Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green (2005)
SCARY, in a good way.
This game doesn't have a lot of things. It misses a LOT more than it hits. But it's cheap. And I have found several redeeming qualities about it as well.
The sound can be repetitive, but it sets the mood very well. Some think: "wow, only 4 notes constantly repeated." I personally think that it is this very aspect that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end.
I am a very experienced gamer, having played everything from Galaga to Call of Duty. And never, ever, have I found a game that made me actually FEAR encountering another enemy. You really don't want to continue. But that adds realism, because that means you are thinking EXACTLY like you would if that was not Jack the Farmer but You. It's not that the enemies are terribly difficult to defeat, if you play the game long enough you can kill every single zombie without even firing a gun. But you would just really prefer if that next corner didn't have zombies waiting around it. But you always do, so you have to just keep on trucking.
Buy this game, but only if you want to be GENUINELY scared. Because you will be, should you be able to look past its shortcomings. honestly, what Horror movie fan Doesn't want to be scared?
Day of the Dead 2: Contagium (2005)
Holy crap-this is worse than Return of the living dead 5
OK, where to begin? Oh yeah, the opening sequence. It was pretty boring, because the directors were obviously trying to inject some action, but failed miserably. Then, could someone please explain to me why the filmmakers decided to have the cause of the zombie outbreak be... a thermos. O lordy, save me from that thermos! The didn't really follow Romero's set zombification standards (Romero was NOT involved with this film.) They more so made an amalgamation of different zombie movies "rules" For example, these zombies can talk and reason and don't initially know that they are zombies (Return of the Living Dead). Also, they can run, which is an obvious nod to the Dawn of the Dead remake (which is awesome, by the way). And, worst of all, The hospital ward is called the ROMERO ward. If Mr. Romero saw this film, he would die on the spot (and then in true irony, turn into a zombie and eat the filmmakers whole). Most of these actors have less acting experience than your average elementary school play cast. The makeup is pretty awful. How awful, you ask? The blood looks like ketchup and the peeling skin is obviously dried glue. And some people can be immune to zombification? What's up with that? Sure, there are definitely different types of zombies, but immunity? That's preposterous, especially since this is supposed to be a prequel. And that's another thing, the tagline reads: "Part prequel, Part sequel" How does that work? you can't be a prequel and a suqeul at the same time. Now, you might say I hate all zombie movies, but my answer would be "No, just this one"
*By reading this review, you receive more entertainment than from watching this movie, I guarantee it.*
Return of the Living Dead: Necropolis (2005)
Pretty awful
Off the bat (specifically the first 45 minutes or so) there is little more than some teenagers talking and riding dirt bikes. One of their friends, Zeke, hurts himself and gets taken to the hospital. One of the main characters goes to see him and the receptionist tells him that Zeke is dead. I don't know about you, but if my best friend was dead, I would show a little emotion.
This brings me to my main beefs with the movie. At times, there is overacting, but at other times the actors seem as if they are just going thru the motions. The main character seems indifferent to his parents', best friend's, and little brother's deaths, but cries his eyes out when a girl dies. Also, the director apparently has never seen a return of the living dead movie. I saw the original shortly before viewing this movie, and was shocked at the lack of care for the major details. For example, in the original, zombies are unkillable unless you burn them to ashes. In this movie, zombies don't even need to be shot in the head. Also, when the main character finds his parents to be made into some sort of terminator/nemesis/predator uber-zombies, he feels the urge to stay with them. You would expect these uber-zombies to be hard to kill, but they die in boring, uninteresting, rather disappointing ways. The mother dies by swinging her circular-saw hand into a high voltage box (Jaws 2 anyone?) and the dad just gets blown into pieces by a grenade (Jaws anyone?). Also, at the end, he is apparently re-formed by some cinema magic to shoot his gun a bit and then die.
I don't think they had an easy time of finding extras for this movie, because there are only about 4 different zombies that just keep coming back and coming back.
This is one of those movies that actually has a decent, albeit overused, premise (teenagers sneak into warehouse and release something) but the execution was so poor that a mentally challenged chimpanzee could do a better job of directing and producing. The 2 out of ten is in my mind very generous for such a horrible film. Its only positive point is that it is better than Return of the Living Dead 5: Rave to the Grave.
