Santa Inc. (2021)
Not worth your time.
I'm trying to give the series a chance, and I might continue to do so. However, I'm currently on episode three and I'm so bored of the show. It's trying to be funny, but the jokes aren't landing at least for me. This part might be subjective. On top of that, Candy Smalls the elf had potential to be a likable character, but the way she was written and her dialogue doesn't help me to relate to her. In general, I don't really care about any of the characters in the show. Yes, there is a lot of "woke" messaging in the show, but that isn't its worst quality. What I mentioned before is arguably worse. I could have looked past the propaganda if the story and characters were good, but I'm at the third episode and I'm not sold on the show. That's an hour of time I gave them, but I'm not impressed.
Positives include the production value. Picture quality is great and stop-motion looks good, but these should be supplementary to the characters, story, and worldbuilding, which as I mentioned I found lackluster which is why I'm giving it this score.
This show has a lot to live up to. There are great Christmas movies and maybe shows out there for you to watch. This show doesn't doesn't compare at all, so you are better off watching something else this holiday season.
Minari (2020)
You can definitely sense the Oscar-nominated-ness about it when you watch the movie.
Many people who have reviewed this movie have already mentioned the ending, and I do not disagree with what they are saying. The movie doesn't concluded and they left some loose ends regarding the state of the family.
Other than that, I really enjoyed the movie. I think the actors did really well and as I mentioned on my review for "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure," I gravitate towards stories about the American Dream. The tone and pacing was definitely different than most movies nowadays, but I think it helped the movie. P. S. I really hope the grandmother gets better if they do a sequel. :'(
Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure (2011)
I've not seen many Disney Channel movies, but I'd say this is among the best of them.
I don't get the negative reviews. From what I can see, most of them are due to the film going in a different creative direction than the viewers expected. For example, there are some who wanted Ryan Evans to be part of the movie. If the low rating is for that reason, then I think that's an unfair critique.
I came into the movie not having high expectations, and I enjoyed myself. Personally, I find this movie better than the High School Musical movies. Those that say Sharpay did not have character development in this movie were wrong, she started out the movie one way and ended a different person. That's character development. I think they did a great job taking Sharpay's character traits and crafting a story that would best complement and challenge her to become a better person.
I, being your typical working class American, also enjoyed seeing Sharpay learning to go all in on her passion (although she goes about it the wrong way sometimes). There was also one or two moments that reminded me of when London Tipton learned what it was like to be poor in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. All in all, I loved the tone of the movie. It was the heartfelt movie you would expect from Disney Channel, other reviewers even mentioned such. We get so saturated with a bunch of bleakly realistic films or sentimental films, but sometimes you just want to watch a movie and have a good time. Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure did that for me.
