Heart of Champions (2021)
Row as a team
Sports movies seem to have a formula. Team not performing as it should, new coach comes in who inspires, someone trying to undermine the team, a traumatic event the team must overcome. So it is with this one but somehow it all works for me. Michael Shannon as the coach stands out even though the main focus is not on him, but liked other characters as well and their stories. Certainly deserving of a higher rating than what it has on IMDB.
Kubo and the Two Strings (2016)
American made about life in Japan
"Kubo and the Two Strings" is an animation movie about a boy living in medieval Japan who has a magical shamisen (Japanese stringed instrument.) He is forced to go on a quest to find a magical suit of armor with monkey and beetle when he is threatened by his mother's two evil sisters and power hungry grandfather. It's well done and enjoyable but there's a major problem for me. American made about life in Japan. Hayao Miyazaki does it so much better.
Mia et le lion blanc (2018)
Cool lion!
Story of a relationship between a young girl and a lion and what she does when his life is threatened. Filmed over a three year period as both develop in age. I really like this one. It's a nice relationship movie and to me much more honest than say "Out of Africa."
