasses because he thought it'd make him less recognisable. True it wouldn't have made a difference, but letting him do that then giving a passive aggressive dig - "in his mind, it'd make him less identifiable"....disgraceful.
Also, apparently she was asked if she was afraid of him. Jeffery Dahmer killed men..and she was in a protected environment.
Saying it's dramatised us inappropriate because he killed a lot of people. But this is not a documentary...this is a journalist promoting herself.
Incredibly disappointed.
