Bermuda Island (2023)
terrible
I understand that films need to work to a budget, but you should spend what you have where it counts. Within the first two minutes and I am including company logos, I saw 2 movie lights in shop windows reflected and a crew member, this tells you how much effort has been put into this film.
The camera work is terrible, the lighting is flat, the acting is appalling and the script is awful, far too many characters. The film opens, we go from gun fight, to stock image of airport, to office doubling as airport for interior shots.
Tom Sizemore is hardily in it, just turned up for the day and cashed the cheque, and mumbles his way through it, obviously didn't learn the lines, that is how much effort has been put into this film from all concerned.
How films like these get financed is beyond me, Do not waste your time.
The Stranger (2022)
A good little British horror
I have seen my fair share of low budget horror films and a lot leave a lot to be desired, however, this horror is clearly on a budget (minimal actors, one major location) but it is better than most.
Following the death of her husband, the grieving proprietor of a small hotel finds her life turned further upside down after the arrival of a mysterious guest who won't leave.
A good little British horror, good camera work, great lighting, well worth a watch.
Good performances, especially from Damien Ashley help sell the horror of the actor's situation.
A good strong opening scene hooks you in and takes you for a good ride.
Look forward seeing what the film makers do next.
The Ghosts of Borley Rectory (2021)
time you will never get back.
The production company behind this film is the very definition of quantity over quality. As of Oct 2021, the director has 10 films in pre-production, film or post, with 3 out in 2021, and there are only 2 months of 2021 left.
This is a bad film, badly written, badly directed and badly shot, very similar to all their other films which can been seen on streaming sites. Funny for all the wrong reasons.
Avoid, don't waste your time.
Introspectum Motel (2021)
bad writing, worse direction
This film at time of writing has a 3.7 star rating which tells you everything you need to know. The writing of this film isn't very good, its very wooden, wordy and dull. The way this film was shot could have been a lot better, but i put that at the feet of the director. I think the director of this film wore too many hats, he co-wrote it, acted the main part in it, produced it and directed it, and because he is a jack of all trades, ruined it.
The movie is not shot with any style, which really lets down the more steamy sexy moments of the film, compare it to films like basic instinct or 9 and a half weeks, the sex scenes in this are very dull. The lead roles are quite wooden, and by the time the film is over you are so bored you don't care how the film ends. This is one to avoid.
Psycho (1960)
still love this film
I still love this film after all these years, the camera work is amazing, the performance are on point and the ending still holds up today, the 2nd film in the series isn't that bad either.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
This is such an improvement.
This edition, compared to the theatrical edition is such a vast improvement, it makes me sad that this isn't canon in the DC universe. Warners seems to have deaf ears towards this project and what the fans want.
Watch this over the theatrical cut!
Army of the Dead (2021)
Average Zombie film
I sat down to watch this the other night and my take away was that it felt just too long. Compared to the Dawn of the Dead film he made, this just doesn't quite live up to it.
It's not a bad film, it's an OK film with some good moments.
Dark Encounter (2019)
dull and lifeless.
Saw this on film 4 the other night. How did this make it onto film4? Slow burner? It is so dull and badly written. I kept thinking any moment now it will pick up, but it didn't. Nice camera work and lighting, but that doesn't make up for the bad writing, direction and endless clichés.
Haunted 3: Spirits (2018)
Bad, bad film.
Clearly been shot very quickly, more than likely in one night, technically these films are sub-par. When you see the writer/director/producer is throwing several films out a year tells you everything you need to know, quantity over quality. The acting is bad, the camera work is dire, the film is awful. Avoid.
