Semper Fi (2001)
Nice promotional movie for the marine corps
Nice promotional movie for the marine corps. However, it lacks depth. The characters are too superficial. I don't really get the point of this flick, it comes across as a promo for the army. It would've been nice to know more about the background of the characters, especially the women-recruits. I was kinda disappointed about that. Some parts were downright embarrassing. Everyone made it through the training, except the runaway. That's not realistic. No actor exceeded their (hopelessly)stereotypical character. The ending was a cheap shot and way WAY cliché. For would-be or wannabe soldiers it might be a nice movie, though. Personally, I'd go for Full Metal Jacket or Biloxi Blues.
Get Over It (2001)
Great teen movie
Sure, this kinda movie comes from the Hollywood conveyor belt every hour. But this is a good example, it's funny, it has a pretty predictable plot but who cares? Nice analogs between Shakespeare's a midsummernights dream and the story itself, in which the characters act in a musical version of the play.
Try it on, you'll wear it easy
Dutch Treat (1987)
Dutch girl band goes to make it in the USA
This is a movie about a Dutch girl band, who want to try their luck in the USA. They're called the Dolly Dots, had several hits in the Netherlands and our way popular. This is the plot, but the actresses are really singers and together they form the Dolly Dots in real life, that is. They actually really try to make it in the USA, and the movie (really thin plot, predictable jokes) is supposed to boost their overseas career. The movie wasn't even well received in Holland (where the Dolly Dots were popular). I'm sorry (I used to be a big fan) but the movie and the soundtrack s*ck.
The Bone Collector (1999)
Bad rip-off
Seen this story about a million times. It's a bad rip-off with a very farfetched plot. Denzel Washington disappoints, and Angelina Jolie is unconvincing as a police investigator. No suspense, I could tell the ending of the movie after watching 15 minutes.
The Breakfast Club (1985)
Truly one of the best ever...
This movie is one of the best ever. It's obligatory for every teenager. Although this movie has only one location, it never gets boring. It's funny, it's moving and it's realistic. The 80s setting might be out of date, but for me, it's part of the fun.
Gotta see it
