Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (2011)
I Stand Corrected
My little girls have moved on from Miley and the "Joe Bros" and are now fixated on the dreamy-haired Justin Bieber. I expected all the bubble gum pop concert footage that makes tweens swoon, but I didn't expect a lot of behind-the-scenes storyline and historical footage...which was the most interesting to me and a pleasant surprise. I went in wanting to bash the kid for his early success, but came out with a new respect for the kid. He has busted his hump to earn everything he has gotten to this point and, while I'm not sure his star will shine forever as an artist, I think he'll have a huge career in the music biz. For being such a young guy with wheelbarrows full of cash, he seems to have his head screwed on plenty tight. The fact that he allowed an entire segment to be dedicated to making fun of his "fabulous" hair (looks like a fairly normal haircut to me), makes me like the kid even more. The only thing I didn't care for was a cameo by Snoop Dogg. I don't feel he's the best role model for little girls, 8-12 years old...but that's just me. Bottom line...if you're little girl wants to go, take her. You won't hate it, trust me.
The Search for Santa Paws (2010)
This is a Christmas movie for KIDS?
The talking animals and kids are cute, and if you can make it past the cruel orphanage administrator who casts children into a creepy basement as a punishment and a dying Santa in a hospital (that included an oxygen mask and tubes!), you just might like the happy ending in the last 5 minutes of this awful movie.
My 8-year old twins either just sat there quietly or cried throughout, as my wife and I reassured them that Santa wouldn't die.
Richard Riehle is a good actor (see: Office Space), but miscast as a odd-looking, less-than-robust Santa. Most mall Santas would have been a better choice.
