Frailty (2001)
very good horror movie, but unuseful ending
30 April 2002
Frailty is the best horror movie I've seen this year. The plot is very good in spite of a few inconsistencies. The main key of the movie is you don't know what's real and what's not. You aren't able to locate the line between sanity and madness because it's very thin. The characters descriptions and behaviors remembered me the Stephen King's approach. People isn't good or bad. Madness has it's own rules which make it seem to be rational and coherent. Bill Paxton is the suitable actor to play the father's role. He has a friendly face but it changes into hardness and fear convincingly. This helps understanding the human internal conflicts of his mission. The photography is fine and the music remembered me someway 'The silence of the lambs'. The only thing I would have changed is the end of the movie. It should had finished after the last fade-out holding the doubt about reality or madness and keeping the story opened, not necessarily for a sequel.

a nice personal story
30 November 2001
I strictly recommend this movie. You are engaged by the story from the beginning to the end. It talks about true love, death, family matters, past experiences and the Argentinian history. The cast is very good, especially Cecilia Roth who has played very good films ('Martin Hache' and 'En un lugar en el mundo'). The music is very expressive and it's suitable played, but sometimes it's too aggressive. One of the remarkable points of Vidas Privadas is the photography. My favorite shot is the one shown in the promotional poster. The main characters are psychologically together but physically separated by a door. They talk to each other but there is nor visual neither physical contact between them. As soon as they cross the door, many surprising and interesting things happen one after the other.
