Hellraiser (2022)
Had such high hopes after Prey.
Prey was in no way perfect but Hulu managed to do what major production companies failed to do for decades: make a good franchise film. When i read that the creator himself Clive Barker was going to be a producer i had high expectations. Halfway through this film i gave up mentally even though i stuck with it to the end. It's not an awful film. I felt like i was watching an early 2000's production like 13 Ghosts or something. I feel bad for writing this review because i LOVE Clive Barker and the first two Hellraiser films plus the Epic Comics run are some of my favorite horror related lore ever made. A little advice moving forward. Try not to rely on Pinhead as the main Cenobite. I liked that they took a different approach rather than cast Doug Bradley again (love you Doug) but try something new. Like Abigor or Face from the comics. There's so much potential. But sadly squandered this time around.
Swimming with Sharks (2022)
Pretty strong show until...
My only issue with this show is that towards the end it felt very rushed. Like the script called for 8 episodes but they had to wrap everything up by 6. They would have done a great service fleshing out the main characters background a little more. Up until then i was fully engrossed and i would suggest checking this out. It's not too time consuming as there are only 6 half hour episodes. I watched them all in one sitting. The story had a great build up and the characters were well written/acted. Donald Sutherland was especially great. He always delivers in every role he plays. I'm not really sure where the story could go with a season 2 but I'm here for it.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
It all started with Endgame.
Avengers: Endgame and 95% of what's come after has been mediocre to outright terrible. Wandavision was a slow burn with little payoff. I forced myself to sit through it to see what happens and i was honestly bored to death. Loki and Falcon were entertaining enough and I'm glad i watched them. Hawkeye was one of the WORST shows i have ever seen in my adult life. I feel sorry for Jeremy Renner having anything to do with that show. I mean that man won so many awards for The Hurt Locker what a waste of his acting talent and a slap in the face to any Hawkeye fan. Probably contractually obligated to make that mess who knows. Moon Knight was better than i expected it to be but without flaws for sure. I mean the part where Layla tagged along with the small and very intimate group of bad guys WITHOUT EVEN BEING RECOGNIZED was absurd and my eyes almost rolled right out of my head. I had little hope for Ms. Marvel but surprisingly it started out very strong. Once they arrived in India though the entire show became a hot mess. Missed opportunity with that one. And now we're at She Hulk. Oh my. Why is Disney/Marvel doing this? Are there really legitimate fans of these shows out there? I've rewatched Winter Soldier and Infinity War three dozen times because they are that entertaining. I haven't rewatched a single second of ANY of these Disney+ shows. If i did it would easily be Moon Knight and Falcon the rest are forgettable filler. As a massive Daredevil fan who grew up reading the comics for decades i have real and legitimate fears that they are going to completely ruin that character. The Kingpin in Hawkeye was nonsensical so i have little hope they will be able to pull off Daredevil. I'll forever be grateful for the Netflix Marvel shows. They are god tier compared to what Disney+ has been puking out. At least the Marvel movies are still good. Multiverse of Madness was awesome (haven't seen the new Thor yet but i haven't heard good things). In the end the saddest part of all this is everyone involved in these projects just deflecting and saying the bad reviews are for *this or *that reason instead of sucking it up and admitting they made a terrible show. I mean how hard is it to write a good show when you have literal DECADES up DECADES of source material? Look at how well The Sandman has done. Why? Because it's just as good as the comics. Close to flawless i would say. I will ALWAYS be a Marvel fan but i am currently on the fence about anything coming from Marvel Studios. Hopefully this review actually gets published I've heard they are censoring the backlash this show has received.
As We See It (2022)
One of the best shows of all time.
The title says it all i can't praise this enough. I'm already on my third viewing and i found this show less than a week ago. Every actor in this deserves an award especially Sue Ann Pien/Violet. If this doesn't get another season i will be devastated. Kudos to every single person involved in making this, television at it's finest.
The Sandman (2022)
Been waiting decades for this.
When i was younger there were two comics i came back to frequently, Neil Gaiman's The Sandman and Alan Moore's Swamp Thing. I had always dreamed of these being made into a movie or television series. Well here we are it's finally happened. And it does not disappoint. This series is amazing on every level. If Netflix wants another hit get Alan Moore on board to helm a Swamp Thing series. I'm positive it would be equally successful.
Crimes of the Future (2022)
Another Cronenberg masterpiece!
If you're a fan of David Cronenberg's filmography don't believe all of the negative reviews. This movie easily rivals any of Cronenberg's other work. It's a phenomenal film on all fronts. Excellent acting, set design, story line and of course Howard Shore knocked it out of the park with another amazing film score. From the second the film started i was hooked. I always take a cigarette break when watching movies as I'm antsy but i sat glued to the screen from beginning to end. I can't image anyone being a fan of Videodrome, Existenz or Dead Ringers and NOT liking this movie. My rating is a 10 and i don't see anything changing that.
Skins (2007)
Amazing series, BUT...
I thoroughly enjoyed this series. That is until season 3 started. I didn't even make it through the first episode. They dropped all of the characters that i came to love and from what i briefly saw Effy was the only character they kept in the show. A massive disappointment. I gave it a 10 because of the first two seasons (or first series as it's called in the U. K.). If you like a good teen drama/comedy give it a chance. Also features multiple actors from Game of Thrones which was surprising.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Can't believe i slept on this one!!!
So after Avengers: Endgame (which i personally thought was one of the worst MCU movies) and the terrible Disney+ shows i started to not care about Marvel movies. This is where my review titles comes in. I wish i had seen this sooner. I was thoroughly entertained the entire time and this ranks among my favorite MCU movies to date. I didn't plan on seeing the new Thor movie in the theater but after watching this i just bought tickets. I really hope Disney can turn it around with their Disney+ shows going forward (Ms. Marvel and She Hulk look terrible).
The Boys (2019)
This show keeps getting better.
With every episode, especially Season 3, i find myself on the edge of my seat. I can't wait to see what happens next. Kudos to everyone involved. It's refreshing after watching all the Disney drivel that's been coming out.
That '80s Show (2002)
What did reviewers watch?
I made an IMDB account just to ask that question. They certainly must not have watched the show i did. This is one of my favorite comedy shows of all time. Every character is unique in their own way and most importantly likable. How can one watch this and not walk away thinking Eddie Shin is one of the funniest people alive? I just don't get it. I've watched this lone season dozens of times and it never gets old. Anyways, rest in piece Silverpants. You will be missed...
