Evil (2019)
Evil done right
I really hope this lasts for 12 seasons and beyond. It's the BEST show in the horror, mystery, parapsychology, supernatural, and potentially even the crime genre. I could definitely see them expanding into the crime genre in the future, especially if a legal expert joins the team. This show is not afraid to explore all these genres with vivid storytelling.
So how does 12 seasons and beyond work? There are just so much stories to tell and so many characters to work with; for instance, they could do a chapter series on characters which last 7 episodes or more. I was always interested in Ben's character but my interest piqued after watching S02E01. I could see his faith vs logic story being explored in various forms, including Christianity and Islam. The Evilverse is teeming with opportunities to tell a good evil story.
I will be watching this regularly now that Manifest has been hijacked. Speaking of which, wouldn't that be such a cool story to tell on Evil? A possessed plane with possessed passengers who come back from the dead, or are still living?
Untitled Horror Movie (2021)
The title says it all - it doesn't know what it wants to be
What a pleasant surprise, but the movie has fundamental issues.
There was no background given whatsoever to the spell. There could have been 20-30 minutes allotted towards the spell's origins in Hollywood (perhaps a death of some other actor?), some other cities in the USA, or the entire world. There was so much room to use the spell for actual comedy instead of mashing comedy and tragedy and making tragedy look like comedy. With that being said, a huge lack of empathy for the unexpected death of Chrissy ruined it for me. I get that this is a horror comedy, but it's also a horror dramedy at the same time. Some of the actors knew Chrissy throughout their entire career. How do they go from showing so much emotion and fear when she was walking around her apartment to "she died due to an accident, let's go meet Bobbie?" - this was NOT funny.
Mortal Kombat (2021)
Poor, poor, poor
Why does everyone talk about Josh Lawson's middling performance? You might as well rename the movie's title to Adventures in the Outback with Josh Lawson, since >50% of the movie was filmed in the Australian desert, not to mention the fact that he supplied the plane to the Sky Temple in the Australian desert with an Australian pilot onboard.
This movie was terrible in every sense.
Daebakbudongsan (2021)
Awesome!
I can't help but express how I feel about this show after watching the first three episodes.
I'm hooked! I should have waited to finish the series, but it's just too good.
Manifest (2018)
God will save us
Oh my Goodness, how could they cancel this show? This show was one of the few TV series I invested in.
Netflix - if you're reading this, please invest in a season 4 thru 5, or 6, or 7, I will subscribe in advance!
And for all the haters out there, this TV show just isn't about the bible; it's about ALL religions (did you miss the scene with dragon and Dr. Gupta's connection?), it's about ALL mythologies (why is TJ in Egypt?), it's really about anything "IN THE AIR."
And ABOUT THE CALLINGS: The plane is the CONDUIT for all the connections & callings. The callings are an episodic part of the show; without the callings there is no emotional connection between the Manifest passengers. Zeke experiences callings as well, but it takes a different form since he wasn't a passenger.
Dinosaur Hotel (2021)
Didn't really enjoy my stay but...
A lot of plot holes, but this is definitely one of the better horror comedies I've seen in awhile. Oh, and the tiny raptors were so cute!
The mom's performance was great; she had great facial expressions. At first I thought she was Michelle Ang from FTWD because of her appearance and accent.
Amityville Vampire (2021)
What is this place?
Started off really well, but the film failed to the answer the question posed at the onset of the movie: "What is this place?"
And really, what is this place? How does the red moon lake tie into the legend of Amityvile? This film fails to answer that question!
Hoping Amityville Cop will be better.
616 Wilford Lane (2021)
Awesome work!
Seems like this movie is getting negative reviews from a lot of biased people who watched the first ten mins or don't rate indie-horror flicks at all.
The acting was believable, and the horror angle in the house was played out really well - the ghosts didn't speak, instead they wandered through other dimensions or just moved objects.
The possession angle with Staci could have been played better. Also, Cody's shotgun could have been used at the end because Staci insinuated that her mother wasn't the issue and she could live without her.
I think this film would have done much better financially if it was released under a bigger banner.
This was way better than the other movie I watched yesterday... uh, I think it's called "Mortal Kombat."
