The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
What was it again that was supposed to be good about this movie???
Well, I rented this movie based on the fact that it had a good cast and above average reviews from "real" people and professional critics alike. Usually that combination of things turns up a movie that was at least entertaining. Sorry guys and gals, but this movie was garbage. As I sit here the following day typing this review pondering what it was that I watched, all that I am left with is the distinct feeling that there is a 2 hour time frame in my life that I cannot recall. I know this film took up that space, but this movie left me with nothing to remember it by. Hmmmmmmmmmm.............interesting.
Legends of the Fall (1994)
Great epic movie
I thought this movie was really good and cannot understand why it is only a 6.6 on IMDB at this time. I guess some people think it went on too long but I think that was a good thing with this movie. The story was engaging enough that it didn't get boring, and when it ended, you feel as though you really just glimpsed the entire lives of this family. Even if it is a tragic story 9/10
The Wicker Man (1973)
Older movie that is still good today.
Just got finished watching The Wicker Man and I have to say I enjoyed it. Having previously watched another movie from 1973 a week ago that I hated (Don't Look Now) I thought I was in trouble. However, when it was over I was glad I watched it. I wouldn't classify it as a horror movie though. More of a thriller/drama. Some people may find it a little slow, but I think that the little bits of frequent nudity kept me entertained. Even if they were girls from 1973. LOL Just kidding, it's worth a watch.
Don't Look Now (1973)
Don't look now......you just wasted a couple hours.
2,089 votes at the time of this writing and this movie is rated a 7.5!!?? WHAT!!!!!!!! I'm still sitting in awe as I type, pondering how BAD this movie was!! LOL I'm actually laughing because of some of the positive reviews I just read to justify my renting it. Yeah, Venice looked cool. I could have looked at a post card for 10 seconds and gotten the same idea. I just don't think I can take 1 thing from this movie and say it was good. Maybe back in 1973 this movie was considered alright, but if you put this into a theater now it would end up being the biggest flop ever seen. This movie just tries to create scary moods out of nothing. It just isn't scary or even much of a thriller. Those who rate this movie highly must be from that era and can't let go. Just let go......please........so I don't rent anymore rubbish...PLEASE!!!! I BEG YOU!!!!!
The reason I'm writing this review: "If I could help JUST ONE person to avoid this movie at all costs, then it would have been worth my time."

Mean Streets (1973)
Kind of boring
This movie maybe was good back when it was made, but as far as I can see this flick is just too out-dated. It just drags on, and you know something is going to happen, and when that thing happens it still isn't that BIG. I'll consider it a waste of a couple of hours and move on. Really not much I can take from the experience, except the fact that you shouldn't help someone that can't help themselves.
The Way of the Gun (2000)
Has it's moments
This movie has it's ups and downs. I would say it is just above average, not much more. Has some good shootout scenes and I liked some of the ideas the movie brought to the table but when it ended it didn't really leave me with anything, as it tries to do. I gave it a 6/10.
Six Ways to Sunday (1997)
Crazy flick
This is one of the weirdest movies I've seen, but I have to say that I liked it. It's definitely not for people who only like mainstream type movies. There is some "uncomfortable" (LOL) subject matter within this film, however, I always seem to find the humor in these things. Not a 10, has some plot holes and unbelievability, but I'd say it's worth a rent. As for me, I'll probably buy it.
The Boondock Saints (1999)
In my Top 10, if not Top 5
Such a good movie. The point of the movie is rather serious but the whole movie is hilarious!! There are just TOO many scenes that are classics to pick one as a favorite. Too bad all movies can't be as entertaining as this. Replay value galore. For the price you can get this DVD for, just buy it. Just some of the cameos alone were enough to put me on the floor laughing. Good music, good acting, good story, good ending.
Definitely a slick movie.

Unforgiven (1992)
Probably the best western ever filmed
I just finished watching this movie AGAIN and it reminded me just how good it is. This week, I watched Once upon a time in the west, the wild bunch, hang'em high, and the magnificent seven. I gues I was on a western kick. Then I watched Unforgiven and it is so high above these movies. The only reason I'm making this post is because of the people who discredit this movie because of the so-called "Hollywood Ending". This movie ended perfectly!!! Those of you who think otherwise have missed something HUGE about this movie and possibly many other westerns. The end is about the myth, the stigma, the aura, and the legend of a notorious cowboy/gunslinger who reverted back to the drink and to his old ways to slay the men who killed his friend. He is supposed to come away unscathed!!!!! The whole movie talks about how he was and how his wife cured him of his old ways, etc.. Then there is a reason for him to SHOW us who he was. It's not like they just threw in the ending for the hell of it.......................those who criticize this need to re-think their point-of-view. 10/10
A Beautiful Mind (2001)
great movie..............REALLY GREAT MOVIE??? not quite
This movie was very good. It told a pretty good story, and kept me interested right through. I agree with some other reviews on various topics that could have made the film a bit better, especially the guy that said they should have talked about or thought of something to put into the movie that depicted just how important his theories really were/are. This movie is definitely worth renting, however I can't say that it will be added to my DVD collection. For me, one viewing is most definitely enough. It was just missing something as far as labeling it in the same category as other classics.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Good movie.........but #1.... I don't think so...
First of all I am not a big fan of the fantasy movie stuff. I like it but I'm not a fanatic by any stretch of the imagination. I have read books like the Illiad and the Odyssey so this movie had some characteristics I was familiar with, but I had never read the Lord of the Rings books. I saw the movie last night, and I was impressed, but I didn't leave the movie theater in awe like so many people here seem to have. You want to rave about the character development?? Come on!! Every movie in history could have had just as much character development if they were to release a three hour movie with no end in sight until the release of the third part of it. THIS IS A NINE HOUR MOVIE!!!!!! NOTHING IS RESOLVED AT THE END OF THE FIRST EPISODE. You can't really compare this to other movies because this isn't like other movies. I mine as well read the book now to find out what happens, or I'll have to watch the first one again to refresh my mind before the second one comes out! Far too long......but I guess that was the only way to do it. Special effects were great, acting good, although I thought Sam and Frodo were going to start making out in some scenes. I think this movie can only be enjoyed by a certain type of person. That is what limits this movie. Movies like the Shawshank Redemption, which is in the top 5 movies here, appeal to a much larger audience which is why Shawhank is so superior.
The Assignment (1997)
Pretty good........I suppose.
I saw this movie last night and thought it was decent. It has it's moments I guess you would say. Some of the scenes with the special ops forces were cool, and some of the location shots were very authentic. I won't be putting this movie in my DVD collection but it is fair enough to recommend for renting. I guess nothing set the movie at another level compared to others of the same genre. The action is good, the acting is decent, the women are extremely seductive and exotic in my opinion, and the story is pretty interesting. 7 out of ten
The Score (2001)
One of the best heist movies I've seen!
Awesome movie. One of the best I have seen in awhile. This movie builds up so much tension right up until the end that it makes you want to rip your hair out!! All of the actors were really good, and the story was written well. Some people may think it takes awhile to develop, but at no point did I find the movie slow. It just keeps building and building until........ BOOM!!!! The climax of the movie unfolds and your just sitting there with a dumb look on your face saying HOLY S..T!!! That didn't just happen!! Definitely buying this one.
Jurassic Park III (2001)
The expected good special effects, thats it.
The only good thing about the movie is the dinosours and the atmosphere of some spots in the film, with the fog etc. Jurassic Park 3 falls in line just where it is supposed to. 3rd. The first two are definitely better. The characters in #3 are just totally annoying, and the sappy family reunion love story was enough to make me want to puke. In the first two movies, there were certain people that you just didn't want to see get eaten. In this one, it's just not the same.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Classic!!!
One of, if not the best movie ever made. A classic that will last forever. If you have not yet seen this movie, do yourself a favor and BUY it, don't rent it. This is a movie you should own. I'm not a person who only likes certain genres of film. I watch all kinds of different films and this is at the top.
