Elizabethtown (2005)
Innovative and entertaining
This story captured my attention from the first and I've watched it 3 times since I found it a few weeks ago. I'll be watching it again because of the interesting portrayals and unique take on several aspects of life...and death.
The setting, Elizabethtown, KY, made the story seem more realistic and a good variation from the many movies set in big cities.
I thought Orlando Bloom's acting was spot on for a person who went through what he experienced. His range of acting is demonstrated later in the movie when he seems to come out of the depression caused by the events at the beginning and comes face to face with his grief. I enjoyed Kirsten Dunce's portrayal of a tenacious, creative and provocative flight attendant. Great supporting cast including Alex Baldwin, who always dresses a move up a movie regardless of what role he plays and Sarandon who perfectly acts the part of the the disoriented widow. I especially like Paul Schneider (also from Parks and Recreation) in his role as Drew's cousin...so different from the city planner in P&R.
Christmas Under Wraps (2014)
Comfortable Christmas Movie
I enjoyed this movie for the interspersed humor, beautiful scenery, interaction of the main actors and mostly because it was relaxing to watch. I watch movies like this to relax and NOT be jarred out of a calm mood and this one succeeded. The overall concept wasn't original, and for the most part the end was predictable, so if you want surprises, this probably isn't for you. But for me, overall, the movie worked.
Two Weeks Notice (2002)
One of the best romance comedies I have seen
This movie is a great romance. In my opinion, it rates up there with An Affair to Remember, You've Got Mail and French Kiss. Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant interact really well. In fact, all the characters blend well for a smooth story culminating in a really good ending.
Far North (1988)
I like this movie because of its unique setting and plot
Far North has some interesting character sketches. I think Jessica Lange plays an excellent role, and interestingly enough, she is from the area where the movie was made. I enjoy Charles Durning in movies; he always puts on a good show, and he is the highlight of this movie. The plot is implausible, as are many of the scenes and situations, but that is what I find intriguing about it. It isn't a serious movie; if you want serious find something else. But if you want a unique and somewhat twisted plot in a new setting, see it. It is a movie I can just relax and watch and get some good laughs.
