Nicotina (2003)
Don't believe the hype, this film has nothing on Amores Perros
I saw a cut of this film back in February in order to cut a trailer for American audiences. I must say that I was not impressed after viewing it. The film started off interesting and silly, but as the plot unfolded it really had no where to go. Actor Diego Luna has done some fine work in his previous films, but he phoned this performance in.
Also, film makers felt that they should use a Guy Richie style of editing in order to spice the film up and give it some edge, but all that did was make the film look contrived.
Right now they are trying to market this film like it's Amores Perros, but this film is absolutely nothing like it, wait till video to see this film.
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
No fun for the whole family
This movie was brutally graphic. Jesus simply got the living hell beat out of him. Wow! What bad ass. Now this film is all in the eyes of Mel Gibson, and what a vision he had - I've never given much thought to religion, but I am going to give J.C. another look over.
I think Mel Gibson has given us a film that really shows us that Jesus died for all our sins. Also, the movie is not that preachy, I felt that I was allowed to come to my own conclusions on the kind of life that Jesus lived. Mel Gibson has made a religious film with a lot of integrity. It is violent, but wow, Jesus was one tough cookie.
Gibson has come a long way - You must see this film once.
Monster (2003)
Wow! A movie that you will be thinking about for a few days.
I went into this movie with low expectations because Charlize Theron is a mediocre actress and that her trying to De Niroize a role by gaining weight and making herself look ugly would end up making her look stupid. However, she nailed the role and made believer out of me. Excellent performance.
Not to forget that the story was very interesting and the supporting cast did an excellent job as well. It is a must see, but don't take your grandma to this film for it is too powerful and disturbing.
Willow (1988)
Guilty Pleasure
This movie is a bit silly yet something about it really captures my love of movies. This film did get panned by critics but one thing that saved the film was the hilarious performance by Val Kilmer as Madmartigan. "Gentlemen, meet lug." He really added to this movie just as he did when he played Doc Holiday in Tombstone. Anyways, the film has a good heart, and even though its a bit predictable, the hog trick at the end was a good set up.
Ron Howard's best work, even better then his direction on Beautiful Mind. Thats all I have to say, I now got to get back to my cave because the sun is coming out. Bye.
