Michael Jackson: Bad (1987)
Hammy acting
Jackson was a great singer and dancer but his acting style was theatrical and over the top. You can see that Wesley Snipes acting ability was several leagues better. Jackson's look also seems out of place compared to his colleagues and his poppy song doesn't fit in with the gritty vibe of the video. Michael Jackson was not a good actor at all.
The Accidental Prime Minister (2019)
Poor acting
The acting of Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna was so simplistic. Anupam Kher has played Manmohan Singh as if he was a scared child with the same expression in every scene and a ridiculous walk. Manmohan Singh is a soft spoken man but he is nothing like he was portrayed in this movie. Even though this was a serious movie for Bollywood standards it still had no subtlety in the way Manmohan Singh was portrayed. Likewise Akshaye Khanna also has limited expressions, he's literally got a silly grin in each scene that he is in.
The story is somewhat interesting in the beginning but drags in the second half.
La vita è bella (1997)
Boring with a cheesy lead character
I don't know how Benigni won the Oscar for best actor, his performance is theatrical and completely over the top. The first half of the film has almost nothing to do with the war and holocaust.
We're hardly shown any of the horrors that took place or the suffering that people went through.
Watch The Pianist instead.
Deadpool (2016)
Immature and boring
This is the type of movie I would have probably loved in my teenage years. It's full of silly jokes, over the top violence and nudity. However the plot is extremely basic. It's a revenge tale but you cannot take it seriously therefore you don't care what happens to the characters.
Sacred Games (2018)
Not a typical Indian show
This show is unlike any other Indian TV show. There's plenty of swearing, graphic violence and sex scenes. It's very gritty.
However that does not mean that the show is good. It's very slow moving, I'm 4 episodes in and still there is no clue as to what the big threat to Mumbai is.
If you primarily watch Indian shows and movies then this will be something new and exciting but otherwise it's nothing special.
Dunkirk (2017)
Quite dull
We watch war movies for the epic battles and the ones in this movie are flat and dull. The aerial dogfights are on a small scale and slow paced and the action on the beach is not realistic in the sense that bombs are dropped but there is no blood. I have no idea how they spent $150 million on this, the battles are too small to justify this. Movies from 20 years ago like Saving Private Ryan and Enemy at the Gates provide much more excitement and epic battle scenes. You're better off watching Pearl Harbour!
Oldeuboi (2003)
Two hours I'll never get back
I've heard about Old Boy for many years now but never got around to watching it. So I finally got the opportunity and was severely disappointed. It tries to be shocking just for the sake of it. The plot is nothing special and it left me disgusted with all of the incest involved. I couldn't root for any of the characters as their acting is too poor. Avoid is my advice, unless you like so called art cinema.
