The Fall of the House of Usher (2023)
Amazing retelling, Amazing acting, Loved it!
This show, man, I can't even begin to express how much I enjoyed it. The acting was great, the death scenes were interesting, the visuals were so unsettling. I have studied a lot of Poe's stories for my degree and how this was modernized was so well done!
There is just something with how it all came together, how you find out the reasoning at the end, though a bit sad of course, but some of the speeches on humans, their desires and wants, really diving into how much of a disease humans are to this world.
Even Verna, when she talks about how so much of life could be fixed so easily but greed prevents it, hits home because it's true, and sad.
I definitely recommend it.
Love, Death & Robots (2019)
Best. Series. EVER!
When I tell you that I was sceptical going into this anthology because ive been burned before (ABC's of Death, VHS series) but I enjoyed every moment of it! Each story was better than the last. Different art styles. The use of music. It was all such a glorious experience!
My favorites definitely have to be The Three Robots (they need their own series), Lucky 13, Suits and Good Hunting. The rest are still amazing, these ones just made me feel something more.
I know Volume 3 JUST came out but I can't wait for Volume 4!
Blood Red Sky (2021)
Better in its original language
For the most part this movie was pretty good. A lot of gore which i love, and interesting storyline, having the main vampire be a good guy instead of a full blown monster and showing that humans can sometimes be more of a monster than the creature itself.
HOWEVER!
I stared watching this in the English dubbed version (which I didn't even realized it was dubbed till i started noticing the lips didn't match the words) and oh my Lanta the child voice acting for it is awful! The emotion behind each line was either mind numbingly whiney or dead pan. It was bad. I honestly thought the kid was just a horrible actor and was going to shut the movie off until i clued in that it was a German movie. So i switched it to German audio with English subtitles and the difference was night and day.
I definitely recommend this movie if you like gore and vampires but definitely watch it in its original language.
The Bone Collector (1999)
Why did they change names from the book?
The movie is okay, but I just read the book and am wondering why they felt the need to change names, or locations, or reasons why someone did something.
I can understand changing certain things to condense the books like dialogue but the fact that one of the main characters names was changed from Sach to Donaghy makes no sense.
9-1-1: Home and Away (2021)
Great Episode...Minus....
Dear GOD why did they have to add a character in that makes you want to slap them through the screen.
I love everyone in this show but the new dispatcher that treats May like dirt can go. If she is going to become a regular I'm going to find it hard to keep watching.
Candyman (2021)
Im a sucker for a smart horror film.
When I say smart horror film I mean the characters of the film aren't idiots who run into the dark haunted basement asking if anyone is there.
This delivered on that. When presented with a dilemma of the scary kind, many of the characters went "nope". And they lived.
There were aspects that could have been improved such as adding more horror aspects but the freaky parts they did have were good. Instead of jump scares you have unnerving uncertainty. There were a few scenes where it was just talking about art or things that I found boring but that's because I don't know anything about art.
I will say this. If you have Trypophobis (fear of cluster bubbles) be prepared for the end cause oooooh my god that made me want to vomit.
OH and the use of paper puppets, especially the end credits, *chefs kiss* beautiful.
And I clapped when Tony Todd made his appearance!
The Craft: Legacy (2020)
Boring love story.
This is not the movie I was hoping it would be. I love the original. The backstory of the girls from the original was well played out. You cared about them. This one, you only get an idea of Lily's life and not of the rest.
I was expecting a fun thriller of girls learning magic, with horror mixed in but instead it's a love story and teen drama. It had none of the enjoyment from the first.
Very disappointed.
Us (2019)
Finally watched this and just...wish I didn't.
Holy hell. This movie came out in 2019 and all the bad reviews I heard, I didn't end up seeing it but as I lay here, July 2021, sick from my vaccine (I'm fine no worries, I always have reactions to needles and stuff) I decided to finally watch it while I lay here with a fever.
I'm pretty sure this movie made me more sick.
It's just so bad. This takes place in The United States right? The land of guns? Where everyone and their neighbours usually own some form of a gun, hand, rifle, shot gun? But nope, no guns. Just whatever's lying around.
And wtf was with the stupid random comedy. Sorry but if I was being chased by a clone of myself I wouldn't be arguing whose gonna drive the damn car!
And I have so many more questions then answers. Why the chain at the end? Why now? Who made them and why? How has no one discovered them? Just. So weird and stupid.
I loved Get Out and I'm excited for Candyman when it comes out but this one is a big "don't even bother" for me.
Criminal Minds: The Tall Man (2018)
Loved the episode...however...
So, I loved this episode, I loved the story (reminded me of Slenderman) HOWEVER, the biggest issue I have is that JJ's sister committed suicide because of this older man, who her parents obviously knew about because of the flashback of the argument where Ros was saying that they loved each other and the father yelling at her...so...why did JJ not go to her parents and ask them if they knew who the guy was??? In a later episode JJ's mother said it was thanks to JJ for catching the guy who drove Ros to suicide but the fact that in this episode JJ never discusses with her parents who the man could have been confuses the hell out of me.
