Mean Girls (2024)
a fun rocking tale.
A super-fun rocking tale of high school miscreants (of every persuasion) somehow finding a reason to love and accept.....themselves and each other. The story is told at a reasonably brisk tempo...no scene gets too bogged down in over-dramatic manner. Bumps twists and role-reversals all weaved together by some nice musical performances and great guiding performances
from veterans Tina Fey and Jenna Fischer. The Halloween scene is quite brilliantly jarring. The story ends up being truly heart-warming. I would go see this again.
Footnote: Sorry you unhappy Tayybear....kinda guessing the movie has little do with that, however, just a guess.
The Starling (2021)
a very, very big small movie.
Good to see a movie so willing to take it's time in letting its characters and story-line unfold, without doing so aimlessly or, even worse, pretentiously.
Takes you through the challenges of loss and tragedy into something quite
unique and heartwarming.
Dom durakov (2002)
I love this beautiful film.
i love this film for all it's beauty, madness, romance, harsh gritty-reality, poetry, music, courage, and heart. i'm saddened to hear this film is no longer being distributed because it is a masterpiece which most anyone can enjoy and be enriched from...regardless of age or nationality. the story translates on numerous levels and the characters are acted with supreme respect for their condition....be that condition primarily political or one having to do mental-illness.
the actors sparkle in their depiction of the asylum-population.... we come to understand many of them for their individuality. what we see is how quirks can be gifts and fantasies are what keeps us going sometimes. love is symbolized as a train and war arrives when the train doesn't. war is between enemies but enemies are not always what they seem.
this movie danced across my eyes and now it dances in my consciousness. i'm in search of copies of this to share with my friends and family!!!
Domino (2005)
what the doctor ordered!!!
this is a fast, bawdy film with no pretenses towards much else....but that certainly doesn't mean it lacks a BRAIN. nor does it lack a heart. the narrative might feel a bit messy and some of the editing gets a bit frantic but the mayhem slows down often enough to peer into our characters....banded together by what is inevitably the heart of the story. Our bounty-hunter team are quite believable including knightley's domino harvey who manages to not be overshadowed by mickey rourke's thunderous presence. perhaps she could've been made LESS SEXY but surely that would've taken away from one of our reasons to watch the movie....or certainly ONE of my reasons.
underneath all this fury and action lies a message of spirit and humanism and one that's not hard to find, either.
i feel sorry for the guy who NOW can't watch an episode of pirates of the caribbean because all he can see is knightley being DOMINO....i mean REALLY.
