Nae Nampyeongwa Gyeolhonhaejweo (2024)
Quite entertaining but lacks sense at places
So this kdrama is actually very dramatic and entertains throughout. Really loved the fl's character development and change in her personality as she slipped in her second life - it was super satisfying to watch. It's all fun until you see a lot of loose strings in the plot towards the end. Just to name a few points I didn't enjoy..
1. Firstly I just didn't like the chemistry between the leads. Like don't want to shade the ml but he's just not good at acting. Where were his expressions excuse me? Nah they just didn't do it for me.
2. Just don't understand why was the plot so non sensical after 12th ep. What's with all the murder scheming and stuff? And wtf was the point of pretending to get back with min hwang, like fr? So not needed. And Yoora and her actions were totally uncalled for.
3. The writers did the second leads so bad like where was their screen time? They made such a cute pair. I really wanted to see them more instead of that crazy race of killing everyone.
4. I know this is fiction and I have watched a lot of rich lead kdramas but still I always wonder do the characters have no real work to do? Like do they just scheme useless traps all day? Take yoora for example it just seemed like her full time job was to stalk ji won. Also how can you make a person hr head/ chairman's secretary/ lawyer at the same time lol. And even after that he has got time to dig everyone's dirt.
Oh and did I mention I just couldn't take min hwang seriously the whole time?? Like it's not his fault it's just that I've seen him in welcome to waikiki before and I just can't seem to take him seriously ever again iykyk. The female casting was done perfectly - ji won, su min were all great choices and did a fabulous job. But not so sure about two male leads..
Like the show is not that bad but if you are up for a typical kdrama that lacks sense here and there then just go for it.
The Story of Park's Marriage Contract (2023)
Super cliche and unoriginal plot, yet somewhat enjoyable
I have a little mixed feelings when it comes to this show. The first half was fun, but the second half was equally frustrating to watch.
First half is more about character and romance development between the leads, featuring some super cheesy moments. But it's fun if you're into that stuff!
What I didn't like though was how over dramatic and ridiculous the plot turns out to be towards the end. Unnecessarily making good characters turn evil, and people going out of the way to do unimaginably stupid things - not fun at all. It's seemed like no hard work was put into the drama by their team. Also what's up with the ghost like second ML? And having a crush on sister in law seriously? Second leads also had no chemistry at all. There are some logical flaws as you watch the entire show. Some things didn't add up. But okay wasn't really expecting much anyways.
P. S. The joseon driven fashion in the show was really nice nonetheless!
Yijae, Got Jookseummida (2023)
Summarized in a word PERFECTION
Absolutely loveddd the show!! This show really did justice to the unique theme it has. A lot of times the theme is pretty attractive the the story and it's direction messes it all up. But this one straight up is a gem!
Has a little bit of every genre - drama, fantasy, thrill, action, mystery, melo, romance and what not. But everything is packed in just so fine nothing felt out of place. Keeps you hooked throughout not a single boring episode. I did feel part 1 was slightly more entertaining than part 2. But the ending was pretty satisfactory.
Also need I mention about the amazinggg star cast and their amazing performances. Totally mind-blowing. Really hope I get to watch more of such shows.
Lover (2023)
A great historical melodrama with captivating romance and acting
This is a great historical melodrama with some amazing acting. The leads and the chemistry was really good - a special mention of Namkoong Min's phenomenal performance. This man was literally born for this role! It's a heartwrenching tale of love between two people who were heavily caught into politics and tragic events of the Qing invasion in joseon.
The drama explored some really dark sides of slavery and exploitation of captives taken from joseon so heads up for that. It's quite toned down from the real events but still little disturbing.
The romance between the leads just feels so surreal and beautiful and I cannot really describe in words. It just makes you believe in true love. It's similar to scarlet heart ryeo in many ways including the captivating chemistry between the leads. However be assured it doesn't end unhappily.
Despite how much I loved this drama there are still few things I felt could be better -
1. The drama was really frustrating in the middle when Gil Chae and Jang hyun would just keep separating despite having feelings for each other. I was really disappointed when Gil Chae decided to get married to officer gu. Her reason was understandable to some extent but still not fulfilling as a viewer.
2. I feel the part with Jang hyun' amnesia twice was pretty unnecessary. The last part was justified but in the 19th episode there wasn't a need.
3. The way king of joseon was swallowed by paranoia towards the end was a bit exaggerated. Calling captives traitors and crown princess a thief was kind of overboard.
Nevertheless I still loved watching it both for the story and romance and would surely recommend.
Banjjagineun Woteomellon (2023)
Really sweet and refreshing drama (as it's title)!
If twenty five twenty one, reply 1988 and 18 again is your kind of vibe then you're definitely gonna enjoy watching this show!
It has got the best cast ensemble and my personal fav Choi hyun wook! He just fits this happy go lucky high school guy role perfectly that no other actor can replace him. The plot is really beautiful and it feels therapeutic to watch. The visuals, cinematography, ost everything just seemed perfect.
I do feel that it has few flaws here and there - like how chung ah's father was unaware of the cruel treatment she'd been receiving, and chung ah being unnecessarily rude in scenes few scenes, etc. But it's fine the story overall is so serene and uplifting that you don't really care about these.
The ending is bittersweet for sure, but it's still nice and satisfactory ( don't worry it's not gonna rip your heart unlike twenty five twenty one :p )
Pachinko (2022)
Highly moving and compelling storytelling
This drama moves around generations of an immigrated korean woman and her family, along with the struggles they came across.
The plot is super heart touching with it's unique way of storytelling. The direction is really remarkable I must say - the way narration quickly switched between sunja and soloman in their equivalent contemporaries. The entire experience of watching it was just beautiful. Great great cinematography and a perfect cast! One of those shows which leaves an impact afterwards and keeps you thinking about it. Highly recommend to watch!
The show hasn't covered the entire novel however. I hope they come back with a second season for the same.
Maseukeugeol (2023)
Very immersive and thought provoking
Mask girl is easily one the best korean thrillers I've watched, and this comes from a huge thriller/suspense fan. The story telling and direction was right on point. Each episode is viewed from a perspective for different character. It's only after a few episodes you realise what kind of person every character is.
Yes this show is very unpredictable, but in a good way. I've seen many shows that in the name of twists turn the story upside down and eventually ruin the entire show. But this one's pure work of brilliance! Never did I once feel that the twists were too farfetched. It's the kind of show that makes you wanna sit and watch in one go.
I throughout the show underwent the same emotions as that of protagonist and understood why she decided to do what she did. The ending was very unfortunate but again perfect. Excellent performance by each and every actor, especially yeom hye ran - regardless of however much I despised her character in the story.
Ming Mauseu (2022)
First half was impressive, second half equally vile
First of all great acting and great cast, special mention of Yang kyung won (the main leads were good but this guy was amazing!).
The first few episodes of the show were genuinely so good, it got me hooked and actually made me think big Mouse could be. But there's always a challenge that comes with writing thrillers and that is to give a satisfactory climax and conclusion. This one horribly failed to do so. They did build up the intriguing atmosphere to the story but it just fell apart towards the end. I'll just point out few of my observations -
1. They almost made it seem like Choi doha was big Mouse in the middle (he wasn't) but that was honestly so confusing. If he was behind abduction and murder of professor seo jaeyong it made no sense why would he hire changho to secretly investigate former's death.
2. The warden - park yoon gap's character was the lamest I've ever seen. His portrayal was so fluctuating throughout the show. At first he's a money thirsty corrupt officer. He kept switching sides as if it's a game. And out of no where he's big mouse' subordinate. His character was so unpredictable and not in a good way! I mean he gets bullied and beaten to pulp a minute and enjoys luxury and taste of power the next. At the end him turning into a good guy helping changho out in his mission as his minion was the most inconvincing part in the show tbh. It's just bad writing and direction.
3. Ko mino was another fool. Why the hell would she enter a sus cave like structure with smoke coming out and ppl screaming and running away. She literally asked for her death. Also her passing away made no impact amidst the chaos writers chose to create.
4. Soon Tae turning out to be number 2 in big Mouse' organization was just hilarious. It's like had there been more ppl around changho they would have made them affiliated to big Mouse too.
One or two major twists are enough to make impact in a good thriller. However, when the writers keep on adding non sensical plot twist in the hope to make storyline interesting just end up making a pile of trash. The show had much better potential. Just disappointed.
The Good Bad Mother (2023)
Heart warming - worth a watch
This is actually a pretty enjoyable drama - has emotional drama and comedy in equal proportion. Being a lee do hyun fan it was a treat to see him act as a ruthless prosecutor turned cute 7 yo baby boy!
The acting seemed so real and loved the direction, in the sense how they maintained consistency in their scenes - for example Kang ho's nail paint that mi joo painted growing out with time; or how mi joo and her mom had their nails done pretty all the time considering she is a nail artist.
However, just like any drama this also had its fair share of nitpicks. I didnt like how they made kang ho's mom super despicable initially. Like she acted sweetly with all the villagers so this didn't really add up. Also just like any drama got bored through the last few episodes but finished somehow. The plot is kind of predictable towards the end.
The ending court room scene phenomenal though! Loved the ending as well. Overall nice.
Banggwa Hoo Jeonjaenghwaldong (2023)
A wannabe apocalyptic show that failed horribly
Had sooooo much potential but ruined completely in the send half.
The story is about a mysterious creature endangering human population and a high school class turned soldiers learn to fight them of. Everything seemed fine until here. But after episode 4 idk what went wrong in the author's head. (The 4 stars are only for those episodes)
The story fully revolved around unnecessary drama between high school kids. So many unrealistic events that made no sense took place.
Let's take ae sol's episode of opening prison gates for example. I was literally annoyed to the point I wanted to skip the entire show. Like seriously how could someone write something so lame? So many things made zero sense throughout the show. How did they even get fuel and motorcycles from in the beginning of 6th episode? Even the ammo wouldn't last this long. I don't even know what just happened to kim won bin? Like he just vanished with no explanation. Leaving all of this aside, what was the obsession with CSAT throughout the show??? Like who tf would care about some stupid exam when half of the population has literally been wiped out? The students didn't even bother if their families were well and good. All they could care at a time Like this were CSAT. Great. And just don't even get me started about the ending. Lamest writing ever.
Basically the story completely lost its track. Expected so much more.
Shingeki no Kyojin (2013)
One of the greatest animes of all time, until season 4 that is
The first 3 seasons were amazing honestly! Loved every bit of detailing in the story and how no loose ends were left. There was a solid reasoning and planning for every course of action, which I absolutely admire in any show. But all of this lasted only till season 3.
I loved the idea of life beyond the walls - how Marlians were the one who set an attack on eldian community of Paradis and all. However, with the starting of season 4 I saw could clearly see the gaps in character development and how loosely the story was bound. Eren's character portrayed later just didn't match with the earlier seasons no matter how hard you justify. He was a high spirited righteous guy, who all of a sudden was made to look grim and cruel. Even if he did start to see all of grisha's memories and that took a toll on him, it doesn't justify the actions he was made to do. Same goes for Grisha, the way he parented eren didn't really go with the idea of showing him as a selfish ignorant father to zeke. The list the just goes on. Also the fight scenes were highly dramatic and unrealistic the last season. Just made it fall under one of those fantasy genre anime where no logic fits.
I really really wished they didn't make the ending crash like this, This was one of my favourites until season 3 after all. Still I won't discredit the entire series just because of that. The amount of effort Isayama-san made for the whole series just shows! Worth the watch I'd say, could have been better though.
