Star Trek: Prodigy (2021–2024)

From a 70s trekkie...

... it got me. Thought I would hate this and watched out of pure curiosity (I really wanted to hate this) and after watching the first episode, I now can't wait for the next. Love the plot, characters are good, even got me jigging about on the final "death star" sequence when the phasers kicked in. Good showing guys. Worth a go. Don't get the initial bad ratings. People just don't have enough joy in there hearts nowadays.

Locke & Key (2020–2022)

Great season 1, first half of season 2 not bad and then just complete collapse

The first season was brilliant. Connor Jessup is great. From someone who hasn't read the comics this was intriguing and engaging. I loved how new keys could always be discovered whenever and therefore progress the story further in any direction that the writer sought fit. The concepts of each key felt exciting and new and I couldn't wait to find what was next. Then came the second part of season 2. From about episode 7 onwards it was like watching buffy the vampire slayer all of a sudden. Shouting at the TV stuff. What are you doing??? It's like the writers just got bored half way through and thought, why bother. They must have got knowledge that they'd been cancelled or that the budget was cut or something. All of the clever stuff just disappeared and the heart and soul of the thing just sank six feet under. Was gutted as up to this point was completely bought in, hook line and sinker. Conclusion, lazy writing has killed this for me. Whoever is responsible for the dramatic decline in this series (you know who you are) hang your head in shame. Ruined.

It really isn't that bad

Take it for what it is. Fantasy. It's not supposed to be historically accurate. If you accept that then the calls of "wokeness" and poor music choices become less of an issue. Premise is good (not read the books but I understand some getting precious about Sir Doyle's work). Acting is ok. Characters are interesting. Mood/direction/pace is good.

There seems to be an automatic hatred towards anything that is an "American made/set in England" production. I get it. They've done themselves no favours with past inaccuracies of historical story telling regrading our great British isles just for the sake of ratings back home but this - it really isn't supposed to be taken with any seriousness. That may cause issues however with serious Holmes fans.

Bottom line. I didn't try to get offended for the sake of it and in doing so, I enjoyed the ride.
