Harland Manor (2021)
Run of the mill
Decent story, decent director, but blend results. The story har been done before, paranormal investigators arrive att a pretty intriguing house with a dark past. From then on it's all shaky hand-held cameras, and screams in the night. Not the first, or last, of its kind. But the bandwagon has left, and some reinventioning is necessary to keep me awake. Still this was apparently made for tv and might limp along for a while as a night re-run.
Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2021)
A slight return to form
After branching out the concept PA is reclaiming the unexpected. I didn't see an amish setting coming, but Deadly Blessing was great 40 years ago. I fear there will be a prequel since the circumstances of before the movie's scope are not scrutinised... And the ending screams of what's coming in an unashamed Friday the 13th way. But still this is much more like it that the series has been in years!
Kastanjemanden (2021)
Beware the Danes!!
Here in Sweden there might be a bit of semi-friendly banter and quasi-rivalry going om. But att the moment there is no Swedish series as Good as this. The leads are real characters and the story compelling. Hats off!!
The Night House (2020)
Plats it safe, nothing much to get excited about
You van tell it's an american movie, and yes, it is well acted and the camerawork is.almost impeccable. But it is also too neat and tidy, with basically nothing to raise anyones pulse. The Main character is also too well-adjusted to be engaging. Europe and the UK have mustered to do that for a long time now, with or without a fab budget.
Lair (2021)
More love than money in this one
Without expectations after one UK movie disappointment too many I really enjoyed this. There is something of a seventies UK horror film in this one, the bleakness, the lack of money, the character development, the tense ending, and the last twist. More please!
