The Eric Andre Show (2012– )
7/10
The first four seasons were genius, went downhill after
13 June 2023
On the surface this show seems "stupid", but honestly it feels like an absurd deconstruction of talk shows and comedy itself. The first four seasons are timeless, filled with quotables, and memorable "uncomfortable" moments. But something changed after Hannibal left and Eric Andre had a short stint doing Hollywood movies. A lot of it seems "forced" now and there's a lot of fratboy humor and lame sex jokes under the guise of absurdism. The energy just isn't there anymore and the new seasons just don't have the same spark. But those early seasons are honestly genius in their "stupidity", and I can't get enough of them.

Just meh
6 June 2023
So it wasn't the total dumpster fire people predicted it would be, but it wasn't that good either. The cinematography is generally good, and there is some good social commentary on the lengths people will go to be famous. However, the dialogue is very wooden and unimaginative, it seemed intentional in some parts and unintentional in others. And in places in bounced between surreal/bizarre and bland/cliche. Almost feels like if Adult Swim attempted to make an HBO drama.

Overall though, this seems like a very divisive show, due to the whole "sexualization" debate, but these things happen in Hollywood, so I'm not turned off by the portrayal of that. But the show needs major improvement in the dialogue, pacing, and tone if it wants to keep my attention.

Bel-Air: A Fresh Start (2023)
Season 2, Episode 1

A great beginning to the new season
24 February 2023
I admit, I wasn't sold on this show at first. In an atmospheric of gritty reboots, making one of the Fresh Prince seemed like a recipe for disaster. But so far, the series has done a great job reframing the characters into a modern environment and bringing a new perspective to scenes from the original. And this season premiere continues that trend. Even though you want Will to come back to the Banks immediately, you understand why he wants to make it on his own and why he feels hurt by Uncle Phil. Also, there were some surprisingly wholesome moments in here. Despite what the naysayers tell you, this show isn't all doom and gloom. Some of the side stories felt just a little rushed in this episode, but overall, they definitely set the second season off right.

Flawed But Fun Return for ATHF
10 November 2022
ATHF maintained a consistent high quality for 15 years in air, and the recent shorts on YouTube felt just like the old series. So my expectations for this were pretty high. I won't say I'm disappointed, but moreso I got a mixed bag.

What works: First off, the animation is of notably higher quality than the series. Some fans have complained about it, but I enjoyed the higher quality animation. The first movie also had better animation than the series, albeit not to this extent. Speaking of the first movie, this one actually has a plot unlike the first one, and it's actually pretty engaging despite an inconsistent pace. Also, the intro song is amazing.

What doesn't work: The comedy is different. The zany absurdity and rambly, witty dialogue ATHF is know for is still there, but unfortunately it takes a backseat to more conventional and sometimes predictable jokes. Also, while I appreciate the effort to try something (somewhat) new, satire and social commentary is not ATHF's strong suit. The very few times they did it the series fell flat, and that's the same case with the movie.

Also, the Mooninite interruptions are funny at first but they get a little stale and repetitive as the movie goes on. However, the interactive texts are hilarious.

It's not all bad, the characters are mostly the same and there are some laughs to be had. Just not at the same nonstop pace as the series. Also the action sequences in here are brief but genuinely incredible. Plantasm is definitely worth a watch, and while not the strongest ATHF entry, it's something fans can appreciate, and it's relatively friendly to newcomers.

Good Show, Tons Of Potential
27 August 2022
I thought this was gonna be your typical shock humor adult cartoon and while it does have some elements of that, it uses them very effectively. The plot isn't predictable at all and it takes you to some very interesting places. Also, some scenes are legitimately scary and unsettling like a horror movie, so I definitely appreciated that. There are some meh jokes and slightly unnatural dialogue, but I just chalked it up to growing pains, and I am hopeful this show will grow into something great. It's fun, witty, disturbing, and uses dark/shock humor effectively. If FX treats this show right, they will definitely have another hit series on their hands.

Overrated Pretentious Dribble
6 August 2022
This film has been hailed as prestige cinema and the main character has received a revival in popularity through fancams on social media and TikTok. But in my opinion, it deserves very little of that acclaim.

The satire in this film is hamfisted and they beat you over the head with the same points instead of introducing new ideas or even different angles of the same one. Also the dialogue is extremely cheesy, and the narration is tedious to sit through. At times it even feels A. I generated. Not to mention a few scenes could've used some trimming.

At the end of it all, this is a movie about a vain, shallow, materialistic man killing people because they are also vain, shallow, and materialistic, then having a superiority complex about it. It's not all bad, and some scenes show promise, plus there's a few dark laughs to be had. But overall, it's a waste of time.

Spawn (1997–1999)

Incredible Adult Animation
6 August 2022
Even though I haven't read the comics, I was still impressed and amazed by this series. It is a brilliant underrated gem that not only provides action, but ponders tough questions on death & humanity. The art, while quite literally dark, is stunning and the dialogue flows very naturally.

Spawn himself is a true anti-hero, and you truly feel for him even if you don't understand his every move. Keith David's voice fits him like a glove, and you can hear emotion pouring as he is faced with difficult decisions that he unwittingly signed up for. In addition to this, Clown provides just the right balance of being truly menacing and darkly humorous.

The series is almost perfect, but has a few flaws. Some characters that seem important are introduced but disappear without warning, and Season 2 is a bit slow compared to the others. But other than that, this is a brilliant and genius series that will have you on the edge of your seat, and is also thought provoking. Thank you Ted McFarlane.

Pass on It

Wholly unoriginal, predictable characters, and lame "shock" humor. Watch Rick & Morty, Final Space, or even the Sci Fi episodes of Family Guy instead and you'll have a better laugh.

Starts off Strong
28 July 2022
Starts off as a stylistic and strong satire but quickly dives into something I can only describes as if The Eric Andre Show was NC-17 and stretched out into feature film length. Undermines its' message with too many gimmicks.
