Prey (2022)
AT LAST AN AWESOME PREDATOR MOVIE AFTE SOOO MANY YEARS!!!!
When I saw the trailer, I was underwhelmed. But after seeing the movie, I feel that it is by far the second best entry in the franchise. Prey starts off as a slow burn and quickly picks up the pace. There's suspense and horror elements throughout the film and when the action starts it's gory as hell. Frankly, I was surprised to see how much gore they incorporated. However, the gore was tastefully shown, rather that showing it, just for the sake of it. The only reason I am giving it a 8 is because I feel the dialogues at times seemed a bit contemporary and in English. The year being shown was 1719, and no one talked like that (Let alone Native American Tribes). I would have preferred to see the movie completely in the Comanche dialect with English subtitles (It would have been more authentic and gritty). That being said, the movie is wonderful, and a must-watch for sci-fi, action and horror fans.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
I don't know what the hate is all about!
I don't know what the hate is all about, but the movie was great. Christian Bale was terrifying at times and the others were also did well. What really struck me was the bitter sweet ending. And what was up with Russel Crowe???...he acted more like an Italian mob boss that a Greek God .. It was HILARIOUS!!!
Peacemaker (2022)
By far THE BEST series of this year.
9.5 stars actually, but the rating system here doesn't work like that. Before the series started off, I didn't have high hopes. But after the first episode, I was completely hooked. The series was almost flawless. It had everything, starting from dark yet goofy humor, irony, visceral action to touchy somber tones. The only drawback was the Adebayo love life storyline which felt forced. But all the other aspects were so great, that they can be easily overlooked.
John Cena always had great mic skills, but his performance here was shockingly amazing. Freddie Stroma did an excellent job portraying the psychotic yet lovable Vigilante. If one thinks about it, the parallels between the characters of this series and the ones from Guardians of the Galaxy is very apparent:
1). Peacemaker is a combination of Star Lord and Drax
2). Harcourt is Gamora
3). Adebayo is a combination of Mantis and Gamora (to a certain extent)
4). Eagly is Groot
5). The combo of Vigilante and Economos is Rocket
6). White Dragon is a twisted form of Yondu
I sincerely hope there is a Season 2. Apparently, the series hasn't drawn enough money. It would be an ABSOLUTE SHAME if it gets cancelled for this. Many series in television history didn't draw money in their first season but in time, they ended up becoming a sensation (Friends for example). I hope that the show runners show faith in the series and let it continue.
The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
Odd combination of Very Good, Good, Mediocre, Bad and Awful!
A TRUELY SPECTACULAR finale of an otherwise lackluster series. Don't get me wrong, some episodes were good, but some were very mediocre and even bad. The series picked up pace after the arrival of Mando but the beginning part of the series was SLOW, BORING AND STRAIGHT OUT BAD to a certain extent.
The series HAD TO forcefully enter beloved characters from other Star Wars franchises to make it stand on its feet, OTHERWISE...
The standout performance of the series was by far Ming Na-Wen (Fennec Shand). She was badass, deadly and ruthless yet faithful, honorable and beautiful...She is the Black Widow of Star Wars. Black Krrsantan should have been developed more. He is an absolute BEAST, but here, he seemed very vulnerable and somewhat tame. Cad Bane should have gotten WAYYY more screen time and episodes. He alone could have made the series shine. The Mod Gang angle was AWFUL and poorly executed.
The series also lacked a central villain, the addition of which would have made for more compelling storytelling.
On a final note, when you have to forcefully enter beloved and established characters from other franchises to make a series stand, it's NEVER a good sign. A Boba Fett series WITHOUT much contribution from him (apart from the finale) is unacceptable. Enough with the Bacta Tanks, Tusken Raider family angle and demanding respect without earning it - IF THEY ARE SERIOUS ABOUT SEASON 2, THE SHOWRUNNERS NEED TO GET SERIOUS AND GET RID OF THE EXCESS FAT...A GOOD PLACE TO START WILL BE ROBERT RODRIGUEZ. HE CAN GO BACK TO MAKING MOVIES THAT DON'T MAKE ANY SENSE.
