9-1-1 (2018)
Pedantic, trite, derivative, plagiristic...
There is nothing about this show that is of any merit. It consists of recycled plots from other shows, impossible situations, stolen ideas/storylines, and is -2 S. D. IQ pabulum. My wife watches it while I am in the room. This show is frighteningly horrible with "manufactured" sociological settings that mimic current political headlines. It is difficult to be exposed to this show and I feel less intelligent every time it is on the television. There is no attempt to disguise the social engineering occurring at every opportunity. When the "media" has a chance, it injects its politics, religious bias, views on divisive topics and its overall lack of common sense into every show. This show ranks up in my top 10, "Worst Shows Ever!" I finally felt compelled to write this review when I overheard this show using a modified version of "A Fistful of Dollars" soundtrack song. I wonder if anyone bothered to pay the royalties to Ennio Morricone?
The Greatest Hits (2024)
Pitiful Pabulum
As I get older, I find more movies, commercials, ad nauseum using the music of my youth to send a "message." When I was a child in the late 1960's and discovered music, I attached memories to that music. Now, for example, I have to turn off a diarrhea commercial when it uses a song from the 1970's. I really want to watch a hemorrhoid commercial that uses a "Taylor Swift" song instead of a classic rock, blues or R&B song. It is intellectual laziness on the part of advertisers, Hollywood, and the entire entertainment industry. My final example of what used to be entertainment is a great movie. I re-watched "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid" the other night. There was an obscure actor named Bob Dylan in that movie. He wrote and sang most of the soundtrack. "Knocking on Heaven's Door", to me, is the scene where Slim Pickens is dying after being shot by Billy, not some car commercial from Peugeot. I would love to be around when this generation gets to watch a commercial for heartburn to the tune of Miley Cyrus...
Retreat (2011)
Boring, Formulaic and Reductive
I had to Fast Forward after the first 15 minutes. Every time I stopped, the "action" was predictable and cliche. Of course the "surprise ending" was no surprise. This was another one of those "Diversity Inclusion and Equity" movies that have become de rigueur. I would really like to see a return to movies of the type that Hammer Films used to make. Simple, thoughtful plot, great actors, and realistic settings. The post-modern movies of about 1995 and later are lamentably unwatchable and characterize recent social and political trends. If you want to be unsurprised and sit through another bore-fest, this movie is for you!
Dead in the Water: A Fear the Walking Dead Story (2022)
Complete Trash
In a real-world environment the Captain of the Submarine would shoot that idiot (Nick Stahl) and that would be the end of it. Mutiny is not acceptable and this "woke" joke show is useless.
Redeeming Love (2022)
Some thoughts should stay in your head and never make it to print.
"REDEEMING LOVE is a powerful story of relentless love."
Isn't that called stalking? So we have a movie about a man that will not "give up" on a prostitute. Sounds creepy and desperate to me. I am shocked he didn't shoot her pimp as icing on the creepy cake...
I Drink Your Blood (1971)
Bill and Hillary, the early years.
I love horror movies. This one is just horror porn. Imagine Old Yeller mixed with Cujo... IMDB says my review is too short so I have this advice, watch it like you are watching Rifftrax or MST3K. Nothing redeeming about this movie.
La orgía de los muertos (1973)
I love this style of horror movie.
Atmospheric, slow-paced, and immersive. The color and lighting lends itself to setting a background of horror, suspicion, and fear. These movies are from a time when the script and acting had to carry the movie. This has a mediocre script but the actors and the director make this a must-watch for fans of this genre.
Wind River (2017)
One of the best movies I have seen in years!
This movie moved me in a way that Hollywood has not done in years. I will not leave a spoiler but I will state that this movie will elicit emotions that some people may find disturbing.
Krigen (2015)
Great fiction. History will judge.
This was a good movie. I really do not understand though how a bunch of über-liberal civilians back in København can judge a man that saved his troops in a useless war. Current events show that there was no 'will to win' and that most of the country either were Taliban, or supported the Taliban. Very messy ending to a pointless war.
As a footnote, the U. S. and the U. K. killed hundreds of thousands of civilians in WWII in Europe and Asia. Dresden, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Tokyo, Berlin come to mind? Not. One. Conviction. Of any bomber pilots.
Katla (2021)
Exceptional Psychology Study
This series is an excellent study in forgiveness, redemption, betrayal, loss, love, and so much more. It was a glimpse into the most private and personal thoughts and emotions concerning divorce, adultery, disabilities, grief, alcoholism, and reconciling one's mistakes in life. I await season 2 as I am sure that there will be more to explore. The "science/fantasy" aspect of the show's setting should not dissuade one from watching this fantastic offering from Netflix!
Black Space (2020)
Fantasy Murder Scenario
Nigh on 50 years and now we have someone writing their fantasies and producing a primer on "How-To." Israel does not need this garbage and it is a poorly thought out series. If, in fact, the shooters were "immigrants" then this only supports stopping unfettered immigration. For context, read the following quote.
"In the wake of the Ma'alot massacre in 1974, in which three armed members of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, took a school hostage, ultimately resulting in the deaths of 22 children, Israel enacted policies to protect school children from terrorism. While there have been terrorist attacks since 1974, there has never been a school shooting of the sort we are all too familiar with in the US."
Chicago P.D.: The Other Side (2021)
My wife forces me to watch this garbage...
So, a white police officer can be executed for shooting a black man in a previous episode "Protect and Serve" and it is "great television." Now, a white police officer executes a white suspect and it is "all good?" BTW, the premise that two white guys are trafficking is really sketchy. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics Reports, seventy-seven percent of victims in alleged human trafficking incidents reported in the U. S. were people of color. A more likely story-line would be women and children trafficked by someone of color. That, unfortunately, does not fit the political narrative of this "show."
Keep Calm and Bias On.
Ragnarok: Brothers in Arms (2021)
Just ignorant.
Danu Suntharasigamany as a Nordic Freya is as stupid as Brad Pitt playing Nelson Mandela. I was offended at the incredibly stupid casting of a Bollywood actress in a drama about Norwegian mythology. Maybe we should cast Adam Sandler as Ganesh? Talk about cultural appropriation...
Chicago P.D.: Protect and Serve (2021)
Anti-police garbage that is factually WRONG!
The "victim" in this episode is the viewer. A complete lack of honesty about Illinois gun laws and the actions of the police officer leads to a vigilante killing by a drug dealer. If this is great television I am going back to Gilligan's Island re-runs.
