Bones: The Sin in the Sisterhood (2011)
If I had a nickel
Hi Bones Booth! Just had to comment on this first- If I had a nickel for every time Brennen accidentally had sexual gestures/undertones in an investigation scene with Wendell, I'd have two nickels. It isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. They also shouldn't have jurisdiction for this case, but just kinda do for some reason. The case itself isn't my favorite, but it is memorable because of the polygamy novelty.
Good episode overall. I appreciated the cute Hodgela moment in the lab. I like any Cam heavy episode because she's such an interesting character who too often falls into the background. We've had a lot of Bones and Booth development this season and it's great that Cam gets her moment too.
Bones: The Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2009)
Good Intentions, Poor Execution
The opening is very entertaining, and I love that they're trying to make fun of the ridiculous plasticness of suburbia. But this case is so convoluted! Everyone is sleeping with everyone, everyone is lying, they're mad over a stupid windmill, and the wrap up comes out of nowhere. The 'all three of them did it' was a hunch at best, and they lucked out with the bike crew admitting it. Why would you admit it? And why would you throw the body in a fire pit that your entire neighborhood was going to use later?
I also find the wrap up of Arastoo's accent a bit odd. I'm not muslim myself but something about having the 'he likes basketball just like us!' at the end of the episode doesn't feels right.
Bones: The Witch in the Wardrobe (2010)
Hot Mess, But Fun
It will never cease to amaze me how much product placement is tied into the plot of this show. The catalyst for Angela and Hodgins of them going to jail and getting married is Hodgins wanting to show off the Toyota's lane warning system. I find their wedding really adorable and very Angela.
It feels like a lazy writing choice to have Sweets conveniently have a background with witches, especially when he had conveniently had a background in the circus last season. As unrealistic as their portrayal of historical and current witches was, the ridiculousness of 'high on flour ritualistic rival witch murder' makes up for it.
Bones: The Doctor in the Den (2009)
Great Cam Moments
The case wasn't the greatest, and the whole 'Angela is done with intimacy' took up too much of the episode for my taste, but I love the focus on Cam. She's been fairly 2-d at this point (either boss cam or friend cam), but now we see into her past, and I love that her and Michelle didn't start on the right foot. Both their reactions to the situation feel so human and vulnerable.
Bones: The Double Death of the Dearly Departed (2009)
Best product placement of all time
Brennen and cam:
'hey i think this guys been murdered'
'oh no! We need to steal his body and bring it back to the lab to confirm.'
'don't worry! Angela's brand new amazing Toyota with great gas mileage has enough room for this corpse'
'awesome'
The rest of the episode coud've been absolute garbage but i still would've given it 10/10 for that 30 seconds.
Bones: The Girl in the Mask (2009)
Nonbinary people exist
The one thing I do appreciate is how Brennen never really regards Dr. Tanaka's gender and shows them consistent respect. But Cam, Hodgins, and Angela ogling their guest and being overly invested in finding out if they're a 'man or woman' (as if they have a right to know that) is so disrespectful and hard to watch. Sweets did mention the androgynous subculture that Tanaka belonged to, which I can see as him saying, 'hey, not identifying as a gender is A Thing', but then he gets oddly curious too and it takes it all back.
Bones: The End in the Beginning (2009)
Besties it's called an AU
This is easily in my top 5 episodes of Bones. I know some people aren't super huge fans of the whole 'Booth's coma' thing, but it's so fun! Zack makes a cameo, Bones and Booth are technically together, Sweets sings in a fedora, and Wendell is an overly loyal bouncer (insert heart eyes here). It's nice to see everyones faces on screen under different circumstances.
Bones: The Passenger in the Oven (2008)
It's fun okay?!
"there's no way they can solve a murder on an airplane in 4 hours!' Yeah and?
Is this episode realistic? Absolutely not. Is it campy and fun? Frick yeah.
Bones: The Perfect Pieces in the Purple Pond (2008)
Why is Wendall fictional
I love this episode. The way Hodgins is a complete mess and is still grappling with the way his life has turned upside down makes him seem so human. And despite everything with Zack, everyone celebrating seeing him again feels so realistic. The Jeffersonian's love for Zack didn't burn out, and they certainly didn't forget him. This episode is so layered with emotions and a pretty interesting case.
We also meet Wendell, the best Squintern, who makes my incredibly irritated that the men his age I see at school are the type of men who think that Impractical Jokers is peak comedy.
