Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)

Is it the book? No. But by god it's a fantastic movie! Not since PS/SS has a HP movie captured the essence and magic of the books, and is there ever magic! Although some things may be confusing to those who haven't read the books,the movie appeals to all sorts of people, old or young. With a perfect balance of humor romance and darkness.

Gambon gives the best performance so far of his in the HP franchise, he finally perfects Dumbledore, and the scene with potion in the cave is absolutely heartbreaking.

Tom Felton shows us his real talents turning Draco Malfoy from smug bully to evil baddass, with surprisingly more layers then one may originally thought. Being an avid fan (having devoted many hours to fansites, fanfiction, podcasts, merchandise) I must say I was hesitant about this film but really, it's awesome. In the middle it gets a little shaky but only a little, on the whole it's a fantastic film, almost perfect.

Hero Fiennes-Tiffin is defiantly someone to look out for in the future, like his uncle he seems to possess a quality about him that draws you in.

Some stand out scenes for me where when the Burrow gets attacked, Sectumsempra, Ron being poisoned by the love potion, Felix Felicis, The cave scene and the tower scene. The only real qualms I had with the film were that Evanna Lynch and Matt Lewis (Luna and Neville) were underused. Also in times it was cheesy, but what can you do?! XD Other then that- fantastic! Go see this film!

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008)

I saw it twice. I NEVER SEE ANY MOVIE TWICE. Not even my beloved Harry Potter. I saw this movie TWICE people (just in case you haven't gathered that just yet ;) ) This movie for me was HEAPS better then Lion Witch and Wardrobe, don't get me wrong I love that movie too but this movie was so much more. Yeah, the dude who played Caspian Ben Barnes wasn't fantastic, but really it's his first feature length movie, I think he did a pretty good job. And yes they changed things, but I think for the better. Little things annoyed me though, such as Susan suddenly wearing eyeliner (though this may be because I envy Anna's beauty) seriously, how does one get eyeliner in narnia? A magic tree? And lack of Edmund who has always been my favorite character even before Skandar (though it certainly didn't hurt when Skandar came on to the scene.) And how long the battle was (this didn't bug me too much). But you know what? This film was great. Fantastic. It was Elizabeth meet Sinbad It was spiffy. Seriously this isn't a bad film, how could it be with Skandar in it? The only reason it didn't do as well as it thought it would was because of when it was released. It should've been released at Christmas it would have smashed records I'm sure. All actors/actresses improve, especially Will. The look he gives when he has to leave the rest of his army behind in the castle *fangirl heart breaks* Awww. ;_; And Georgie, wow. She's such a talented pretty girl. She carried the film well she has a certain spark like Skandar, where she can just deliver her lines. Skandar... Well I love him. His wonderful I have a crush on him. Just in case you couldn't tell =) Susan is a character I don't particularly like, but Anna is awesome in the role. I'm not saying she's the best actress in the whole world but she does what she needs to, and has improved dramatically and I really like her. Plus she kicks arse in battles! WOO. Girl power! Caspian/Susan moments too cute! This movie though was put in the shadows of other movies released this summer, such as Sex and The City, Get Smart, Wall-e, Kung Fu Panda, etc. A bad move on the company's part.

I'll defiantly be getting this on DVD. Disney, a word of caution please don't release VDT in May again. It won't give the movie the time of day it deserves.

On Our Own (1988)

I loved this when I was a kid.

I really did, I used to beg to watch it. I dunno why, I just was in love with the story. Recently I just uncovered the tape and decided to rewatch it, well it wasn't as fun as it was when I was a kid that's for certain. The acting is very very wooden, and the scenarios beyond cliché. And some things are perfectly illogical, for instance the oldest boy Mitch had never driven a car before in his life and suddenly his driving like a pro? Wow, I wish I was that talented LOL. The plot had a lot of potential though, and I think it was part of the charm that made me want to watch it over and over again when I was younger, kids defying adults, kids being rebellious, meeting their Uncle Jack. Yeah it was the dreams that made me watch this obviously not the realism. It moved to fast my liking, I realize that this is just a cute little family film but there should have been a lot more plot development, not only with the kids but with Jack, Jack's girlfriend and with Peggy.

I felt that the relationship with Peggy and Jack moved a lot to fast and then in the end kind of left us hanging. That being said there were a lot of good moments where I still laughed out loud. Travis was the funniest out of the kids, that kid had a knack for comedy."Do you even know what that is?"

"Mud?" "Yeah because mud is green." LOL.

I kinda hope that this movie WILL be remade. I mean Hollywood remakes the good movie, why can't they re make the bad, eh? I see Julia Roberts as Peggy, Dakota Fanning as Kate, Elle Fanning as Lori, Zach Mills as Travis Skandar Keynes as Mitch and George Clooney as Uncle Jack. Hey, I know it's not possible but a girl can dream eh? All in all not the best movie you'll ever see in your life but certainly an enjoyable light hearted one.

Horton Hears a Who! (2008)

Not exactly what you may expect.

Just came back from the theaters and lemme tell you- WOW. I loved it. There has been a lot of negativity towards this film and because I hadn't seen a GOOD cartoon movie in such a long time I didn't set the standard too high when I went to see this with my little sister. When it first started I was like, "This is stupid." But as the movie went on i fell in love with it, slowly. It was delightful. I particularly loved the bridge scene I swear I laughed so hard.

I'm a pretty tough judge and I was pleasantly surprised by this movie, one of the best animated movies I've seen since the golden era of Disney. It was just wonderful. Some people won't like it, other's will. It depends on who you are. If you're looking for a story about loyalty, friendship, with a good strong moral message, that's cute and funny then this movies for you, if not steer right away.

I haven't been a fan of Jim Carrey's recent work so I wasn't expecting anything 'good' to come out of this movie, I was wrong. Jim was PERFECT in this role, or so I think. You don't have to read the book I didn't,the plot is pretty clear. An awesome movie, with an awesome cast. I can't wait to buy it on DVD.

Mr. Imperium (1951)

Had a lot of potential...

But failed. The story is the usual slightly cliché one of a girl (who this time happens to be an actress) falls in love with a prince who later becomes a king. The girl, played by Lana Turner gives some beautiful scenes, and her opening number with her singing was awesome. Ezio Pinza has some very good lines to and gives a lot of his own numbers to show of his opera like singing voice. Debbie Reynolds was a stand out for me, she was wonderful in her role. She was the best in the movie. The script was poor, the costumes were wonderful, the back grounds like all MGM movies of that era were a fest of colorful delight! It had a lot of potential even if it was a little cliché, but somehow got lost during the middle and the end. Things happened, and you couldn't understand why, in other words it went a little to fast. There was no real chemistry between the actress and actors, there was no real connection either, and I was left thinking, why? The ending was stupid, it had no closure, no real conclusion it just left us with a lot of questions. While the movie did have good scenes, and had wonderful actresses, it just didn't cut out for me. If Hollywood were to remake this movie and give it a better script, I would not be angry.

Little Women (1933)

Wonderful! Wonderful!

I saw this film for the first time today after searching forever for it. And I was not disappointed like I was with the 1949 one with Elizabeth Taylor and Margret O'Brien. I am a great fan of the book and as such there were some things that irked me about this film. First off, there was heaps of Amy story lines and dialogue the most apparent being how she burnt Jo's written work and books, and then later nearly drowned (only to live after Laurie and Jo saved her) were left out which made me slightly mad. Also the fact that the actress was too old to play the younger Amy (but nonetheless played her very very well) was also slightly distracting though didn't nearly as bother me as much as the missing 'book burning scene'. Secondly some things were hastily rushed into and/or not really explained or came out of nowhere like how Amy and Laurie were suddenly married, with out much back story to it. Katherine Hepburn one of the most talented actresses of all time, shines as Jo in her tom boyish ways. She literally stole the show with her acting and it was truly a joy to watch, her scenes with Laurie were the most wonderful as you could really sense their 'fun and childlike' plays. She picked up Jo's character in a way no other actress could. It seemed like the character 'Jo' and 'Katherine Hepburn' were made for each other. It's rare to find that.

When I first heard Frances Dee was playing Meg I thought, 'What?? She's more of a Beth!' but nevertheless she surprised me and was absolutely wonderful in her role. The actress who played Beth was astounding, her scenes were so well done, she was such a dear and you really care for her while you're watching. I loved Douglass Montgomery as Laurie he played Laurie very well and very true to the character. Not the most perfect adaption a lot has been changed and left out, but one of the best, most beautiful films you'll ever see in your life time. Heart warming and lovable, a real classic.
