Star Trek: The City on the Edge of Forever (1967)
The greatest episode of a science fiction show ever
The acting, writing, and direction are all phenomenal. The concept is heartbreaking and intriguing. There are fundamental philosophical and ethical questions that are posed. It's brilliant. Just watch it. Even if you know nothing about Star Trek you will come away fascinated by this.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Visitor (1995)
The greatest commentary on the father-son relationship in media
Warning: If you watch it, you will cry. Absolutely brilliant acting by Brooks and Todd here, and it delves into a relationship that is sadly not given its just due in most forms of media.
The West Wing: The Supremes (2004)
Stupid and Pretentious-classic sorkin
In the liberal mindset, getting a conservative on the court because she is "brilliant" is more important than actually furthering your ideological agenda. This so is so obnoxious in its pseudo-intelligence that it almost makes you believe this decision makes sense, until you think logically for more than 2 seconds. For a show with such a sense of self-importance, you would think that they would have sent the script in for revisions. I hope that the women who can no longer get abortions in this universe appriciate that at least the judge was a genius!
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Secret Box/Band Geeks (2001)
The 10 is for Band Geeks, but tSB is an underrated gem
Band Geeks is the best episode of a comedy in the past 20 years. Its funny, heartfelt, and epic all in 11 minutes.
TSB is good too, not bad enough to warrant the flawless masterpiece of Band Geeks getting lowered from a 10. Long live squidward.
Game of Thrones: The Winds of Winter (2016)
Clunky Mess
Why is this the highest rated GOT episode? Do people really like big booms that much? No great dialogue, no plot development, no subtlety of the earlier seasons. Not to mention it looks worse in hindsight because the consequences of this episode are never touched upon.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
If I could describe it in one word, it would be "dissappointing"
In more words, it would be: The writers were so far up their own buttocks that they actually thought any of their choices were clever. Never again will a TV show have the talent, crew, story, and every other element needed to succeed only to fail so spectacularly.
