Captain Marvel (2019)
What went SO wrong ?
I just don't understand. I was bored throughout. There is a lack of production value, the action scenes are mostly flat and without tension, the picture when not in daylight is awful... the comedy is very poorly thought out and forced in and reminded me of the tonal dissonance of "The Last Jedi". That is bad, my friend.
The worst part of this is the script : disjointed and poorly developed. The plot by itself is not "bad" but what they did with it is very bland and poor. So, except for "Vers" looking for her past, nothing seems to be at stakes. The characters talk about a war that has been going on for forever but we don't get to see or feel the scale of it, its horrors and sufferings... and the decisive scene for the protagonist to change sides happens in a kitchen because she has a talk with the character who was supposed to be the main villain but is actually a victim of the galactic oppressors she's with. That is utterly... underwhelming, to say the least.
The relationship that she and her mentor (Jude Law) have is underdeveloped and doesn't even serve its feminist purpose.
Nick Fury is so fun and cool and uncaring that he's simply not Nick Fury... and the fact that it's now canon that he lost his eyes that way totally undermines his "badasserie"... I could go on but time to conclude.
I've seen all of the MCU movies and this one is definitely on the lower part of the list, with Ant-Man and Thor 2...
Lots of assholes decided to pin all of this on Brie Larson's back... that's unfair and wrong.
Marvel and Disney didn't hire the people they needed to for this movie: The Writers/Directors were not fit for this. I've seen their previous movies and I really liked their "It's Kind of a Funny Story".
But here, they did not write and produce a clever Strong Female Super Hero Protagonist movie: They had an astronomical budget and huge resources, without being able to handle the basics of its writing, they made a Girl Power Fantasy cartoon show for kids, and a crappy one at that.
