Homicide Hunter: Lt. Joe Kenda (2011)
8.8?! Really?!
I do love a good true crime show. But no offense to Joe Kenda (who I'm sure is good at his job) he's got all the personality of rug on Valium. The stories are interesting, but he narrates them in such a manner that I tend to fall asleep before the killer is revealed. Not that many of them are so tricky to figure out in the first third of the show. Add to that his cheesy lines that are so contrived they'd make network tv viewers cringe and you have a recipe for mediocrity. If this is your jam and you want to see a decent version of this kind of show then do yourself a favor and find a way to watch "Ron Iddles: The good cop." Far superior in every way!
Fallout (2024)
only played the original game for a couple of hours
I understand people loved the game, I gave it a couple of hours back in the day and moved on... thinking now I possibly didn't give it enough of a chance. Or maybe I'm just lazy?... I gave this show a couple of hours and didn't mind what I saw. Gave it a couple more and started to enjoy it. A couple hours later (like ep6, 7, and 8) I was hooked and sad there were no more episodes to watch. One of the better shows I've come across in the last few years. Good acting, well written scripts and twists I didn't see coming 2 episodes before they happen. Can't wait for season 2. Although I'm sure that's a long way off. 😟 thinking maybe I'll dust off my PS3 and give it another look?
Nimona (2023)
Best animated film I've seen in a number of years
Without seeing the other nominee's for the best animated film Oscar I can say I'd be shocked if this doesn't win. Personally I find it hard to fault in any way. This is one out of the box, one of those once every few years animated films that will become a measuring stick for this genre for some time to come. The story was really original and unexpected, dialogue was sharp and shock horror actually funny (which is more than I can say about almost all big budget animation). Add in the fact it got me emotionally in the same way as Coco and Inside Out. The only negative I can put on this movie was I wish it was longer. Could've easily watched for another hour. Enjoyed it start to finish. Can't recommend this movie highly enough for adults or kids alike 👏
The Dropout (2022)
Great performances from many actors in a fascinating real life story
I watched the documentary this series is based on a couple of times in the past and I found it to be a fascinating story. I would say this series does a good job for the most part in telling that story. There are a number of noteworthy performances, Amanda Seyfreid is reminiscent of Holmes. If not spot on with the voice. But how many females can speak in that tone? Stephen Fry is so good in the role of Ian Gibbons, he doesn't do much acting these days but that's not for lack of ability. He holds his own in the company of A listers. And William H Macy is great and almost unrecognizable as the Neighbour with his own motives. In my opinion this would be a 9/10 if Holmes Character was more accurately portrayed, She is more or less painted as nothing more than a villain, yet from watching the doco more than once I don't think she was that straight forward. "The road to hell is paved with good intentions"
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Stop it Hollywood
So yeh I enjoyed this film... is it Oscar worthy? No. Are any of the performances Oscar worthy? No again... an original concept acted out well with decent performances but come on... I remember a time when movies that won these major awards were moving, or even memorable. I have nothing against anyone involved in this film but seriously do you really believe this is worth all the plaudits you're getting. If you're honest the answer is no...
Can't say I'm surprised. This is nothing brand new. The last 5-10 years the major award winning films are just the leftist Hollywood virtue signalling. Shame on you.
The Recruit (2022)
Yeh so the low reviews are nonsense
Better than average! This show is definitely a comedy with action/thriller leanings. It's not as good as a show like say patriot, but it's in the same vein. The reviews of this show saying it's garbage tv style stuff are ridiculous. The writing is good enough to stand on its own for this type of show and the story arcs are definitely interesting enough to keep you engaged to see what happens in the next episode. The actors and their characters are generally all decent, despite the fact I only recognize a couple of the main players from other things they have done. Certainly worthy of another season. I will be watching.
Nine Perfect Strangers (2021)
Never up never in??
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this show... but they make a reference in the 7th episode about the golf expression 'never up never in'.
Anyone who has played golf even semi regularly in their life understands what this means. Yet somehow the writers had no concept of its meaning yet felt the need to put it into the show?! Really bad writing. Nothing else to say.
